BOARDING NEWS

Welcome back to a new term! We hope you had a fantastic Easter break filled with relaxation and fun adventures. As we dive back into the swing of things, there are some exciting updates and events to look forward to.

We're thrilled to announce that the renovations downstairs in Magdalen House have been completed! The space has undergone a remarkable transformation, boasting fresh paint, new TV’s and speakers, and a welcoming ambiance. These renovations have provided a cozy haven for relaxation and socializing, including a functional study space for sixth formers embarking on their final exams.

The girls are also delighted at the arrival of our brand-new boarding hoodies! These stylish and comfortable hoodies not only showcase our boarding pride but also provide warmth and coziness during these spring days and lighter evenings.

We are gearing up for some thrilling weekend trips in boarding that promise excitement and unforgettable memories. Whether it's adrenaline-pumping laser tag battles, heart racing rides at Thorpe Park, leisurely shopping in Kingston, or exploring the V&A Museum, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

Here’s to a fantastic term ahead in boarding!

SKI TRIP

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL

Our performing arts department put 'their heads in the game' and staged an incredible performance of High School Musical last term! So much work went into this production, and the girls involved should be very proud of their achievements!

LA FERIA DE ABRIL VIRTUAL TOUR

In an immersive cultural initiative, our Spanish department has once again curated an unforgettable experience for our pupils. This year, we embarked on a virtual journey to Sevilla, the vibrant heart of Andalusia, to participate in the iconic celebration of La Feria de Abril.

Through live video calls, our pupils were transported to the bustling streets of the Feria, where they witnessed the spectacle of flamenco dancers, adorned horses, and the lively ambiance that characterizes this popular festival. This direct connection with the festivities allowed our pupils to soak in the essence of Spanish culture and tradition from the comfort of their classrooms.

Moreover, they had the privilege of engaging in conversations with local people, who shared insights into their flamenco dresses, adorned with beautiful details and vibrant colours. From flamenco dresses to floral arrangements and traditional accessories, our pupils had a glimpse into the artistry and elegance of Andalusian fashion.

These live interactions served as a window into the Spanish culture, enriching our pupils understanding and appreciation of the customs and traditions that define La Feria de Abril.

EASTER MUSIC COURSE

It was wonderful to welcome so many talented children to our school for this year's Easter music course.

Over the span of five days, they refined their skills under the guidance of our music department and instructors, all in preparation for an extraordinary final concert!

ONE OCEAN T-SHIRT COMPETITION

This year we thought we’d give you all the opportunity to design the new One Ocean t-shirt that we’ll use for our One Ocean trip! This means we need you to get creative and design a t-shirt that embodies everything about One Ocean. Think about sustainability, sea creatures, plastic pollution, waste reduction and more! We’re looking for something that represents everything you’ve learned and want you to be as imaginative as possible.

Once all the submissions are in from all the schools, the entries will be reviewed by a board of KBR staff who will pick the winning t-shirt out of all the entries! The winning design will be transformed by the KBR graphics team so it’s ready for the t-shirt printing. This design will be printed onto the t-shirts and made for everyone to take home. There will be one winner overall, and a prize for the runner up from each school.

For the t-shirt competition, there are a few rules you need to follow to make sure you’re in with a chance of winning!

 Your design must have #KBROneOcean in it

 You cannot include your school logo (the competition is running across multiple schools!)

 We’d love it if you could include the One Ocean logo in your design!

 You can design it by hand or on the computer

 You can include a bio with your entry, explaining your picture, what it means and how it relates to One Ocean

 Make sure your drawing is big! Small details won’t be picked up on the final t-shirt

 Any writing must be clear and readable

 Make sure that your t-shirt design fits on the layout.

The designs must be completed no later than 4pm on the 22nd April 2024. Please hand them in to Mrs Menzies or Miss Bird who will then collect them.

If you would like a paper copy please go and see Mrs Menzies.

We hope that you have had a good Easter Holiday and are refreshed and ready to start the Summer Term!

At STE, we have had some changes with our equine team over the holidays.

Mr T hadn’t been feeling well with the workload and so went back home to his owners. Tango moved to his new loan home with our yard manager Katie, who then dropped off her lovely mare Bunny with us.

Bunny is a 14.2hh black Dales mare who competes in showing. She is very friendly, but make sure that you give her some space while she settles in so that she’s not overwhelmed! She will be slowly introduced in to lessons over the next couple of weeks to see how she gets on. We would also like to ask for everyone’s patience this term.

Some of our ponies have been feeling a bit under the weather or sore, or have undergone some veterinary treatment, and we are doing our best to look after them and get them fit and healthy again. Unfortunately, this means that we have to take them out of some lessons, so please to bear with us for the next few weeks while we are a bit short on what horses we can add to lessons.

We also had our first Interhouse Show Jumping with the NSEA riders! Well done to all who attended!

We will be also running a Interhouse Dressage on the last week of term on our STE horses and ponies. We will be acquiring your interest in this at a later date.

Horse Breeds: Arabian

The Arabian horse, or Arab as they are more commonly called, are from Arabia. They have striking features that can make them easily recognisable, such as their dished face. Arabs are very athletic, and usually have a slim figure and are used for polo and racing in Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

This Week

We begin by wishing you a very ‘Happy Easter’! We, together with billions across the world, celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Whether by eating and decorating Easter Eggs, that represent the empty tomb and the new birth of the resurrection, through the traditional images of bunnies and chicks, again symbols of new birth, or the beauty of creation as it burst forth at in this spring time, we all celebrate the reality of Jesus defeating death forever as He rose from the dead.

In Chapel, reflecting our Lenten series of reflections, we shall now meet three individuals who met the risen Christ on the day of the resurrection. This week, we met Mary of Magdala (John 20:11-18). Mary visited Jesus’ tomb early on Sunday morning to carry out the funeral rituals that had to be delayed due to Jesus dying on the eve of the festival. She found the tomb empty and wept.

Perceiving a person behind her, she assumed it was the gardener. Why would John include this detail? Surely we are to recognise, with a wry smile, that John is referring to Genesis 2, where Adam and Eve walked with God in the Garden of Eden. Through the resurrection, Jesus restores all that was damaged and broken in our world from Adam’s disobedience. Mary now walks in that restored garden.

She finally recognises Jesus when he calls her by name. We are called to recognise that the God who loves and cares for us knows us, also, by name and calls us to participate in the joy of the resurrection.

And finally, Mary, known as ‘the Apostle to the Apostles’ is send to share the news of the resurrection with Jesus followers. We too are called to develop and use our gifts and talents as we discover the mission that we are called to so that we, like Mary, can share the good news of the resurrection with our world.
