SIXTH FORM NEWS
BOARDING NEWS On the weekend the boarders went to Dorking to see the movie ‘Wonka’. The movie was filled with comedy and entertainment. The girls enjoyed it thoroughly. There was singing and dancing which was exciting and brought a fulfilling aspect to the movie. After the movies the girls had a wonder around Dorking. Throughout the week the boarders played games of Ping pong. In a casual yet intense ping pong match, the atmosphere was charged with friendly competition and an eagerness to showcase their skills. On Thursday night the girls enjoyed a karaoke singing along to all sorts of music. A number of dance moves were shown, and laughter and smiles filled the room. This weekend the boarding House is planning on celebrating the Luna New Year. Lots of decorations will be hung up and a hot pot night will be hosted. In addition some of the boarders are going into London to have a look around China town and appreciated a nice lunch as well as the culture of this festive event.

Many thanks to FOST and the Cranmore CPA for arranging everything; we look forward to the next event!
POETRY LIVE Year 11 enjoyed a fantastic visit to Brighton for ‘Poetry Live’ where they got to hear several of the poets they are studying read and discuss their poems. This Week
The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, when we remember Mary and Joseph bringing the newborn Jesus to the Temple, bring to a close the season of Christmastide. This week the crib will be removed from the Chapel and stored ready for Advent next year. The focus of our celebration in Chapel was remembering the great words of the prophet Simeon. He had spent a whole lifetime faithfully in the Temple, waiting for the day when the Messiah would be revealed. Finally, in his old age, he set eyes on Jesus and exclaimed, in the prayer that we now know as the Nunc Dimittis, that his eyes had now seen the salvation of the world, the light to enlighten all peoples. Artists had often reflected this moment with a clear depiction of light emanating from the Christ Child, reflected in the face of Simeon. The example here by Gelder shows Simeon’s thankful, grace-filled face now radiant with that light. The artist Holman Hunt extends this idea with his famous ‘The Light of the World’ - an image that many will have seen in St Paul’s Cathedral. It shows Christ, now an adult, bring that light, the light of joy, hope, peace and love to us. It depicts a moment when Christ knocks on the door of our heart. Of course, the deliberate omission is a door handle. God’s invitation is always there. There is nothing that we can do to ever stop that invitation being offered. But it will only be fully revealed if we respond by opening the door. Will you open that door?
