BOARDING NEWS Last weekend our lovely Gap Students Charlotte and Lucy were royally invited to the Anzac Service in Westminster Abbey. They had a wonderful time and feel so grateful for having had the opportunity to attend. The Boarders had another fun packed weekend; being the Bank Holiday weekend, we tried to fit in as much as possible. Friday night was our usual trip to Sainsbury’s, the girls enjoy going to a supermarket to see what is on offer and stock up on supplies. On Saturday we had a day in London, enjoying the shops in Oxford Street; the girls came home with some wonderful purchases. Whilst the girls were in London we welcomed former Boarders back to the Boarding house for our 'STOGA' event. STOGA is our Alumnae Association managed by our Director of Marketing, Natacha Menzies. It was a wonderful event and so lovely to meet the ladies who used to attend St Teresa’s and hear some of their fantastic stories! Please do have a look at the school website for more information. The girls enjoyed pizza and coffee whilst watching shoppers go by in Dorking on Monday lunchtime. On Monday afternoon we drove to Harry Potter Studios. It's a magical place to visit and was much enjoyed. We spent 3 hours mesmerised by all the film sets and 'special features'. The famous Butterbeer drink was tried but was far too sweet for Mrs Wragg. Next week we are planning on going to Guildford to the Escape rooms and also a trip to the cinema. Our new Hoodies have arrived and the girls love them! Mrs Wragg Deputy Head of Boarding
MFL NEWS FERIA DE ABRIL This week the MFL department has showed the students of St Teresa's one of the most important festivals in the South of Spain: the ‘Feria de Abril’ in Seville (from April 30th to May 9th). During the Spanish lessons, the students have been able to connect live with people from the city, who have explained to them what the Feria is all about and have shown them their beautiful flamenco dresses. Through these kinds of activities, the MFL department motivates the students to continue learning the language through understanding and knowing the culture of the country.
LOLA LLATAS Lola Llatas, our Spanish Teaching Assistant in MFL has been signing her books in one of the biggest book fairs in Valencia (Spain). Lola is an author of children's, young-adult and adult literature. She studied Civil Engineering, which allowed her to work and live in different European countries, India and Australia. Many different experiences led her to devote herself to literature. Mrs Granada Herbello
WORLD SCHOLAR’S CUP During the Easter holidays St Teresa's hosted a regional round of the World Scholar’s Cup competition. This is an international academic competition which celebrates learning. Students study a themed curriculum and then compete in teams of three in four different events Team debate, Collaborative writing, Scholars' challenge, and Scholars' bowl, over the course of two days. We hosted 5 local schools with 51 students (17 teams) taking part. The event also included a talent show and a showcase debate, featuring the best debaters of the round. Our very own Alice G ended up in the winning team arguing that we should forgive someone for making the same mistake twice. St Teresa's entered 7 teams, with students from Years 7-9. Our best performing student was Isabel C and our best placed team comprising of Isabel, Georgie H and Fizzy K finished 2nd place overall. This was a first introduction to the World Scholars' Cup programme and we hope next year to offer an international trip to a global round of the competition for the students that qualify in the regional round. Ms Hobkinson

MUSIC NEWS—CHOIR TOUR TO SICILY There are still places available for the Choir Tour to Sicily in October 2022. The tour is open to all girls who are currently in Years 8 to 12. Please reply as soon as possible to Mr Caister. See details below: The music department is delighted to launch the Senior Choir Tour to Sicily from October 14 th to the 17th 2022. During the trip we will visit Mount Etna, visit the amazing archaeological sites at Syracuse and soak up the amazing culture of the area. Shopping time will be included plus masses of fabulous Sicilian Ice Cream. And of course some concerts as well. The tour will include 3 concerts, and we will have the use of a coach for the duration of the visit. As usual we will have a packed itinerary. We will stay in a 4-star hotel near Taormina. From there we can visit Mount Etna, plus have a boat trip and explore the archaeological sites at Syracuse and experience the amazing history of the area. No doubt, there will be shopping time as well, and masses of fabulous Sicilian ice cream!
All girls from Year 9 upwards in September 2022 are eligible to join the Choir and the tour. There is no audition for the Senior Choir (only the Chamber Choir requires an audition), but the girls are expected to commit themselves to the Choir for the coming two terms. Girls must be prepared to give priority to all rehearsals, which are held every Wednesday from 4.15pm until 5.15pm. Participation in the Autumn and Spring Concerts, and the Carol Service, are mandatory. Mr Caister, Director of Music
IT’S FRIDAY, QUIZ TIME... Here we are. I have simplified still further. You don't need to choose which questions you want to answer. You can just click through the six easy, two harder and one hardest and do as many as you can. https://forms.office.com/r/HqkgUmZZaB Did you know that this is Neurodiversity month on the Wellbeing Hub? Nor did I, but putting the quiz together made me think about this subject more deeply and perhaps as a result my ability to be inclusive will be enhanced. I certainly think this is a great subject to be discussing generally. Don’t forget to go to the last page for the Wellbeing question and to rate your own brilliance. So after the first week - on absolute values not averages for now - Francis lead the Houses and Year 9 the Year Groups. Good luck with these questions. Mr Neate
INVESTMENT CLUB A reminder that Investment Club will resume on Mondays at 16.15 in Room 38. Everyone is welcome. Mr Neate

