Dear Parents This edition has some wonderful photos of children who have been on a variety of educational visits. We must congratulate our footballers who performed so well last Saturday to retain the Henkes Shield for the sixth consecutive year. As ever, Cranmore Live was a superb concert last night and we were delighted to welcome Southern Pro Musica for their first visit to Cranmore. The standard of music was truly inspirational for our pupils of all ages. Please note that this edition contains an important message from the school shop which I would encourage you to read. Next week is National Anti-Bullying week with the theme of “Power for Good. Cranmore, like all leading educational establishments, will incorporate aspects of this important topic into our programme. Finally, we hope that there will be good weather tomorrow evening when the CPA host their traditional Firework Party, it is always a marvellous occasion. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

The Lower Prep children went to RHS Wisley Garden for their first school trip. The children set off with their backpacks and excitedly climbed aboard the coach. There was a wonderful buzz of excitement travelling to and from Wisley. The children visited the Clore Learning Centre and took part in a hands-on workshop ‘Stop! Look and Listen’, observing seasonal changes and discovering the world around them. They enjoyed making autumn crowns and planting chard seeds. The children are looking forward to watching their seeds grow in class. The children thoroughly enjoyed their day out and enthusiastically embraced the rain, splashing in the puddles! A great day was had by all! Miss Jefford Assistant Head of the Junior Department

Middle Prep Visit Hampton Court Last week, Middle Prep went on a fantastic trip to Hampton Court Palace. The sun was shining and the children were able to explore the Great Kitchen, Henry VIII’s Apartments, the Chapel Royal, the glorious gardens and the Great Hall. They were also able to discover the uses of some Tudor artefacts and met a real life Tudor lady who spoke to them about the Tudor way of life. They enjoyed participating in a traditional Tudor dance called Horses Brawl. It was a memorable trip! Miss Creal

Form One trip to Winchester Science Centre Following a productive half term’s work on the topic of Forces, Form One set off to the Winchester Science Centre to test their knowledge on the various exhibits. The first half of the morning was spent pushing, pulling, tweaking and turning all kinds of knobs, levers and handles. The children used fans to direct sailing boats, they felt the resistance of water in a rowing machine and discovered how pulleys can make identical weights seem lighter. They were also able to experiment with magnetic fields by placing magnets in different patterns.
The day was not just about forces, however, and the highlight of the morning was the presentation in the Planetarium where the children were treated to an incredible show with breath-taking representations of the earth, the planets in our solar system, our sun and the constellations. The children were still buzzing from the excitement of the Planetarium show long after it finished and it was the topic of many a conversation as they ate their delicious packed lunches. After lunch there was an opportunity for the children to see the exhibits they had not yet visited. When it was time to leave the teachers found it hard to drag some children away because they were enjoying themselves so much! The coach whisked the pupils back to Cranmore in record time and the children were soon telling their parents what a fabulous day it had been. As always the children’s behaviour on the trip was exemplary and every pupil was a credit to Cranmore School. The Form One Team

34th Annual Henkes Shield Pitches were marked on the beautiful Henderson playing fields, staff from both schools had their teams prepped and ready and at 9.30pm on Saturday 5th November, the whistle blew for kick off. Thankfully, the weather was kind and the football from both schools was wonderful. In all there were 8 fixtures on 8 pitches with over 130 pupils playing competitively, supported by hundreds of parents. A great occasion! Cranmore retained the Henkes Shield for the 6th occasion in a row, by winning 6-2 on the day. Results are as follows: U9A won 3:1 U9B won 2:1 U10A lost 1:2 U10B won 8-2 U11A won 2:1 U11B won 7:2 2nd XI won 3:2 1st XI lost 1:2 Overall, records show that Rokeby lead 17-15, and we look forward to the return fixture at Rokeby Sports Ground next year. A huge thanks to our grounds and catering staff, and indeed the parents, for their continued support and care for Cranmore Sport.

Important message from Cranmore 2nd Hand Shop
FREE ski wear and other items Friday 11th November and Friday 18th November Due to our continued success, we are filled to capacity and have had our biennial clear out. A lot of our shoe mountain has been donated to a local shoe bank and we plan on taking more non-Cranmore items to the charity shop in the next few weeks. Our ‘sale rail’ has now become even better value for money with all items on it now free! The rail is full of ski wear and warm jackets and even a few items of current Cranmore uniform, (all donated and/or brought into the shop over two years ago) Therefore, for TWO WEEKS ONLY, Friday 11th November and Friday 18th November, we will be putting this rail out again, yes, really…FOR FREE! Don’t miss it! Can you help us? We also need your support…………..does anyone have a spare bookcase or STURDY shoe rail? Our frequent visitors will be aware that we had a major equipment malfunction and our shoe rails have collapsed. As mentioned, many of the unwanted shoes have been donated already but we still need somewhere for the rest. If anyone has a spare bookshelf and can bring it to us in the shop, we would be very grateful. I can make myself available to open the shop at a convenient time, just call me and we can arrange it. Can I just emphasize though, it does need to be sturdy. Obviously shoes can weigh a lot and we also get a lot of young siblings in the shop so we have to make sure its strong enough not to topple over easily when loaded. We currently have one shelf unit made from solid pine which works well but it’s just not big enough. We would be very grateful. Please call Lorraine on 07711 261 386. Thanks. Information The Second Hand Uniform Shop is in the hut next to the new section of the car park. We open every Friday morning in term time and we are run and managed by a small but incredibly friendly team of fellow Cranmore mums. All profit goes directly to the CPA and is put back into the school for the benefit of our children. Further details about how to sell your items are available on the CPA section of the website. Our opening times are 8-9am every Friday morning during term time. I am always available on my mobile, or via email, to assist however necessary. Many thanks to you all for your support.
