SIXTH FORM NEWS
Welcome back from the Bank Holiday weekend! This is what life has been like in the Sixth Form this week:
On Tuesday morning, Freya R, Georgina S and Jadwiga KL represented the Sixth Form in the House Debate; debating what rules they believe should be abolished from St Teresa’s. They came up with some very compelling arguments and rebuttals for wearing more jewellery and getting rid of our school uniform. The girls did very well and congratulations to Benedict for winning!
Georgina S attended an Oxbridge Society session this week and said: “Year 12 was presented a talk by Dr Poffley on the admission tests that must be taken by applicants as the first stage of their application. We looked over a practice test for the HAT (History Admissions Test), as well as the ELAT (English Admissions Test), which included unseen extracts for analysis, all of which was very valuable information as we prepare to apply in September.”
Sophie R, our lovely Pastoral Prefect, shared her upcoming plans: “On Thursday morning, the Pastoral Committee and Lower School Prefects had a meeting in the Lecture Theatre to discuss logistics for a form time team-building quiz that is running next week. We are all really excited for it to take place and have enjoyed working as a team to produce a fun event!”
All week, the Year 13s have been working hard to prepare for their liturgy and celebration dinner on Thursday, decorating the marquee and inviting teachers to join them for drinks on the lawn, followed by dinner, served to them by the Year 12s. We are so proud of all the Year 13s for surviving A Levels and we wish them the best of luck in their exams and lives beyond St Teresa’s.
And lastly, our wonderful Academic Prefect, Corellia W, has worked hard to set up a tutoring scheme, where Year 7s can get help with homework or revision in a variety of subjects offered by our volunteer Year 12s. Thank you to the following girls for offering their free time and help in these subjects:
English Beth History/Maths Louise
French Jadwiga Geography Romilly
Spanish Alba Maths Coco
Latin/Science Aleisha
I hope everyone has a great weekend and I look forward to writing to you again next week.

BOARDING NEWS
This Bank Holiday weekend was filled with lots of activities and fun around the boarding house.
Everyone had a wonderful time celebrating and watching the King’s coronation on Saturday. The lovely kitchen staff put together an afternoon tea for everyone to enjoy, which included traditional coronation chicken curry sandwiches!
The girls also had a shopping trip out to Guilford, one of their favourite trips, where they got to explore all along the high street which had been wonderfully decorated for the coronation.
It was Marta’s 14th birthday on Sunday! The girls planned a beautiful picnic for her out in the garden and we enjoyed a delicious cake in the evening.
The girls then set off on their second Monday trip of the term to Thorpe Park! Despite the forecast for rain, we set off in the bus for a packed day of rides, fun and lots of screaming! At the end of the day, all the girls were asked which rides were their favourites and which rides they found the scariest.
Next week we have another shopping trip planned, this time out in London.
KING’S FEST
It was wonderful to welcome all our school community to celebrate the King’s coronation at our King Fest event last Friday afternoon. What a wonderful way to start off the coronation weekend! We would like to extend a huge thank you to FOST and our EDI team who made the whole thing possible.

PSHE TALKS
On Friday, a drugs educator from the Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation spoke to our Year 8, Year 9, Year 10 and Year 12 pupils.
The Daniel Spargo-Mabbs (DSM) Foundation is a drug and alcohol education charity set up by Fiona and Tim Spargo-Mabbs in 2014 after the tragic death of their 16 -year-old son Daniel as a result of taking ecstasy. The aim of the charity is to support young people to make safer choices about drugs, and the Foundation is now working with pupils, teachers, parents/carers and professionals in nearly 500 schools, colleges and community organisations right across the UK and increasingly further afield too.
ECO COUNCIL NEWS
This week in One Ocean, we learnt about the myriad of job opportunities that come under sustainability, whether environmental, economic or social. We explored the many university courses available that would go towards careers in sustainability, such as chemical engineering, zoology, environmental politics and ecology, and we heard from two experts from KBR about the education they went through to get to where they are today.
It was very encouraging to those who are interested in this area to discover that sustainability can be approached from so many different directions and that the demand for these jobs is continuously growing. We all really enjoyed the talk!

This Week
May is a month traditionally dedicated to Mary, often referred to as Our Lady, the mother of Jesus. We reflect through the month of May on the way that Mary directs us towards Jesus. In the same way that she said ‘Yes’ at the annunciation, so we are asked to do the same and accept God’s invitation in our lives. During Chapel this week we reflected on Jesus’ first miracle. He and Mary were attending a marriage feast in the town of Cana. The celebrations were in jeopardy when the supply of wine dried up. Mary instructed the servants to ‘do whatever Jesus tells you to do.’ Jesus then told the servants to prepare huge jars of water that, when they drew some out, had miraculously been transformed into wine. This account reminds us of why Mary is so important. While we honour Mary as the greatest of disciples, and as one who was uniquely graced to be worthy to bring God’s only son into the world in the flesh, we don’t worship Mary. Instead, we recognise that in everything she did as a witness to her son, she directs us towards him and continues to guide and support his followers to be faithful witnesses as she was.
To this end, Mary in particular, encourages us to spend moments of prayer with her son. One way that we can do this is to pray the Rosary. This beautiful traditional prayer reminds us of the journey of Mary’s life as a follower of Jesus, and inspires us to do the same. During the prayer, we ask Mary for her support. As a school community we prayed the Rosary together before the statue of Our Lady, asking for her support and guidance as we remembered those who are ill, those parts of the world that need peace, and for all our personal, private intercession. Perhaps through the remainder of May we can continue to be inspired and supported by Mary’s great faith.
