Celebrating Harvest We all enjoyed the sight of this wonderful Harvest display in the Dining Room, created by Mrs Jo Robinson, one of our catering team.

Dear Parents This has been a remarkably busy and successful first half-term. This week we celebrated a wonderful Harvest Mass and I am very grateful to all those who made some generous donations. Yesterday we had great fun watching all the senior department pupils entertain us for Action Day. Of course, this is always one of our principal fund-raising activities for charity too. Looking further ahead, please note that the CPA will be hosting a special Ball on Saturday 17th March 2018 to celebrate 50 years of Cranmore. I wish you and your family a most enjoyable break. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

Ghana Appeal Week: Monday 6th - Friday 10th November Through a connection known to myself (a Cranmore mum), the Second Hand Shop has recently donated a large amount of obsolete and old Cranmore uniform which included blazers, shorts, shirts, PE kits, rugby kits and shoes, to help improve the lives of children in Ghana. All donations will be handed out personally and distributed to local children who live in the villages and to local schools in Ghana. Since we now have this link to Ghana, wouldn’t it be wonderful to involve all parents at Cranmore, in helping support this fabulous project? So, with half-term nearly upon us, this is a great time to have a good sort out of your child’s wardrobe and toy box and to please donate any unwanted items to the Ghana Appeal. The container to ship all donations over to Ghana costs £1,500. They are desperate to achieve this before Christmas but obviously need to have the necessary funds in place to do so. If you could help to make this happen, any donations (large or small) would be gratefully received. Please place cash or cheques (made payable to the C.P.A.) in an envelope marked ‘Ghana Appeal’ and pop it into the CPA box outside main reception. Alternatively, all donations of clean, unwanted clothes or toys in good, working condition are to be left in the plastic boxes provided in the main car park, under the bridge stairs during the first week back at school - MONDAY 6th-FRIDAY 10th NOVEMBER. All your goods and donations will make such a difference to children’s lives and they will be so gratefully received. Many thanks in advance for your support! Louise Broadbelt

Dear Parents, The Junior Department were thrilled to welcome Grandparents to a special Grandparents’ Assembly last Friday. The auditorium was full to capacity as the children sang, showed portraits of their grandparents, recited poems and led prayers and reflections. Thank you to all grandparents for making such an effort to come; it was lovely to have you. Thank you for your generosity in the gifts you donated for Harvest this week. Along with the children’s art work, there was a wonderful Harvest display in the Auditorium where the whole school gathered for Harvest Mass. A team of parent helpers, Mrs Harney and children from Form 1 distributed the gifts to Lime Grove, Cherry Trees and Shelters for the Homeless, where they were gratefully received. As this half term comes to an end, I would like thank you for your support and wish you and your families an enjoyable half term holiday. Kind regards Mrs Fiona Nicholson Head of the Junior Department

We had a wonderful time on Friday when the children invited their grandparents in to see Bright Stars. The children showed them art-work on the walls and loved talking to them about all the things they like to do here. They had baked flapjacks the previous day with Mrs Poulter and enjoyed sharing them as a special mid-morning treat. Everyone gathered in our PreNursery room where the children sang our Harvest song ‘Big Red Combine Harvester’ as well as several traditional nursery rhymes. Thank you to all the grandparents, some of whom travelled long distances to be here. We loved meeting you! Thank you also to everyone who has contributed biscuits, chocolates, sweets and toiletries for Harvest-time. We are sure the elderly residents of Lime Grove Care Home will be very grateful.

What it takes to be a Top Team As reported last week, the U12 and U14 Ski teams raced at the Nationals in Norwich and secured a silver at U12 and bronze at U14. They are shown here with their cups and medals, and we can also see how much hard work parents put in behind the scenes, seen here helping to prepare skis before the Finals.

The Rowing Club goes West! The rowing squad headed west to Monkton Bluefriars Head of the River race near Bath last Saturday. We entered the mixed J13 quadruple sculls event with a composite Arjun Kang, Jett Dyason, Ava-Louise Christensen and Manasa Arun coxed by Marcus Muir, the J12 event with Jai Arun, Olivier Hinds, Jake Crehan Mills and Jake Armitage coxed by Josh Little and the J11 event with Michael Goncharuk, Alex Mather, George Christensen, and James Langton coxed by Arjun Kang. The course was an 1100 metres upstream, followed by the same distance downstream on the river Avon, which was not only unfamiliar to our squad but also much narrower than the Thames. In perfect conditions all the crews rowed well and benefited from the opportunity to race in a new venue. I was particularly impressed by the maturity the crews showed in preparing their boats for the race, paying attention to the crew briefing and then focusing on their sculling during the race. We also very much appreciated all the support and help parents gave us to make it a memorable day. Mr B Martin

On Tuesday the 3rd Form visited Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and had a very exciting trip which included seeing Henry VIII’s famous warship, the Mary Rose.

3rd Form Visit to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard On Tuesday 17th October, the 3rd Form visited Portsmouth Historic Dockyard for a fascinating and fun-filled day. We began with an absorbing exploration of the wreck of the Mary Rose, the only 16th century warship on display anywhere in the world. It was incredible to learn that children as young as ten were taken to sea! After lunch, we boarded HMS Victory, arguably the Royal Navy’s most famous ship, and had the opportunity to see what life must have been like for a sailor during Georgian times. We also got to see where Nelson fell during the Battle of Trafalgar. Finally we moved on to the Action Stations attraction and had a wonderful time using the climbing wall and various simulators. The Third Form would like to thank all of the staff and parent helpers involved. Mr T Heaver
