Dear Parents I wish to thank everyone who helped to run the Fireworks Party last Saturday which was a great success despite the inclement weather. There was great excitement on the Henderson Fields this week when the All Blacks arrived to train here in advance of their match against England this weekend. I should state that it was the Ladies’ Team, often called the Black Ferns, whose high standard of rugby has ensured they have won four consecutive World Cups. I must advise you that one of our nursing team, Mrs Lyn Linington, who has been absent through ill-health this term has decided to retire with immediate effect. She has served Cranmore well over many years and we wish her a happy retirement. I am delighted that Mrs Karen Dennis has joined us this week as her replacement. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

Upper Prep Trip to Windsor Castle The Upper Prep children had a fantastic day at Windsor Castle learning all about the life of a knight, from becoming a Page at the age of just seven, to the moment of passing the Code of Chivalry at twenty one. The Royal Standard was flying, meaning Her Majesty was in the castle and we all kept a keen eye to see if we could see her! We are very grateful to Mrs Sanders for organising such an interesting and involving visit, and thank Mrs Birtchnell and Mrs Downing who accompanied us too. Mr Wildbur

Cranmore Live
It is always wonderful to hear professional musicians play at Cranmore and Southern Pro Musica gave a truly stunning performance at this year’s Cranmore Live. Tim Callaghan (violin) led an afternoon workshop with the top musicians from our Senior Orchestra and these children opened the evening concert, performing ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ by Handel, followed by their workshop piece ‘The Hunt’. We then enjoyed the playing of Southern Pro Musica. Amongst other orchestral classics, they performed ‘The Four Seasons’ by Vivaldi, with soloist Sophie Langdon playing the lead violin part. It was a privilege to hear somebody, with such obvious talent, play this electrifying piece. I must congratulate all the children who took part in the workshop, but in particular, those young members of the audience who sat quietly and listened so carefully throughout.

Black Ferns Train at Cranmore School This week, Cranmore was delighted to host the New Zealand Black Ferns who were preparing for their game against England Women’s rugby team on Saturday evening at The Twickenham Stoop. Based in Surrey Sports Park, The Black Ferns needed a new location for training on short notice and the Cranmore community welcomed the team and their coaches with open arms. Training on the main 1st XV pitch on the beautiful Henderson playing fields at Cranmore, the team trained for 2 hours, surrounded by Cranmore pupils. We wish them well on their travels and indeed on the rugby field. Mr O’Brien Director of Sport

Wanted! 5th & 6th Formers with a taste for excitement on the high seas!
After the success of last year’s voyages, Mr Martin is looking for new crews to join the Tall Ships Global Challengers for a 2 night voyage from Portsmouth on the 2325 June. We will sail around the Solent and stay overnight in Cowes. Each yacht has a crew of 12. One boat is reserved for our 5th & 6th form students only and the other will be a ‘lads & dads’ crew of 6 dads and 6 boys. Each crew will be responsible for everything on board from setting the sails, taking the helm, filling in the log book and even preparing meals. Berths on last year’s voyage filled so quickly we had to book a second trip, so make sure you do not miss out. The fully inclusive cost is £210. Full details are available from Mr Martin or reception. 6th Formers who wish to attend the disco on Friday 23rd June will be able to join us on the Saturday morning.
