NEW HOUSE!
We are pleased to announce that we have a new house:
ST TABITHA
“A disciple of Jesus, Act of the Apostles, she was known for her good works and acts of charity, such as sewing clothes for those less fortunate. Her compassion for her fellow brother and sisters was plentiful as she actively looked out for the needy and the poor.”
As voted on by the students the new House’s colour will be purple.
SIXTH FORM NEWS
This week in the Sixth Form we have enjoyed several special events: the art students attended a Sixth Form art trip, two Sixth Form netball teams took part in a netball tournament and the Year 12 students enjoyed a talk from one of our alumnae students, Imogen, who is in her second year of university, training to become a nurse.
We began our week with a launch assembly for European Languages Week. Georgina, Deputy Head Girl, attended the Salsa lesson at lunchtime and kindly shared her experience with us below:
‘As part of European Languages Week, the whole school had the opportunity to partake in Salsa dancing lessons. We learnt how to dance the classic Mambo, and then incorporated this into a small routine. It was great fun and set us up for a great week of European Languages Week! We hope you all had a great week and were able to enrich yourselves in a new culture’.
It is the time of year for university applications to be prepared and sent away. Over the next week, the students who are applying to medical school, Oxford and Cambridge will submit their applications. All of the students have been working very hard to ensure that their applications are finished. A huge congratulations to everyone applying and we all wish you the best of success!

Isabella Z, a Year 13 Art student gives us an insight into the Art Trip from Tuesday: ‘This week, the year 12 and 13 students went to Kew Gardens for an art trip. It was a great opportunity for the A-level art students to take photographs and drawings related to their themes in the sketchbook. The architectural designs of the Gardens and the many plants from all over the country were certainly interesting to see’
On Wednesday, we had a tournament to kick off the netball season. Two teams were entered, and they all played with major gusto especially as these are new teams, and it was lovely to have such a huge turnout. It was a long afternoon and both teams played numerous amounts of matches. A particular well done to the first XII as they managed to clinch third place. Overall, a successful afternoon with many more to come!

Lastly, this week our Head Girl Jadwiga has been working with the Director of Marketing and Alumnae and organising Sixth Form tour guides for a special event this Saturday. Jadwiga kindly shared some information with us about this up and coming event: ‘this Saturday we are excited to welcome some members of STOGA back to the school for the day. A number of Sixth Formers will be carrying out tours which will offer the members an insight into the changes of our ever-evolving school!’
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend

BOARDING NEWS
This week St Teresa’s had an Open Morning where lots of new prospective families got to see our lovely Boarding House. We all helped out on the day.
Later that day we had some fun Ten Pin Bowling.
Yogi the school therapy dog came to visit us and we took him for a walk around the school grounds.
The girls also enjoyed making origami wishing stars.
KEW GARDENS ART TRIP
This week Year 12 & 13 Fine Art, Photography & Textiles pupils had the opportunity to visit Kew Gardens, which holds an amazing collection of exotic plant forms and architectural structures. This visit allowed the pupils to collect vital first-hand research, which they will be able to use back in the classroom. The sun was shining, and we all had fun!
CCF GLIDING
On Sunday 24 September, four cadets from St Teresa’s CCF went to 615 Volunteer Gliding school in Kenley, Surrey. It was a windy morning which can sometimes lead to the cancellation of gliding. However, upon arrival to the gliding school the staff seemed optimistic that they could get each cadet at least one flight each throughout the day. The cadets were taken to the briefing room and were required to watch a safely video on the glider. They then had to practice how to leave the aircraft in case of an emergency. This included how to bail out of the aircraft and how to deploy a parachute if necessary. Once all the safety training was completed the cadets headed out on the airfield. For each glider launch, cadets were required to push the gliders into position. This required energy and teamwork. The cadet and pilot then slipped into the glider ready for launch. The glider was then hooked up to a winch cable which winds in extremely quickly and accelerated the glider into the air. Whilst in
the air cadets were given the opportunity to take control of the glider and learn the basics of turning the aircraft. They were also able to admire the views of the countryside below. At the end of the flight the pilot took the glider into land. All the cadets managed to fly despite the windy weather. It was an enjoyable day
SELF DEFENCE WITH JASON O’ CONNER
Following on from a previous lecture the Sixth Form have been having practical sessions with an expert in self defence Jason O’ Conner, who gave them lessons in how they could stay safe and be street smart.

TEAM BUILDING
In an effort to foster camaraderie and teamwork among our Year 9 students, we organized an exciting team-building event. This engaging day allowed our students to step outside their comfort zones, work together, and develop important life skills in a fun and dynamic environment. From challenging obstacle courses to collaborative problem-solving activities, our Year 9 students had a blast while learning the value of cooperation and communication. We are proud of their enthusiasm and the positive spirit they brought to this event, which undoubtedly contributes to their personal growth and development.
VALUES WEEK READATHON
We are pleased to share that money raised by the War and Peace readathon, held during Values Week in June, has been used to purchase storybooks and other educational resources for the girls at the New Dawn African Girl prayer and rescue centre in Isiolo, Kenya.
Thank you for your support!!

This Week
This weekend we celebrate the Feast of St Therese of Lisieux - our school patron, so we gathered together as a whole school - Prep and Senior combined - for our Feast Day Mass. As we entered the hall in procession, the youngest (Year 3) and oldest (Sixth Form) students in the school once again recreated the school’s mosaic image of St Therese. At the beginning of our celebration, Year 7 gave us an overview of the life of St Therese, recognising that she is one of the very first saints whose life was documented in the new technology of photography. Throughout our celebration we recalled ‘The Little Way’ of St Therese, as she reminds us to recognise and then act upon the demands of love that present themselves to us throughout the day - not great acts, but small, seemingly insignificant sacrifices, kindness and gestures that, in time, mould us to become the person God has created us to be. This can be summarised in the beautiful phrase,‘Do small things with great love.’ It was a wonderful celebration and we are particularly grateful to Fr Stephen, a great friend to the school, for leading our liturgy. Together we pray: St Therese, pray for us!

We hope that you have had a good week.
Mr T has settled in well, but do be aware he can be a bit nibbly if you want to say hello! Cookie arrived safely on Monday and has been snoozing down in the bottom stables with King keeping her company. She is very sweet and friendly, and will be moved up to the barn in the next week.
As the weather has been very unpredictable in recent weeks, please can you make sure your child comes dressed appropriately to their lessons. Please pack a jumper and waterproof coat. Hoodies should not be worn, and if they are we will ask to tuck the hoods in before being around the horses.
And if your child cannot attend one of their lessons, then please let the office know by phone or by email, or the lesson can be cancelled on the booking site. If you wish to cancel a lesson, we do require 48hrs notice or more in order to offer credit.
Topic of the week: the Dentist
It is very important for a horse to have healthy teeth. Horses over the age of 5 should be checked by the dentist at least once a year, and if your horse is under 5 they should be checked every 4 or 5 months. A few signs that your horse needs the dentist are head tossing, weight loss, spilling food, drooling and spooking.
DID YOU KNOW?
You can tell the age of your horse by looking at their teeth!
~ Libby C
We wish the team and individuals the best of luck at their next competition!
