HOUSE CHARITY DAY
BOARDING NEWS As another wonderful year of boarding comes to a close, the girls were delighted to share in some lively celebrations to mark the end of their St Teresa’s boarding experience for many of our lovely international students. The weekend started on a high note with a fun filled trip to Airhop in Guildford, before setting out on one of the final bus trips to Woking where the girls did their vocal warm-ups before a fantastic evening performance watching “Thank Abba For The Music” a tribute show to the iconic pop sensation Abba. To round off a lovely weekend we set out to The Green Escape in Dorking, a cabin style campout in the picturesque Surrey countryside. Complete with a zipline, hammocks and a bonfire the girls had a fun-filled evening with wood-fired pizzas and s’mores. The highlight of the evening included a Spanish and Mexican inspired celebration with lots of singing and dancing. We ended the evening huddled around the campfire where the girls shared their fondest memories of their time at St T’s. Lots of giggles were had by all and some beautiful memories were made that will last a lifetime! Safe to say a tradition has begun! The staff of St Teresa’s Boarding want to express their gratitude to each of our boarders this year, it has been a pleasure to watch each of the girls blossom into beautiful young women. While we will miss the girls who are leaving us dearly, we are so extremely proud of them and can’t wait to see the bright future that lies ahead. We also can’t wait to welcome back our boarders returning next year, along with some new faces. Mrs Gautier, Mrs Wragg, Miss Hill, Miss Charlotte and Miss Lucy Mrs Zoe Wragg Deputy Head of Boarding

YEAR 10 TRIP TO BOUGH BEACH RESERVOIR TRIP Last week Year 10 went to the Bough Beach Reservoir and Treatment works, Esme and Freya have written about the trip below…. During our trip to Bough Beach this week, we had a great time learning new things and finding out ways to become more sustainable in our day to day lives. The trip was thoroughly educational, filled with many interesting activities for us all to participate in. Firstly, we had a tour of the site and were informed about the different stages of the water treatment and how they operate. We also went into the blue zone where there were activities about water usage. For example, we had to choose a household appliance and spin a dial until it stopped at a designated number on the screen. This number represented how many times the appliance could be filled with 100 litres of water. We also put our analytical skills to the test by testing how much chlorine was in different samples of water. Our experience taught us how to save water at home and opened our eyes to the consequences of using too much. We feel that this experience has greatly enhanced our knowledge for our Chemistry GCSE!
YEAR 9 LIQUID LEISURE TRIP The whole of Year 9 went to Liquid Leisure on Wednesday 6th July where the students took part in lots of activities in the water park that included Aqua High Ropes and Ninja Warrior. The students had a fabulous time, especially when they managed to push Mr Melvin and Miss Elliott into the lake!

From there we can visit Mount Etna, plus have a boat trip and explore the archaeological sites at Syracuse and experience the amazing history of the area. This Week You must have been on another planet if, over the past few weeks, you haven’t heard the strains of Kate Bush’s 1985 hit ‘Running Up That Hill’ being played endlessly. It has, of course become fantastically popular as the theme that accompanies Max Mayfield as she confronts Vecna who it seems, is coming to get her. In a critical climax of their conflict, Max is shown with her arms outstretched, hanging in the air in a pose deliberately reminiscent of Christ’s great sacrifice on the cross, only to defeat Vecna, for now at least, as the strains of Kate Bush’s hit reverberate both in this world and that peculiar subversion of our world, the Upside Down. Perhaps there is more to this musical accompaniment than first meets the eye. Kate Bush, raised as a Catholic, wrote her song as an expression of her desire to see the world from the eyes of God, ‘If I only could, I’d do a deal with God and get him to swap our places.’ The choice of this song is certainly deliberate as the erstwhile heroes strive to defeat the dark forces that threaten the world. Perhaps the series, with all its clichés, is actually tapping into our deep longing to turn the terrors of our world upside down, not so much to swap with God, but rather to recognise that what He offers is a world turned back to how it was every meant to be.
I’m very ugly So don’t try to convince me that I am a very beautiful person Because at the end of the day I hate myself in every single way And I’m not going to lie to myself by saying There is beauty inside of me that matters So rest assured I will remind myself That I am a worthless, terrible person And nothing you say will make me believe I still deserve love Because no matter what
To illustrate the point, in our closing I am not good enough to be loved Liturgy today, we read the wonderful And I am in no position to believe that poem, ’Pretty Ugly’ and asked the question, ’Which way round should we read it?’ As Beauty does exist within me we begin our Summer break, we recognise Because whenever I look in the mirror and I always think that the way God sees things, in the case Am I as ugly as people say of this poem at least, is to read it upside down, which is, of course, the right way (Now read bottom up to see a God’s-eye view!) round!
