Thank you to our outgoing Head Girl Team and we look forward to announcing our new Team next week.
BOARDING NEWS The Boarders have enjoyed another weekend of fun when we visited Chinatown in London. The girls loved hearing facts about London as we drove slowly through. On arrival the girls screeched with excitement as the whole town was decorated with Chinese lanterns. The girls had a great time, enjoying the food and seeing street dancers performing. We returned home exhausted from all the walking around the sights and eating so many new delicacies. We also celebrated the Chinese New Year on Tuesday 1st February - the year of the Tiger. Thank you, Harrison’s for the catering : the King Prawn Spring Rolls and the Tempura vegetables were a hit! As a tradition the girls were given red envelopes with money - edible sweet money of course! The girls loved the sentiment. Next weekend we will be going to Brighton to see the Royal Pavilion we can't wait! Mrs Wragg Deputy Head of Boarding
DRAMA NEWS Year 8 have been performing their own interpretations of the three witches from Macbeth. The girls have been experimenting with the lighting and the sound equipment in the studios along with their own costumes and props to create an eerie and mysterious atmosphere.

Y11 into SIXTH FORM Last Friday after two nearly two weeks of mock exams, the Year 11s spent the day in the Sixth Form attending taster subject sessions and utilising the Sixth Form areas. The girls attended sessions on Psychology, Business Studies, Economics as well as other activities such as careers and further education. They then ended the day with a session on learning to play the ukulele, which proved very enjoyable, or yoga or mindfulness. A nice end to a busy couple of weeks. Mrs T Pearson Head of Year 11
ST TERESA’S WEEKLY QUIZ ACCUMULATOR With just under 150 of the St Teresa’s community having participated, the competition in the quiz leagues is furious. Dominic have crept up to 3.43 to stay ahead in the House League but second place has switched to Francis (obviously destined to be the best house in the long run). Worth everyone noting that Dominic are definitely helped by having more girls entering than any other House. In the Year Group Lead, Year 10 have stormed in from nowhere to knock Year 13 off the top spot. They have achieved the excellent average of 3.38. So here are your six questions for Week 4. Answer as many as you can by end of school (4:15pm) on Wednesday next week. Good Luck, Mr Neate
EASTER MUSIC COURSE 2022! This year’s course will take place from Monday 11th to Thursday 14th April. This will be the 10th anniversary of this course at school directed by Mrs Yalden. The course is open to girls and boys from Year 3-Year 9 from all schools who have passed Grade 1 on their instrument. Please email Mrs Yalden on: c.yalden@st-teresas.com for further information.
MEDSOC TRIP TO THE OLD OPERATING THEATRE This week we had the opportunity to go to the Old Operating Theatre in London on a MedSoc trip. It was a great experience and we learnt about how medicine and operations have evolved over the past 200 years. We were able to have a tour of the museum after having a demonstration of how operations were carried out in the actual theatre they took place in during the 18th century. A fun fact we learnt was that the quickest leg amputation was 27 seconds! Sophie (Year 11)
SIXTH FORM NEWS On Monday, I carried out an enrichment session alongside my EPQ titled ‘The Future of Flying’ where I showed clips from the film Sully, including the landing on the River Hudson in January 2009, and spoke about the possibilities of flying in the future, calling an Uber and a plane turning up to fly you across the traffic on the road. It was enjoyed by the sixth form girls who came and I enjoyed presenting something I am passionate about to others and enlightening them on possibilities for the future. On Thursday we had the last of the Year 12 leadership assembly presented by Nikki, Pippa and Kirsten about the language of bees; they spoke about scientific aspects of their behaviour and ways of communication between hives of bees. We learnt that bees use a circle dance to alert other bees that food is near and the direction and distance of this food. The Sixth Form students and staff have thoroughly enjoyed the leadership assemblies from the candidates this half term, and we wish the best of luck to all student leadership applicants. Exciting update about our Sixth Form Ball this week. The Ball committee went to visit the first of 3 venues on Thursday to have a look around! We are visiting another two venues early next week, before presenting to the Sixth Form in our assembly when they will vote for their favourite. On Friday the Year 12 and Year 13 students studying art and design: photography, textiles and fine art went on a trip to Brighton pavilion, the museum and pier to extend their knowledge and start a new project. After spending the day in Brighton they are planning to finish the day off with pizza at a local restaurant. Good luck to all of the 2022/23 Head Girl applicants who are presenting their speeches to the whole school on Monday morning before the whole school vote. Imogen L

This Week In Chapel this week we continued our half-termly series looking at the close links between Faith and Science—and busting the myth that there is any divide. As we this week celebrated the Feast of the Presentation in the Temple, when we remember Jesus, the Light of the World, entering the Temple and being recognised by Simeon, the theme this half-term was ‘Light.’ We have more in common with Isaac Newton that we perhaps realise. It was during the lockdown between 1665 and 1667 that he famously was at his most creative. Newton, a devout Christian, is remembered, among many other things, for describing how white light is made up of different colours. He used a prism to demonstrate this. He probably wasn’t the first.. Francis Grimaldi, a leading scientist of his day, and a Catholic priest, had already published similar work, and he died in 1663! Another Catholic priest, René Just Haüy, is know as the Father of Crystallography. He developed Newton and Grimaldi’s ideas and was able to work out the atomic structure of crystals based on the diffraction patterns light produced as it passed through the substance. Sr Miriam Michael Stimson developed these ideas further. This Catholic nun was not only one of the first women to study at the Sorbonne, but she also developed new methods in the field of spectroscopy that supported cracking the structure of DNA.
This led the way for much of the lab work completed by Rosalind Franklin, another person of faith, this time Jewish, who, most now agreed, deserved to share the Nobel Prize along with Crick and Watson. Was the fact that she was a woman the reason she is so often overlooked? We see that once again that people of faith are at the forefront of scientific endeavour. Let no one spin you the myth about a divide between Faith and Science!
