ST IGNATIUS HOUSE, INTER-HOUSE ARTS COMPETITION This week in House Assembly, St Ignatius house were shown various examples of art work which symbolised bravery. This is part of the up-and-coming Inter-House Art Competition which will be judged during Values Week. Students were then asked to sketch out their ideas for artworks which could be made. Ideas so far have included paintings, animations, sketches, photography and ceramics. We will look forward to seeing the final results. I am sure the House will come up with some interesting ideas. Mr Stephens, Head of St Ignatius House
INTER-HOUSE ARTS COMPETITION On Tuesday morning during house assemblies the girls participated in an art activity to get their creative juices flowing ahead of the Inter House Art Competition early next term. With the aim to create a piece of art which represented the theme bravery, in St Francis, Art Captain Charlotte R organised the girls into groups of 4-5 and gave them a bag full of art supplies. With only 15 minutes to make their masterpieces they worked feverishly cutting and sticking until the very last moment. The winners were Nirvana M, Francesca B, Zoe W and Harriet L who created a friendly but fierce lion which represented bravery wonderfully. St Ignatius House were shown various examples of art works which symbolised bravery and students were then asked to sketch out their ideas for artworks which could be made. Ideas so far have included paintings, animations, sketches, photography and ceramics.
In St Benedict House assembly this week we got physical with bravery, creating freezeframe statues to explore the concept of bravery. Leah G and Klara W, our Art Captains, organised and led the activity superbly! Entries for the Inter House Art Competition are now open and close on Monday 13th June with results announced on Friday 17th June ahead of Values Week where the masterpieces will be on display. With every piece of artwork entered being worth at least one house point, we hope to have an influx of submissions and look forward to seeing everything the girls create!

YEAR 7 LODGE HILL RESIDENTIAL Year 7 had a fun residential outing to Lodge Hill Activity Centre on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 May. The girls enjoyed a wide range of activities and new experiences. The campfire and toasted marshmallows were a particular highlight. Memories will have been created, while friendships have been formed and strengthened. The girls will have gained confidence by going beyond their comfort zone with climbing and abseiling. There were a lot of very tired but smiling faces on Friday evening!

