Feast Day of St.Thérèse of Lisieux

On Tuesday we celebrated the Feast Day of St. Thérèse of Lisieux, the Little Flower, our Patron Saint. The highlight of the day was the celebration of Mass, where the entire school community came together, and we were delighted to welcome local parishioners who joined us afterward for tea and cake.

SIXTH FORM NEWS

I hope you have had a lovely week.

This week the A-level mathematicians put their skills to the test by taking part in the Senior Maths Challenge. They tackled 25 complex questions with a problem-solving format.

On Thursday, the Year 13’s gave tours to the Year 6 pupils around the Senior School. The event started with an assembly given by Dr McShane, and two speeches, one given by the previous Head Girl of the Prep School, Lainey H, and the current Deputy Head Girl of the Senior School, Amelia S-M, informing the Year 6s of all the fun and excitement that is ahead for them. In pairs, the Year 13s then toured the pupils and their parents around the school, giving them insight into what life is like here.

Self-defence lessons on Fridays have continued, with students in both years gaining valuable skills and resources to protect ourselves and one another. Enrichment for this week consisted of a yoga session or taking a peaceful walk around the lovely grounds.

Year 13 have also been continuing with their UCAS applications, with the first few now being submitted. Congratulations!

I hope you have a lovely weekend, Amelia S-M (Deputy Head Girl)

JUNIOR PUBLIC SPEAKING CLUB

On Tuesday 2nd October, 2 teams from our Junior Public Speaking Club competed in an InterTrust event against Cranmore and Manor House. In the words of the judging panel: all teams showed 'courage, confidence and certainty' as they presented their chosen motions in a really entertaining and engaging way. St Teresa's Team 1 debated the motion: Punishment in Schools Does Not Work and St Teresa's Team 2 debated: Binge-watching is Harmful to Our Health.

All speakers represented the school very impressively and demonstrated outstanding team spirit. The winning team was Manor House with their insightful debate on: Electric Vehicles are the only Road to Take. We thoroughly enjoyed hosting and welcoming the schools in our Trust and congratulations to our very strong teams comprised of: Florence M, Alana E, Bella VS, Hollie P, Chloe S and Eva S.

In aid of National Poetry Day on Thursday 3rd October, the English Department would like to share a poem with you by Evangelina P.

“You, Me, Coffee and Tea,”

“You want some?” He said smiling. No, beaming at me.

“Well, I’ll see.” I wasn’t really sure what I would get, but, neither did he.

I walked into the shop, the smell of cake and cream waving at my nose.

It was beckoning me closer.

“Seems like you like the shop huh?” He said, laughing. He was such a joker!

He paced back and forth, twiddling his thumbs this way and that.

It sort of looked like a silly dance! I joined in, taking off my hat.

Up and down, left and right. I felt free and at ease!

He looked up at me with a treat in his hand and tried to feed me the delicious snack, “Have some!”

I snatched it from him and glared, he wasn’t my mum.

I bit into the treat,

It felt like bombs of colour were released in my mouth!

It was amazing! I could taste every bit of it and- ooh! Was that blueberry?

I looked up from my seat, feeling merry.

I turned and looked around… where was everybody?

The once bustling shop turned into a deserted wasteland. I sat down again sadly.

All that sat in front of me was a cup of coffee. It was his cup of coffee.

I turned my head slowly outside; why was our time together so short?

I remember a time where we used to ask each other,“You, Me? Coffee and Tea?”

Now if someone asks me that same question.

All I am able to say is “No.” Because no cup of tea is complete without his cup of coffee.

YEAR 7 ENRICHMENT LESSON

As part of our Life Skills enrichment sessions, our Year 7 pupils have been diving into the mechanics of how a car works. This week, they learned practical skills like how to check oil levels and where to add windshield washer fluid an especially valuable lesson with the rainy season upon us!

ONE OCEAN TEAM V3NTURE FLAG COMPETITION

The challenge is to design a flag that will be held up by Team Ventura after rowing across the Atlantic Ocean! The team consists of army veterans that are undertaking the Talisker challenge, rowing a distance of 3000 miles from San Sebastian to Antigua, and they want One Ocean students to design a flag that will wait for them at the finish line. The deadline is 7 October 2024 and drop your designs with Mrs Menzies.

BOARDING NEWS

Welcome back to another fabulous week in boarding! We have had an exciting time filled with creative activities and memorable experiences.

This week, we delved into the world of ceramic painting, and it was a true delight! Over the weekend, we took the girls to choose their very own ceramic pieces, allowing them to unleash their imaginations as they painted unique designs. It was inspiring to see their creativity come to life, and the results were absolutely wonderful!

In addition to our artistic endeavours, we also enjoyed a scenic walk to the local coffee van, where the girls enjoyed delicious hot chocolate against a stunning backdrop. The combination of warm drinks and a beautiful view made for a perfect outing, creating cherished memories.

Throughout the week, the girls also engaged in various games, including our favourite "Dress to Impress." It was fantastic to witness their competitive spirit, all while showcasing excellent sportsmanship. The laughter and camaraderie among the girls truly highlighted the sense of community we cherish in our boarding house.

As we look forward to more fun-filled activities in the coming days, we can’t wait to create even more wonderful memories together!

NSEA News by Lucy

I am very happy to share that the school equestrian team was out competing again at the weekend and had some fantastic firsts as well as results:

Firstly, for the first time ever, we had enough riders to make up a dressage team; Claudia B, Electra B and Lilly S all rode lovely dressage tests to get placed as a team in 4th place and Lilly as an Individual in 6th place. What a wonderful start for them and a fantastic position to build

Secondly, we had new riders out competing for the first time who all got placed in their classes!! Fenella B (3rd in the 60cm), Lyla B (3 70cm) and Sophia S (4th in the 70cm) did an amazing job and qualified for the Grass Roots Regional Finals as well as the Grassroots Championships at Hickstead in August.

Please do join me in sharing in their successes!!

This Week

Bible Reading

A reading from the first letter of St Paul to the Thessalonians:

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil. May God himself, the God of peace, make you holy, through and through.

Reflection

We have reflected on the lives of the saints and been reminded that our happiness is to be found in Holiness. This week we celebrated the lives of St Teresa of Lisieux and St Francis of Assisi. Two different people living in different places and times but both uniquely close to God. Both shone out with the love of God.

Prayer

Most High, Glorious God, enlighten the darkness of our minds.

Give us a right faith, a firm hope and a perfect charity, so that we may always and in all things act according toYour Holy Will.Amen.
