Friday afternoon was one of shirt-signing, pizza-eating and thanks-giving, celebrating everything over the past years at St. Ts. The weather was perfectly sunny and bright, contributing to the celebration mood. We wish all the Year 13s luck and success in their exams and congratulations for all you have achieved.

Have a lovely weekend, Amelia

(Deputy Head Girl)

YEAR 13 LITURGY

Thursday was the day of our Year 13 Liturgy and celebration dinner. We gathered together to honour the dedication and achievements of all the girls during their A Levels. Following a lovely service where the girls received candles as a keepsake of their time at St. Teresa’s, everyone enjoyed a meal together. Some heartfelt speeches were also shared. As the girls embark on new chapters in their lives, our sincerest wishes accompany them on their journey ahead!

YEAR 11 STUDY LEAVE

Year 11 celebrated their last day of school before starting their exams. They had an end of year assembly and signed their decorated shirts - There were some fantastic shirt designs this year.

We wish all the girls the best of luck for their upcoming exams!

BOARDING

This week was full of excitement and fun in boarding.Afternoons are always filled with laughter and friendly competition as pupils gather to play games, with Twister being this week’s choice. The week ended on a high note with a cosy movie night on Friday, complete with popcorn and a Domino’s pizza treat for the girls. Over the long weekend, pupils embarked on a delightful trip to Shere, where they enjoyed feeding ducks, indulging in delicious ice cream, and exploring the quaint town

On Saturday, our boarders visited Kingston for a shopping trip, providing pupils with the opportunity to explore the shops and enjoy some retail therapy!

Being the Bank holiday the girls had a relaxing day at home, the weather was against us as it rained all day. However, that never dampens our spirits. More movies were watched and revision continued for the girls for their exams. When the rain stopped Katy managed to find some Bluebells!

YEAR 8 GEOGRAPHY TRIP

On Wednesday 8 May theYear 8 pupils went on a Geography trip to Dorking and its surroundings.

They studied tourism at Box Hill, shopping in Dorking and visited a working beef cattle farm managed by parents of St Teresa's pupils.

We enjoyed getting out of the classroom and into nature and were thankful for the warm sunny weather and ice-cream!

LEARNING SPANISH THROUGH COOKING

In a delightful fusion of language learning and culinary exploration, pupils fromYear 12 recently embarked on a unique gastronomic journey organised by the Spanish department. The mission? To master the art of making a traditional Spanish dish - the beloved tortilla de patatas.

Under the guidance of our Spanish teachers, pupils gathered for a hands-on cooking session. With potatoes, eggs, and enthusiasm, they dove into the culinary adventure, eagerly putting their language skills to the test as they chopped, fried, and flipped their way to tortilla perfection.

But this was more than just a cooking class; it was an immersive language experience. As pupils followed recipes and exchanged cooking tips in Spanish, they honed their language skills.

At the end, the pupils took their tortillas home, ready to share their dishes with family and friends. But the memories of laughter, learning, and the taste of tortilla de patatas will remind us that language learning is more than textbooks and grammar drills - it's about embracing culture and creativity in our lessons too.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH GOLD PRACTICE

EXPEDITION

During the bank holiday weekend, five of us headed to the Peak District to take part in our DofE Gold practice expedition. We departed from St Teresa’s early Friday morning. Upon arrival at our first campsite, we embarked on a short preparatory hike, which involved us going off path and climbing up a rocky mountain to help prepare us for the next four days. From Saturday to Tuesday, we faced boggy marshes, gorgeous landscapes and stumbled across a few famous sites, the WWII plane crash site being the one that stands out the most. After an impressive five days of walking and four nights camping, we were all more than ready to head back home on Tuesday afternoon.

EVENING OF DANCE

We were utterly captivated by the dazzling display our dancers presented this Wednesday evening during our ‘Evening of Dance’. The girls showcased a variety of dance styles set to an array of musical genres, leaving us thoroughly impressed by their talent and dedication. Bravo, girls!

ECO COUNCIL NEWS

This week, KBR launched a fun activity during their Thursday lunchtime session: in groups, we had to tackle a large problem (such as microplastics, global warming or biodiversity) by thinking of engineering solutions to combat these problems. They encouraged us to think about the logistics of these solutions, such as their cost, scale and popularity. It ended with each group presenting their ideas on the whiteboard, and was a great session. They really got us all thinking! Abi B

This Week

On Thursday, the 40th day since Easter, we celebrated the Solemnity of the Ascension. It was wonderful to be able to welcome Fr Charles, the new Parish Priest at Effingham and Fetcham, along with his parishioners, to celebrate Mass with us.

The number 40 is always significant in scripture. It always introduces a time when God is going to interact in a new way to our world. Noah spent 40 days waiting for the flood to subside before he could step out onto the newly cleansed world. Abraham waited 40 days before the Ten Commandments were revealed. And Jesus himself prepared for 40 days in the wilderness before His ministry and the events of his passion, death and resurrection. So the Ascension, falling as it does on the 40th day indicates that something new is going to happen. But what?

The Ascension marks the tipping point in Jesus ministry. As the Incarnate Son of God, Jesus was certainly fully God, but He was also fully human. The Word of God who was there at the very beginning of creation humbled himself to become human, to take on flesh. And as such, His humanity, like all humanity, was limited in time and space. Put simply, Jesus could only do what He could do in the year or so of his earthly ministry, in the area where He lived, at the time He lived. As he declared, triumphantly from the cross on Good Friday, this earthly work was accomplished. But it wasn’t the end of that ministry. Firstly, He was to return to where he had come from, the right hand of His heavenly Father. And secondly, He passed His mission into the hands of his followers, for this mission was no longer restricted to first century Palestine. It was now to spread across the world.

The Ascension marks that point. From His place at the Father’s side, He could continue to bring the Good News of God’s love to the whole world. By inspiring first His disciples, and then countless fellow followers down through the centuries His mission continued. Our presence here, two thousand years later is proof of that mission.

Of course, the disciples did not yet have the power to fulfil that mission but that is a story for next week!
