BOARDING NEWS A fabulous weekend was spent in Guildford for some last minute goodies before the girls come back to the boarding house to pack for half term. An evening stroll on the hill before bed gave fantastic photo opportunities! The trees looked mystic in the fog. We also transformed our mindfulness room where girls can stay over. Such a lovely calm room. Have a great half term girls!
THERAPY DOG AT ST TERESA’S After half term we will be having a therapy dog visiting regularly; no child will be forced to spend time with him. Our therapy dog will be based in Mrs Cawley’s office and he will also spend time with the counsellors. It has been scientifically proven that spending time with a therapy dog can reduce stress, lower blood pressure and leave the person with a sense of happiness and well-being, increasing mental stimulation, attention skills, self esteem and a feeling of acceptance, increases the level of fitness by providing the motivation to do so, increase the happy hormones like beta-endorphin, beta-phenylethylamine, dopamine, oxytocin, prolactin and serotonin. We look forward to meeting our new visitor.
CISC Christmas Cards—Art Competition We are excited to announce that we are taking part in the CISC Christmas card design competition and we are opening this up to all St Teresa’s girls. The theme this year is: ‘O Holy Night’ We are looking forward to having a bumper year of entries, so please submit your entries by Wednesday 10th November. Your drawings can either be portrait or landscape. Please hand your entries to Reception for the attention of Mrs N Menzies.
SIXTH FORM NEWS The Sixth Form have remained busy right up until the end of this half term. During Thursday lunchtime girls in the Sixth Form spent time decorating the common room with Halloween decorations, a sea of pumpkins and spooky bats and ghosts are now the new members of our Sixth Form! This was all in preparation for our Friday lunchtime Sixth Form Halloween party that we enjoyed today. Organised by our Events Committee the party included a house themed chocolate game, apple bobbing competition and doughnut on a string game. Thank you to the other members of my hard-working Events Committee Ellie (Year 13) and Emma (Year 12) for helping me to organise the Halloween Fun for the Sixth Form this week. We also had the pleasure of welcoming Laura, the founder of WomenInspire on Thursday during our PSHCE lesson where she spoke about how to accept one’s self and be confident in all that we do. We listened to Laura speak about some of her favourite inspirational women including Annie Bassett, Amy Johnson, Noor Inayat Khan, Lily Parr and Wangari Maathai. For more information the website for the company is www.womeninspire.co.uk
Next Half term we have some very exciting events planned including the annual Sixth Form Christmas trip to Somerset House for some ice skating and, Fortnum and Mason hot chocolate afterwards as a treat but, for now, we are looking forward to a nice well deserved half term break to recuperate and come back for the winter term fresh faced and ready to learn. Imogen, Deputy Head Girl The U19s St Teresa’s netball team took part in the Surrey County Netball Tournament at Kingston Grammar School on Wednesday 13 October. The girls had a great day out, where they progressed well throughout the tournament, showing determination and the true sense of Team Spirit through their matches. The team played some great netball maintaining possession of the ball and working hard to win interceptions where possible. Well done girls. Charlotte, Sports Captain

YEAR 10 TRIP TO KEW GARDENS This week, Year 10 GCSE Fine Art, Photography and Textiles students had the opportunity to visit Kew Gardens. After arriving at Kew, we headed to the Palm House, which contained many variations of tropical plant structures, as well as ornate architectural features, for everyone to observe and photograph. After lunch we went to the Princess of Wales Conservatory, which held a variety of complex cacti and succulent plant forms. The trip provided us with the opportunity to collect research, carry out linear drawings, and detailed observational studies. Our individual subject teachers assisted us in selecting the appropriate subject matter to observe and helped us to improve our studies. We all had a fantastic day. Alexandra M Yr 10

YEAR 8 BUSHCAMP TRIP On Wednesday Year 8 took to the wilderness aka Bighat bushcamp in Chertsey. The day started with a trek through the jungle (5 minute walk down an overgrown path). Once the girls had arrived at the campsite they were debriefed on safety for the day and started their bushcamp adventure. The first activity, they learnt a number of ways to cut wood and then proceeded to forage for a variety of wood to help with their fire making. The girls also whittled bamboo sticks for the marshmallows they would later put on the fire. Everyone demonstrated super teamwork skills whilst foraging and enjoyed exploring the site. After they had collected their wood they were shown how to make a fire using cotton wool, vaseline and a flint stick. Our resident firestarter has to go to Katy H for working very hard at ensuring her fire didn’t go out so the girls didn’t go hungry. It was very impressive to see all the girls getting involved through sweat and tears! Whilst some girls were keeping the fires going, others were using their food preparation and nutrition skills to prepare their meal of Pasta Bolognese and a vegetarian option. The highlight of my day had to be watching all of the girls around the fire eating the lunch THEY had made - no complaints, lots of smiles and lots of empty plates! I obviously had to eat two lunches as chief food tester and I can honestly say they were both delicious ! After lunch the girls washed everything up and then it was time for s’mores over the fire. With full stomachs it was then onto shelter building which consisted of a competitive element as all shelters had to be tried and tested to check which group’s shelter was the most water tight. Again, all girls pulled their weight and it was great to see them all working together although if we ever go camping I think I will stick to a tent - sorry girls! All in all, a super day had by all, the girls really did St Teresa's proud and even the instructors commented on how they were the best group of school children they had seen at the camp. I look forward to many more trips with Year 8 in the future, it certainly was character building for them and myself! Miss Gibson
ART TRIP TO THE V&A MUSEUM Last week Years 12 & 13 A Level Fine Art, Photography and Textiles students visited London’s Victoria and Albert Museum. It was a fun packed day and students were inspired by the array of artefacts. This visit was a fantastic opportunity to carry out first-hand observational drawings as well as collecting research. After a quick packed lunch and trip to the café, students were guided to the ‘Bags Inside Out’ exhibition sponsored by Mulberry. This aspect of the museum inspired many students and presented lots of opportunities for everyone. All the A Level students felt extremely fortunate for this opportunity to extend their learning beyond the classroom environment. We would like to say thank you on behalf of everyone who went on the visit, which will form a vital part of our creative art studies. Lucy-Kate & Holly (Yr13)
