SIXTH FORM NEWS

Hi all,

I hope you have had a lovely week! We have been very busy in the Sixth Form recently:

On Monday, the Head Girl Team delivered a Whole School Assembly to give an update on what our Toilet Twinning campaign has achieved so far. Thanks to all your help we have raised £1454 so far, which is nearly equivalent to half the toilets at St. Ts! There is an array of fundraising activities in the future so keep an eye out. Thank you for

The Year 12s were given an assembly by Alicia C on Thursday, informing them of the various Sixth Form responsabilities. These include being a part of the Events Committee, The Food Fairy bread, biscuits and coffee each week, Year 7 buddies and others. Applications have begun and roles will be

Thursday saw the Effingham Sixth Form Open Evening. We welcomed students from across the Trust and external applicants. Various stalls were set up allowing parents and students to ask specific subject questions, general questions about the Sixth Form, and important details about how the Sixth Form prepares students for the UCAS Application. Volunteers from Year 12 and 13 were able to give their own experience of the Sixth Form and offer valuable insight into what life is like here.

Year 13 received their predicted grades on Friday. To celebrate Gary and the Kitchen staff baked us some lovely cookies which we had with iced tea. Congratulations to Year 13 and keep going!

Enjoy a restful weekend,

BOARDING NEWS

This week boarding has been packed with excitement! The girls embarked on various adventures, starting with our Open Morning, where we warmly welcomed new families eager to explore both the boarding experience and the school itself. Many of our boarders stepped up to guide the tours, showcasing their home to prospective families.

Following the Open Morning, the girls enjoyed a delightful shopping trip to Guildford, where they had a blast exploring the shops and indulging in a little retail therapy. On Sunday, they continued the fun with their weekly visit to church.

Throughout the week, the girls participated in a variety of activities, culminating in a fiercely competitive game of Uno that brought out their spirited side. It’s been another memorable week filled with joy!

EFFINGHAM SIXTH FORM OPEN

EVENING

Our current Year 11 pupils from across the Trust and other prospective Sixth Form families attended our Sixth Form Open evening on Thursday. They were able to discuss their A-Level options for next year and view the facilities from which our Sixth Formers will benefit. These will include their new café, gym, Science labs, Art classrooms and Design and Technology workshop in addition to the excellent facilities already available such as our lecture theatre and university style classrooms.

The informative evening gave everyone the opportunity to hear about our exciting new developments and students the chance to meet their A Level teachers, EPQ and Careers supervisors. With thirty A level subjects on offer as well as a vast array of co-curricular activities, there was something for everyone.

KARL NOVA

This week, in celebration of National Poetry Day, we had the pleasure of welcoming Karl Nova to our school. Karl is an acclaimed poet, hip-hop artist, and author. The girls had a wonderful opportunity to meet him and get their books signed.

The day began with an inspiring talk from Karl, where he shared his insights on poetry and performed some of his powerful work through live readings. In the afternoon, he led engaging workshops, giving the girls a chance to explore their own creativity and try their hand at writing poetry.

SHOEBOX APPEAL

The Children in Distress charity has been sending shoeboxes as gifts to the marginalised and needy in Romania for the past 30 years. This program has provided hope to thousands of Romanian families and we have been glad that as a school community we have been able to support this endeavour.

Please bring your shoeboxes into school in the week beginning Monday 14th October and no later than Friday 18th October. This leaflet contains the information regarding how the shoeboxes should be packed. Please pay particular attention to the section entitled ‘How to pack your Christmas Gift SHOEBOX’ on the second page. Hard copies of this leaflet are available at the Main Reception.

This Week

Bible Reading

The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Mark 4

Reflection

Sometimes as we journey and move through life we can face storms.

These can often take us by surprise. Life can be unpredictable.

The Disciples recognise Jesus as Teacher, but after this miracle as more than a Teacher. We too may think we know Jesus. But we must continue to grow in our knowledge of the one who can calm the storms.

Prayer

Lord, bring peace and calm to the storms I am facing or may face in the future. Remind us all that you are with us and that you control the waters. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.

“May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be.”
