YEAR 10 GEOGRAPHY TRIP
The Year 10 Geography students enjoyed a short residential trip to Dorset in order to complete the required fieldwork component of the AQA GCSE. On the drive down to Osmington Bay we stopped off at Barton on Sea to review the coastal processes and to consider the threat of erosion and how this is being defended against. We also stopped at Studland Bay for our packed lunch and to consider coastal processes and the development of sand dunes and how they are being managed; before making the walk along the headland to see the eroded chalk headland off which Old Harry rocks are located. In the evening, those who opted to participate enjoyed a silent disco.
The following day, we completed our human fieldwork in Weymouth, where the girls surveyed contrasting residential areas and then moved on to Upperwey to complete the physical fieldwork of measuring the river channel characteristics. The girls showed great resilience in spite of the heavy rain, but were glad to return to the centre for a hot shower and to change into dry clothes. In the evening, some of the girls participated in a quiz/challenge laid on by the centre staff. The skies cleared for our return journey which involved a stop at West Lulworth, walks to Durdle Door and
