Autumn Term
7 JUNE 2021 Issue 1 : 4th September 2020
Dear Parents, I congratulate the girls on various things this week: firstly for remembering to wear full school uniform (which has made a real difference!), secondly to Years 10 and 9 for being so tidy with their PE bags in the courtyard racks, and thirdly to all girls for completing their internal examinations and assessments. It has been an intensive week, but the manner in which the girls have conducted themselves has been spectacular. Next week, of course, is Values Week! No doubt one of the highlights of the school calendar, a smorgasbord of Compassion-related activities will be available for everyone to enjoy. I couldn't possibly rehearse the ins and outs here, but you will find the programme in the bulletin. My huge thanks to Mr O'Farrell, Deacon Simon and Mrs Cawley in particular; to the staff effort, and of course, to our amazing Sixth Form. However, greatest thanks to Lucy-Kate, our Values Prefect - she is a one-woman force of nature! Prize Giving is weighing on my mind, and I appreciate that I have been somewhat silent on this point. I am waiting, however, for Monday's announcement from the PM before making a final decision as to what particular shape this will take - possibly even al fresco! Finally, tomorrow we are welcoming, in strictly controlled groups, prospective parents at our Open Day. Although it will have a very different flavour from normal, our slots have sold out! I do hope that you have a pleasant weekend. Dr Claire McShane
ART WORK OF THE WEEK COMPETITION Our winner of this week’s art competition is Jessica in Year 7. Please do send your entries to n.menzies@st-teresas.com
BOARDING NEWS On Sunday we saw the return of our wellrested Boarders. It was wonderful to hear of their half-term adventures. The girls spent the rest of the afternoon revising before their first exam on Monday. This weekend the girls are going to Covent Garden for the first time this year! They are really looking forward to it.

(Access to the recordings will be available after this date if you are unable to watch them on the day of their release). These theatrical ventures started in September 2020 and the girls have endured the most arduous and unexpected challenges during the pandemic and lockdown. The performance dates have been postponed three times and the casts were finally able to perform in May 2021. We felt that their robust approach, resilience and determination over the past eight months embraced the school values of character, faith, community, intellect and compassion and we felt that Values Week was the perfect time to share their hard work with you. Never before has the phrase 'the show must go on' rung so true. We look forward to welcoming you back to theatre in Mairlot Hall very soon.

TENNIS NEWS On Saturday 29th May some of our tennis girls took part in a She Rallies workshop at ESTA. This initiative was designed by Judy Murray to encourage more girls to join the tennis workforce and was run by the She Rallies ambassador for Surrey, Sophie Cockell. Sophie taught the girls various coaching skills and training tools which they can use as a platform for their Level 1 Coaching Qualification in the future. Two aspects that Sophie particularly focused on was content and ideas for Girls Fun Days and Girls Recreational Competitions.

Not only did we have an incredible half term week with our Pony Days, but we said goodbye to Ellie as she set off to her new home on Friday 4th June. Arnie will also be leaving us at the end of the month to start his new chapter. We are on the lookout for horses to join STE and have a couple in the line up already. However this does mean that horse availability will be even tighter for the second half of the term until we can replace the amazing Ellie and Arnie. We also have three tickets going for a trip to the International Horse Show on Thursday 16th December 2021. Please contact the office to find out pricings if you are interested.

This Week At the beginning of every assembly we light a candle and remember the words of Jesus, that ‘Whenever two or more are gathered together in my name, I will be there with them.’ It is reassuring to know that Jesus is, indeed, always with us. And, in fact, there are many ways that He is with us. Certainly we remember those people, like Mary Magdalene and Thomas, who met Jesus while he lived on earth. They talked with him, ate with him, heard what he preached and saw the awesome things that he did. When we read and recall these events we too come to know Jesus just as they did. In fact, whenever we read the Bible, we recognise that Jesus, the Word of God, is present with us.
Jesus taught us how to love, so whenever we experience real love, we are experiencing the real presence of Jesus. This can be easier with our family and friends, but we are reminded that Jesus is present in every single person that we meet, without exception. We need to welcome them in the same way that we welcome Jesus. Jesus reminds us that this is especially the case with the poor. Jesus is always on the side of those who are poor, neglected or left out. If we want to see the real presence of Jesus, we will always find him in the poor. And finally, and in a particularly special way, we remember that Jesus is present when we celebrate Eucharist. When he said, ‘This is my body, this is my blood.’ he truly meant it. Jesus is truly there. Through this week, let us try to recognise the real presence of Jesus in our lives.
