SIXTH FORM NEWS
The Sixth Form has been very quiet since the Year 13’s have left on study leave for their A-level examinations on Friday the 10th May. We will continue to miss them and wish them all the best for their exams.
On Monday, Year 12 had the opportunity to listen Dr Knight, the guest speaker for our career's lesson. It was very interesting to hear how she became a doctor, and she showed us that your career or study path does not have to look a certain way (as she studied to be a dietician, specialized in stroke treatment, studied to be a doctor, then took a gap year, and has returned as a GP) which encouraged many of us. It was also enlightening to see what a day in the life of a GP looks like, and what characteristics will get you far in the workplace.
On Friday, we had an Inter-House dance competition. Many of the girls had been practicing hard for this competition, with the theme being "faith", which developed into "trust". The spectators enjoyed the stunning performances, and had the chance to buy ice lollies, being sold by the Head Girl Team to fundraise for Toilet Twinning. Thank you to all of the girls who supported us. Attached to this bulletin is a link which can be used to directly transfer money to our Just Giving page. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Additionally, the A-Level Latin and Classics students (Amelia, Evie, Flavia, Maria) had the opportunity to visit the British Museum on Thursday the 16th May. The girls had a great time, and particularly enjoyed their lunch at a pizzeria.
Have a lovely weekend! Abigail
MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK
This week it has been incredible to get all the girls- Prep and Senior- involved in activities for mental health awareness week. The week started with a wonderful assembly to the Prep School.
As this year's theme is movement, we organised for the girls to go on walks with Yogi, our therapy dog, each breaktime as well as many fun sporting activities during lunchtime to get the girls moving for their mental health.
We participated in some mindfulness art, all in green to show unity for the colour of Mental Health Awareness week.
We also organised for the Year 7's to make A-Level Survival Kits for the Year 13 girls full of little bits to help them reduce their stress over study leave and to wish them luck for their exams. Everyone has got fully stuck in and embraced moving more to help improve their mental health!

BOARDING
As we hit the middle of half term, boarding promised our St Teresa's girls another week of family-like camaraderie, engaging outdoor activities, and fun times with friends.
As part of our Surrey Week celebrations, our girls visited the Kingfisher Farm Shop on Saturday. The trip was a delightful opportunity to support our local community while basking in the gorgeous sunny summer day. The girls enjoyed some traditional English activities such as feeding the ducks, enjoyed a picnic, and sponging. The farm shop’s fresh produce and charming atmosphere added to the joy of the outing, making it a truly memorable experience for our boarders.
Saturday evening was a blast with the Eurovision finals! The boarders gathered, armed with delicious snacks and boundless enthusiasm, to watch the show. They played an exciting game of guessing which country would take the crown, with cheers and laughter filling the room. The energy was electric as everyone got caught up in the amazing performances and friendly competition. To cap off the week, we were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights right here in Effingham. The amazing display of colours in the night sky was a breath-taking sight and a perfect way to end week 4 in boarding.

JUNIOR MATHS CHALLENGE
On April 25th , about 100 of the Year 7 and 8 pupils participated with thousands of other students in the UK and students internationally in the junior mathematics challenge.
The Junior Mathematical Challenge is a 60-minute, 25 multiple-choice questions. It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. The problems are designed to make students think.
Our pupils produced some excellent results and did themselves and our school proud. A special mention to Kaitlyn C and Kay L who both achieved a gold certificate. Congratulations to all the pupils who participated.

This Week
With all the celebrations of Easter and, more recently, the Ascension, it is easy to forget that we are in the month of May, the month that is traditionally dedicated to Mary. Mary is absolutely central to our faith. Almost every church you every visit to commemorate the memory of Mary through statues of other images, very often cradling the infant Jesus in the pose of Madonna and Child. Our school Chapel is no exception, with its beautiful 18th century image of Our Lady of Sorrows.
In Chapel this week we heard the account of the Annunciation, that amazing mystical experience that Mary had when the Angel Gabriel invited her to become the mother of God’s incarnate Son. The image we chose for accompany the reading was chosen deliberately. While there are thousands of similar images, we are reminded here that the angel, God’s herald and a heavenly creature, bows down before Mary, who, we are told, was ‘full of grace,’ Mary, of course, had a choice. The decision was not forced upon her. Instead, she freely chose to participate in God’s plan of salvation and humbly declares,‘I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let what you have said be done unto me.’
It is unlikely that we will experience God’s call to us in such a dramatic way.. Appearances of winged heavenly messengers are rare!! Yet each and everyone of us will just as surely be called by God. We believe that each and everyone of us is part of God’s great plan for our world and for humanity. Indeed, each of us is called to participate in a unique way to enable that plan to be completed.
Mary declares, in her great hymn,The Magnificat, that ‘my soul is filled with joy.’ Surely one of the main reasons that Mary gave her great ‘YES’ to God was the knowledge that it would bring about the greatest of joys. Despite any troubles or challenges - and she was in no doubt that these would come - her openness to God’s plan was to be the greatest source of joy in her life. Likewise, when we open ourselves to participate in God’s wonderful plan for us, so we too will experience a depth of joy beyond anything that the world can offer!