NOTICES: GUILDFORD CATHEDRAL WALK I am excited to announce that on Thursday 23 June, during Values Week, we have arranged a stunningly beautiful walk along the Pilgrim’s North Downs Way from St Teresa’s to Guildford Cathedral. We first ran this pilgrimage last year and it was extremely successful, enjoyable and popular so we are now extending it to invite all girls in Years 9, 10 and 12. The walk is 18km and almost all off road so will not be suitable to girls who will struggle with this distance in these conditions. Mrs Cawley, Deputy Headmistress Pastoral

The trip gives our dance students an excellent opportunity to explore a variety of Dance to inspire their upcoming choreography pieces. Following the performance, the girls will have the opportunity to stay for the ‘Q & A’, where they will be able to find out more about Dance at Higher Education. Miss Richards
RAF SUMMER CAMP—CHANGE OF DATE Further to my letter sent in March, there has been a change of date to the Summer Camp, which will now be from Saturday 9 July 2022 until Saturday 16 July 2022. We will leave from Cranmore at 14:00 and will expect to return to Cranmore on the afternoon of Saturday 16 July (exact timings will be shared closer to the time). If you would like your daughter to attend the camp, I would be grateful if you could complete the parental consent form that was e-mailed to you this week and return by Wednesday 11 May.
YEAR 9 MACBETH WORKSHOP On Friday, Year 9 watched a wonderful performance of Macbeth by The Young Shakespeare Company. Before the play started they showcased their acting skills with an improvisation activity where they performed scenes from Macbeth using character and theme suggestions from the audience: e.g. Mean girls, Horror etc. In the play we got to see their own ideas and portrayal of the characters- I particularly enjoyed the zombie-like witches! The play was creative and innovative, with only four people to play all the different characters. They did an amazing job. Thank you to the English Department for organizing this. By Lilly S 9OM

SIXTH FORM NEWS This week has been another busy week in the Sixth Form! The Year 13 girls have been busy revising for their upcoming A-Level exams, whilst the Year 12 students have been finishing off their courses, preparing for their Summer Exams after half term. During our Enrichment Session on Thursday, we began our new groups for the term. The activities were yoga, wellbeing, volunteering, new skill and learning about current affairs; we will complete one more cycle next half term, and then will have experienced all of the sessions over the course of the year. On Friday we had Open Morning where some of the Year 12 students welcomed the prospective parents and their daughters into the school. Dr McShane began the event with her presentation followed By Olivia M (Head Girl) who gave an interesting speech to everyone. Some of the Sixth Formers then conversed with the visitors before they were toured around the School by the Year 7 and 8 students. Well done to everyone who was involved in this event! As a treat for the Sixth Form before the Year 13’s depart for study leave, we went on a trip to Air Hop during our PE lesson on Friday afternoon. Both year groups thoroughly enjoyed the trampolining, and it was a fantastic activity for the Year 13 girls to have on one of their last PE lessons at St T’s. This week Kirsten and I launched a tutoring initiative for Years 10 and 11, run by our wonderful Year 12 volunteers. Thank you to all Year 12’s who have volunteered to help and for doing such a great job so far! We asked the Year 10s and 11s which subjects they would like to be tutored in and set up a timetable to fit in as many of their requests as possible. The sessions are hosted in the Sixth Form classrooms during lunchtimes and are available for anyone who feels like coming along. We hope this will help anyone struggling or just looking for a little extra support! Jess H (Academic Prefect) The Sixth Form have participated in lots of extra-curricular sports this week including hockey club on Tuesday lunch time and tennis after school on Wednesday. Next week we are looking forward to attending Rounders on Monday. Ella W (Sport Captain) With help from some of the mental health ambassadors, we had the first session of Chat & Craft this week. We were really excited to introduce this club to our community and provide a space for the girls to talk about anything on their mind, whilst doing some fun, relaxing crafts. This week we started with bracelet making which also included making key-rings and earrings! Everyone is welcome to drop in every Wednesday lunch at SF4. In addition, I had the privilege of helping out and watching the music concert on Wednesday evening. It was a beautiful Summer’s evening and all of the performances were amazing. It was also lovely to have the opportunity for everyone at the concert to thank Mr Caister, our Director of Music, for all he has done for our community during his time here; he will be sorely missed upon his retirement at the end of this academic year. This Week We continued our journey through the season of Easter and took another opportunity to reflect on a character who met with the Risen Christ on the day of His resurrection. This week we met Cleopas (Luke 24). It is perhaps not surprising that the disciples suspected that they would face the same fate as Jesus had done, dying so horribly on the cross. Perhaps this was the reason why Cleopas and his companion took the perilous decision to travel, while it was still dark, to the town of Emmaus. Clearly they were pouring out their hearts to each other along the road, sharing their dismay and deep disappointment at what had happened. They were unexpectedly interrupted by a curious stranger who accompanied them as they walked along. With enormous irony Luke puts the question, ‘Are you the only person who does not know what happened in Jerusalem?’ onto Cleophas lips, when we, represented by the other disciple, know all too well that if anyone knows what has really been going on, it is surely Jesus who is walking along the road beside them. It is true in life, that we often don’t notice the things that are right under our noses. Of course, the events depicted in the Gospel account are portrayed on the altar in the Chapel, showing that moment when the two disciples finally recognise that Jesus has been accompanying them on every step of their journey. Perhaps this is one of the main lessons for us from this account. The God who loves us does indeed accompany us on every step of our journey, ,speaking words of gentle encouragement and support, and particularly at those moments of greatest challenge and fear. He is always there, but we don’t always recognise His presence. As we reflect on the experience of Cleopas, perhaps we can become more aware of God’s presence along side us as our ever-present companion on our journey through life.
