CAREERS NEWS

To conclude our focus on National Careers Week and in support of International Women's Day (14th March) we are delighted to welcome Laura Coryton, MBE to speak to the whole school on Monday 10th March. It promises to be a thought provoking and inspiring morning. We look forward to seeing you there.

Laura Coryton MBE is a feminist campaigner, author and founder of the social enterprise 'Sex Ed Matters'. She led the successful UK petition to end tampon tax, which gained over 300,000 signatures and support from major political figures including President Obama. Together, they successfully lobbied the government into establishing the Tampon Tax Fund and almost £100m was donated to female-focused charities, and to ending the sexist tax in 2021.

BOARDING

On Monday, our sports activity night, the boarders played some rounds of bench ball which involved trying different variations of the game.

Tuesday was spent writing down glimmers of joy, thoughts or things that give them a dash of hope when their days aren't the brightest. Some stand outs were ‘cat videos’ and ‘dad jokes’.

During the weekend the boarders went to visit Windsor Castle. They were amazed by the colours and

architectural features of the famous building as well as the sheer size of it. Some of the boarders lit candles in St George’s chapel for their families, taking a moment to think of those most special to them. The boarders are looking forward to the upcoming Lunar New Year activities and we look forward to sharing with you what they get up to.

TOP OF THE BENCH COMPTITION

Last week, four pupils represented our school in a Chemistry competition organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry:

• Year 9: Sanjana S and Grace C

• Year 10: Madison B

• Year 11: Julia L

The event challenged participants with practical tasks, assessing their accuracy and observational skills, alongside multiple choice questions. St Teresa's proudly secured second place out of six local schools.

Madison B reflected: "The competition was exceptionally challenging, however, it provided us with an opportunity to extend our knowledge and explore chemistry on a deeper level. Dunottar School, which hosted the competition, was very welcoming and contributed to a positive experience.”

FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD!

Following Tuesday’s parent seminar, Isa Robinson delivered an informative PSHE discussion on food nutrition and relationships with food!

MAKING MUSSELS

We recently took part in an exciting initiative designed to inspire children to try new foods and develop their cooking skills using seafood. As part of the activity, we were sent a batch of fresh mussels for the pupils to cook with.

The girls had a fantastic time learning how to sort through the shellfish, scrub them clean, and prepare three delicious sauces: a classic tomato, a creamy option, and a vibrant green Thai curry.

At break time, all the pupils were invited to taste the dishes, turning the session into a fun and delicious learning experience!

A Reading from the Gospel of John

On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her,“Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants,“Do whatever he tells you.”

Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants,“Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And he said to them,“Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it.

Reflection

The turning of water into wine is a the first miracle mentioned in St John’s Gospel. It is a moment that foretells of the Eucharist. The changing of the ordinary into the extraordinary. When the Divine enters into our world everything is changed. As we go through this week let us be open to God’s Spirit that is all around us. And let us not be afraid to bring all our problems, what ever they are to the one who can transform.
