4th MAY 2021

Message from the Headmaster Dear Parents,

Our Nursery children spent time investigating the changes occurring in spring and the many interesting facts about insect lifecycles.

This week, pupils have appreciated getting together to perform in various choirs and ensembles in anticipation of performing before the end of the academic year. Our flute ensemble and orchestra have been busy rehearsing and the individual choirs in each year group were preparing for their year group summer serenades after half term.

As ever, the pupils have been extremely active with swimming, athletics, tennis and cricket. I would especially like to congratulate pupils from our school who compete with the Effingham Trust Equestrian Team. In the first competitive event since lockdown, the NSEA Eventers Challenge at Coombelands, our team finished in first place; well done to all those involved.

It was lovely to see our Year 2 pupils researching online what life was like during World War Two when rationing was in place.

Mr Everitt

Music News– Cranmore orchestra, choirs and ensembles performing together again! Mr Harris and Mrs Thornton, Lower Prep Music Coordinator, are delighted to have the Cranmore orchestra, choirs and ensembles back performing together this term. The pupils are looking forward to taking part in assemblies and events before the end of term! Mr Harris, Director of Music

Year 2 demonstrate navigation and search engine skills on iPads 2JC loved using the iPads today in class to find out more about ‘rationing’ during World War II. They demonstrated excellent navigation skills, typing and using different search engines. Mrs Carpenter, Year 2 Teacher

Enter an exciting Stamp Design Competition! Royal Mail are running a national competition to create a set of 8 stamps designed by children to reflect the efforts by our frontline ‘heroes’ during the coronavirus pandemic. Think about the important people who have kept our country going, such as NHS staff, teachers and supermarket workers. Maybe you think Sir Captain Tom Moore or Marcus Rashford have made the biggest contribution - or the vaccine scientists or the refuse collectors? Or perhaps you think your parents have been the greatest heroes! All information about your design is included on the entry form. Please ensure all final designs are handed in to Mrs Sanders by Monday 24th May. I look forward to seeing your fabulous designs! Mrs Sanders, Art Teacher

Cranmore Nursery study caterpillars and enjoy music lessons! This week in Nursery the children have been learning all about the life cycle of the butterfly and have been watching our very own caterpillars growing day by day. They have listened to the story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and explored mixed media to create their own caterpillars. Mrs Thornton visited the Nursery and introduced the children to some new songs. They really enjoyed moving the scarfs to the rhythm of the music and participating in the ‘Peek a boo’ game. The Nursery garden cherry blossom trees had their petals blown all over the garden. The children loved using the grabbers to fill their wheelbarrows up with the blossoms. We made kites to fly in the wind and had fun with the parachute! The Nursery cars had a pit stop at our garage for a well-deserved clean! Ms Luke, Head of Nursery

Cranmore Sport– Cricket fixtures Cranmore pupils are delighted to be playing local schools again in fixtures throughout the week. The photographs here show Year 6 cricket vs Danes Hill and Year 4 cricket vs Rokeby. There is a great buzz on the cricket square and we have been fortunate with the weather this week! Mr Down, Head of Cricket

A Message from our Chaplain A reading from the Gospel of John “I am the true vine, and My Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in Me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. The Gospel of the Lord

Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ Jesus is the True Vine

In the reading this week we hear how Jesus is the ‘True Vine’. What do you think He is trying to teach us? As we go through life it is important to bear good fruit to do simple acts of kindness to help others. But how do we get the strength to do this? Well, Jesus of course is our strength. In ourselves we can do nothing, but with the help of the Holy Spirit we can do great things.