NOTICES: SPORTS RELAUNCH We would like to invite you to a presentation evening which will set out the school’s new vision for sport at St Teresa’s on Wednesday 15 June in Henderson Hall, St Teresa’s Prep School at 19.30. Following a comprehensive review from Chris Harrison School Sport Consultancy and the appointment of Mr Paul Hodgson as the Executive Director of Sport for Effingham Trust, an exciting new sports programme is going to be launched this September. We believe that this will dramatically improve the sporting provision for each and every girl at the school, providing them with a comprehensive range of sporting opportunities. If you would like to attend please complete this form.
YEAR 8 MOVING TO YEAR 9 I am excited to let you know that we have several new girls joining the year group in September. Therefore, to ensure we maintain small class sizes, Year 8 will be moving from four forms to five forms for Year 9. Moving forms around is always exciting, but occasionally it makes the girls (and parents) apprehensive. We will run lots of teambuilding and supportive activities to ensure the new classes settle, and that the girls get to know each other quickly. The new forms will be announced at the end of term. Thank you so much in advance for all your support and encouragement, and for supporting your daughter to manage this change smoothly. Wishing you and your daughters a restful half term. Miss Stephanie Gibson, Head of Year 8
YEAR 8 SUMMER TRIP, FRIDAY 1 JULY 2022 To celebrate the year, the whole of Year 8 have been invited to attend the Sutton Life Centre, followed by an afternoon taking part in the ‘Nuts Challenge’ in Dorking, on Friday 1 July. At the Sutton Life Centre, the girls will experience the ‘Life Skills Zone’- Europe’s first super classroom. It is part movie set, part learning experience. The Life Skills Tours teach the girls about citizenship, personal safety, and the environment, using the latest cinematic technology. Giant projection screens, powerful surround sound, evocative lighting and interactive elements all combine to create an immersive learning environment like no other. We will then have lunch at the Centre, before travelling to Dorking for the ‘Nuts Challenge’ Here the girls will encounter mud, a water assault course, climbing, crawling and challenging obstacles all the way round. This should be a fun afternoon where the girls will get to demonstrate teamwork, communication, and cooperation with their peers. Please return the consent form to Miss Gibson by Friday 10th June.
YEAR 11 SUMMER BALL The Year 11 Ball will take place at St Teresa’s on Friday 1 July 2022. The event will start at 7:00pm and end at 9:30pm.
YEARS 12 & 13 ART,TEXTILES & PHOTOGRAPHY VISIT TO ST IVES, CORNWALL, 25 - 28 NOVEMBER 2022 The Art Department has organised an exciting visit to St Ives, Cornwall, to support Years 12 and 13 with their A Level assignments. The students will benefit in several ways, with the opportunity to gather a wide range of primary source ideas, as well as extending their existing critical knowledge. The studies and experiments carried out will form a vital part of their A Level coursework, supporting ‘Personal Investigations’ and ‘Personal Studies,’ respectively. It is expected that all Sixth Form Art and Design students will attend as part of their course requirements and because Cornwall’s western peninsula is so rich in cultural heritage, possessing great diversity in visual sources for visiting art and design students. Please complete the consent slip and return to Mrs Uren by Friday 3 June.
SIXTH FORM NEWS There was a very exciting start to this week because the Higher Education Event was held by Miss Pitchford, Mrs Randall and Ms Clarke for all the Year 12 students. It began on Monday morning where we started our UCAS Application Form and made long and short lists of our provisional University Course choices. After lunch, there were a selection of different seminars on offer for us to attend. I enjoyed learning about what you can study after your degree. Miss Pitchford led this interesting session, and it was inspiring to hear about what qualifications she achieved after her undergraduate degree and what postgraduate options there are out there to do.
On Tuesday, we started the day with a speaker from Surrey University who gave us a Personal Statement Lecture. She taught us about hints and tips on writing our Personal Statement and differences between an excellent and boring Personal Statement. This was very helpful to begin our day because we then went on to do a Personal Statement Workshop with Miss Pitchford, Mrs Randall and Ms Clarke in the Reading Room. There, we started to write bullet point lists on what should be included and then converted our bullet points into paragraphs. This created a fantastic starting point to writing our Personal Statements. During the afternoon, an Alumni speaker called Grace gave a fantastic talk to us all in the Lecture Theatre, Grace was in the class of 2016 at St T's and it was fascinating to hear her experience studying Architecture at Cardiff University. The art students had a seminar with Grace after the talk; this was especially helpful for the art students in Year 12 as they have a different application pathway that they follow. The marvellous two days ended with a delightful cream tea! The scones were delicious, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the Higher Education Event which provided us with a lot of very useful information about studying after A-Levels. I would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Randall, our Head of Careers, and of course Miss Pitchford and Ms Clarke for also organising this super event! On Thursday lunchtime we had a Whole Team Prefect Meeting with all of the prefects to share what they have all achieved this half term. Some highlights are: our Prep, Lower School and Art Prefect, Charlotte R, has organised the Lower School to make a Union Jack piece of artwork and a crown and petal piece for the Prep School to create for the FOST Summer Ball and Tito, our Boarding Prefect, is organising a Boarders’ Diversity Dinner on 21st of June, which is a lovely celebration after Summer Exams! Well done to all of the Prefects for achieving so much this half term! During Year 12’s Enrichment Session on Thursday, Miss Marsden and Miss Pitchford launched a new Enrichment project that will last 4 enrichment sessions designed to explore politics and the world around us. We all thought about different issues and ideas within society and what we think about them. This was the first of four sessions to prepare before we get to ask a Liberal Democrat Councillor some political questions in a live political surgery. On Friday the FOST Jubilee Fete commenced after school; our prefects helped on the Hair Braiding, Face Painting and Glitter Tattoo stalls. The Head Girl Team ran a Human Fruit Machine which was also very enjoyable and all of the Prefects had lots of fun celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. It was a lovely end to this half term, and I hope you all have a lovely holiday! Emma W (Deputy Head Girl)

This Week On Thursday we celebrated the great Feast of the Ascension of the Lord, remembering forty days after the Resurrection, when Jesus returned to glory to sit at the right hand of His Father. As we celebrated Mass together, joined by the parish community, we reflected on two elements of this event. It was a joy to join together as a whole school community this morning, as part of our Jubilee celebrations, for a Service of Prayer and Thanksgiving to mark the 70th Anniversary of the reign of our monarch, Queen Elizabeth. We reflected on King Solomon’s desire for gift of wisdom, and recalled that the Queen, in her turn, asked for the same. This has resulted in Similarly, we, like the first followers of Jesus, now wait in anticipation for the feast her reign being one characterised by a life of of Pentecost when we, the body of Christ, service. While it is remarkable that she has are inspired and called to continue Christ’s reigned for seventy years, her exemplary life of ministry of love to our world. service is surely a still greater legacy. As we gathered together we joined our voice to that of Cardinal Vincent Nichols as we declared: On the one hand we recalled that Jesus has gone before us to prepare that heavenly place for us. Having humbled himself to come down and participate so fully in our humanity, now he has returned and opened the way to the eternal kingdom of heaven for us.
“Your Majesty, it is an honour and a pleasure to express the great loyalty and gratitude felt by the Catholic community of England and Wales for the outstanding and unstinting service you give to our nation and to people throughout the world”
