The Boarders were welcomed back with new faces to the Boarding team.

Eco Council:

We are extremely proud to announce that St Teresa’s has just been awarded the prestigious Eco Schools Green Flag Award in recognition of the environmental work that has taken place over the course of the past academic year. Climate Change and sustainability is without doubt the most important issue that our students’ generation will have to face, and we strongly believe that it is our duty to raise awareness of the impact of the climate crisis through our curriculum as well as extra curricular activities.

The language heard making form of payment was “Cheque”. I let you have Czech even though that does slightly miss the point that it is the language that is heard and the form of payment that gets made….and doesn’t have the right number of letters. Henry Ford said working together is success. Spot on. For the maths problem the correct application of brackets gave you (3 + 4) x (2 + 6) = 56. Personally I really enjoyed the one about the origin of “the moment of truth”. Partly because I really enjoyed making up the story about Judge Horace Satchpole, the story about the Cuckoo Clock industry and the story about Noah and his dove. Which means that Spanish Bullfighting was the correct origin. Finally Richard III was the last Plantagenet monarch.

NOTICES:

Benedict have gone straight into the lead. Note that by moving to absolute scores it is much more important to have a go now than when I was using averages. Just one right question a week really helps your House.

THE WEEKLY QUIZ:

You are cordially invited to the CCF Welcome Talk on Thursday 6th October at 17h30

Mr Mark Stephens will be holding an introductory talk if your daughter is interested in joining the CCF and there will be an update of activities carried out so far.

Dear Parents

Combined Cadet Force

Year 13 Biology trip to Juniper Hall

After registration on Thursday morning, the Head Girl Team ran the Sixth Form assembly which involved the Year 12s getting to know their Year 13 buddies in the common room. To make the morning even more special, we organised breakfast for the Sixth Form. Thank you to Gary and his catering team for making the most delicious pastries for us. On Thursday evening it was the Sixth Form Open Evening. Pippa and I gave a speech explaining what it was like to be a Sixth Form student. The Year 11 girls and their parents were then able to get a thorough insight into Sixth Form life in the Sixth Form building where they could see both the A Level subject teachers and current Sixth Form students.

On Wednesday the Hockey XI Team participated in a Super 6’s Tournament at St George’s College. Along with my fellow teammates, I really enjoyed a day of lots of matches and team spirit. During Period 4 on Wednesday the rest of the Sixth Form had their weekly PE lesson. They all played football which was lots of fun and it was great for the Year 13s to get to know the Year 12s more.

This week was the first full week of the academic year, and it was a very busy week for both the Year 12 and 13 students. On Monday morning the Year 13 students took the Year 6 girls and their parents on a tour around the senior school after listening to a speech from Dr McShane and Olivia M (Head Girl). It was lovely to meet the Year 6 girls and their parents.

Charlotte Roberts (Lower School Prefect)

SIXTH FORM NEWS

Our new academic year began when the Year 12 girls came in for their Sixth Form Induction day last Wednesday. They had a welcome assembly from Miss Pitchford followed by meeting their new form tutors. To end their first day, the Head Girl Team organised a quiz about life in the Sixth Form for them, where they were in small groups with a Year 13 Senior Prefect in each group. Thank you to all the prefects that helped, we really enjoyed getting to meet our new Year 12 students. It was lovely to see the whole of Years 12 and 13 in school last Thursday for the first official day of school this year. We have vertical tutoring in the Sixth Form and so each form has both Year 12 and 13 students in it and so for our first form time we got to know the new members of our tutor group followed by Sixth Form cookies at break time!

The Year 7 girls came up the hill to start a new, exciting chapter in their life. All came with happy, enthusiastic smiles to meet their class as well as their form tutors. Mr Breeze gave them the debrief on what happens at St Teresa’s, along with a quick tour. I look forward to seeing what our new bunch of Year 7s create and discover!!

Emma W (Deputy Head Girl)

I hope everyone has a relaxing weekend and I look forward to updating you on more Sixth Form fun next week!

Hello Everyone, welcome back!

ARE YOU CONSIDERING BUYING AN E SCOOTER FOR YOUR CHILD?

Year 7 had their Yondr presentations on Thursday and their contributions to the discussions demonstrated great maturity. Many of them were shocked when they calculated the amount of time they spend on their phones and several realised that they are addicted, in particular to Snap scores when they feel obliged to use Snapchat daily to avoid breaking a streak. I strongly recommend the Netflix film "The Social Dilemma" if you would like to understand phone addiction and why we have introduced the Yondr system to help the girls learn to regulate their phone usage.

The NSEA team have been doing an amazing job over the summer and are already preparing for the 2022 23 competition year!

The Summer Holidays have been a busy time for the equestrian team! At the start of the holidays the horses had a well deserved holiday while some of the NSEA riders had a riding camp! There were then a lot of Pony Days and riding lessons which is great fun.

There will be more changes to the ponies over the next few months while we look for new members to join our team. All ponies go through a ‘trial period’ for us to decide whether they will be happy here and whether our rider will like them! Our fingers are crossed that we will have new friends to join us before the new year!

After a very hot summer, we finally have the classic English weather and a lot of rain! Because of this the grass has grown back really quickly and the horses are loving it!

Half Term Monday 17th October to Sunday 30th October

Adhoc / Catch up lessons w/c 12th December

We hope that you all have had lovely summer holidays and a great week back at school! We have had some changes to our ponies over the summer. Diesel has left the school and found a lovely new home, and Tango is at a loan home and is being his usual cheeky self and having fun! We also had to say goodbye to the amazing Twinkle, he will be dearly missed.

The pony of the week this week is… the new horse Fleur!

As there have been a lot of results, we will make sure that it all gets published on the website before the half term begins!

Visit our website www.st teresas.com/ equestrian

The staff have put in a lot of work to paint the stables and it really shows! Hopefully the ponies won’t get it too dirty before the Open Day where there will be lots of visitors!

This Week

This was not the week for which we had prepared. Usually we begin Chapel in the first week of this term with thoughts of the year ahead. Instead, as we observe a week of mourning following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we instead reflected on how and why we mourn and show our sadness at these moments when a loved and much-respected person dies. The indications of this period of mourning are all around us. We have seen many making floral tributes. Many events, including sports fixtures, have been cancelled and we are hearing how shops will close out of respect for the Queen. Colour, of course, is important. Even our own school logos have adjusted. Flags are at half mast and many thousands have travelled to personally show express their condolences. Everyone is encouraged, in whatever way they are able, to mark this time of mourning, both for the Queen, and for all those whom we mourn, that they may, as we always pray, Rest In Peace.
