Cranmore Chronicle 10th May 2019 Editor: Mrs S Watkinson

Dear Parents We have enjoyed some very favourable weather which has allowed our cricket programme to get under way. Let’s hope it continues over the weekend. Today we are hosting another Open Morning which will be an ideal opportunity for prospective parents to learn all about Cranmore. As ever, I am grateful to our senior pupils who will be their guides for the tour. I am looking forward to seeing many of you on Tuesday evening at 7.30 pm when we shall be hosting our Forum to explain more about our exciting new partnership with St Teresa’s School. Yours sincerely Michael Connolly

Seniors

On Wednesday 8th May, the Senior Department took part in workshops on Resilience. Our pupils were given examples of challenges which young people can face and techniques to use to learn how to cope with them.

The 2nd Form are developing their drawing skills and knowledge of pencils. They were given an image of a piece of artwork (B and R Smith) and asked who created it. They were then asked to draw what they believed the artist/s looked like. Finally, they were given a photograph of the artist Patrick Brill and, after looking very carefully for clues in the image, came to the realisation that he was actually the artist.

Preparations are underway in the Art Room for the props and scenery for our summer production, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, Here is one of the cast holding a delicious candy floss.

The Fifth and Sixth Form were held 'rapt' for an afternoon by the Splats Theatre Company and their 3-handed version of Macbeth - it had to be seen to be believed!

Members of C# had a fantastic afternoon of singing in the Charterhouse Chapel on Tuesday 7th May. They performed spirituals from John Rutter’s ‘Feel the Spirit’ and also items from Fauré’s ‘Requiem’. It was a fantastic experience and all pupils sang brilliantly.

Sports Focus There was a variety of sport taking place over the last week including cricket, tennis and golf. The U8s and U10s cricket teams went unbeaten across six matches as part of the PT Trophy. This meant that the overall result of the annual Trophy was a draw. Also against Rokeby, our 1st XI had a close win on Wednesday which was then backed up two days later with a convincing win in the Surrey Cup against St. Andrews, Woking. Cranmore competed in the Independent School Tennis Challenge with two boys selected for each category. The U9s came second with the U10s and U13s picking up bronze. On Tuesday, six players represented Cranmore U13s both at doubles and singles against Lanesborough. The tennis on display was excellent and Cranmore managed to win the fixture without dropping a set.

Finally, members of the golf squad had a great afternoon playing in an away fixture against Windlesham. Two teams of four representing both the U11s and U13s played some great golf and gained valuable match play experience.
