VALUES WEEK: MONDAY 20 JUNE—FRIDAY 24 JUNE Next week is Values Week! This year, we are celebrating our school value of Character, affirming the uniqueness and worth of each individual member of the school community, while having some fun along the way! There are lots of ways to get involved, be it carrying water the length of Baker Street in aid of our week-long charitable action, taking part in the inspirational women scavenger hunt, visiting iPray in the Chapel, walking as part of the pilgrimage to Guildford or the ramble to Cranmore, or making your own contribution to the school-wide art project. I will be giving out further details at Monday's assembly, so stay tuned! See you all at Breakeoke! Leah G, Values Prefect
VALUES WEEK—GUEST SPEAKERS We have invited two lunchtime guest speakers in next week as part of Values Week. Please let your daughters know about them so they can attend. Monday, 20 June: SFLT @ 1:45pm: Jamie Tinklepaugh, 'Travelling through Words: A Journey of Exploration and Discovery' Jamie was born in London into an Anglo-American family who instilled in him a love of languages and words. His life as an explorer, never a tourist, started when he was just two months old, taking in most of Europe with his family. Jamie was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy as a 10-month-old baby, a condition that affects all four of his limbs. He is a wheelchair user, but this has never been a hindrance to his life or his adventures, which includes worldwide travels, and the publication of his book, 'Wheeling East'. Jamie will share his story of determination and grit with the St Teresa's community on Monday, 20 June at 1:45pm in the Sixth Form Lecture Theatre. Wednesday 22 June, SFLT @ 1:45pm: Douglas Anderson, iDot Engagement Officer, Wildlife Aid Foundation Douglas Anderson is the iDot (I Do One Thing) Engagement Officer for the Wildlife Aid Foundation, a charity founded in 1980 that is dedicated to the rescue, care, and rehabilitation of sick, injured, and orphaned wild animals. Their wildlife hospital in Leatherhead deals with more than 20,000 wildlife emergencies every year. Their aim is to ensure that every patient is returned to the wild once they have recovered. Douglas will discuss the work of the charity, how the iDot scheme works, and what we can all do to support their work. Douglas will present on Wednesday, 22 June at 1:45pm in the Sixth Form Lecture Theatre.
WALK FOR WATER During Values Week from Monday we will be raising funds to support ‘New Dawn African Girl’ – a charity set up by Ms Hobkinson (Head of Geography in the Senior School) to support and improve the life chances of girls living within the rural village of Isiolo, in Kenya. Our aim is to raise at least £1000 to pay for a water pump, solar panels and a water storage tank to help them continue to provide safe accommodation and education for the group of girls they are supporting. Every member of the school community is being asked to donate at least £1 (but there is no limit!!) to support this charity and to then take part in our lunchtime ‘Walk for Water’ activity where we, in solidarity with the girls we are supporting, will transport water along Baker Street during lunchtime. Please can I encourage you to help your daughter to participate fully in this wonderful charitable effort that will make a real difference to the lives of these vulnerable girls. Thank you for your help and support!
OPERA IN HOLLAND PARK On Wednesday 15 June, a group of Year 8 and Year 10 students travelled up to Holland Park, London to watch an Opera called Eugene Onegin. When we arrived and took our seats, we glanced to the left and were overjoyed by the sight of Mr Caister playing his French Horn in the orchestra! The day was unforgettable; all students had an amazing time and a cultural experience that opened our eyes to the world of opera. The singers were so talented and the performance as a whole was captivating. The stand-in singer for Lenski was phenomenal and the actor did exceptionally well, despite not being able to sing. The atmosphere was incredible, with the old seats adding to the overall feel of the era in which the music was based. The scenery surrounding the stage was also beautiful – with the Holland Park gardens in full bloom and perfect weather, which added to the feeling of joy we all experience. Thank you Mr Caister for giving us all this amazing opportunity and congratulations to all your contributions to the orchestra.
On Monday, St Teresa’s EnSoc was delighted to welcome Clare Arnold to speak on Genetic Disease and Gene Therapy. We welcomed girls from all year groups, including academic scholars, and the Year 7 and 8 Cranmore boys. Many thanks to Mrs Arnold for giving up her time, and for sharing her expertise with us all! If any parents or guardians are interested in delivering a session at Enrichment Society, please do get in touch with Mr O’Farrell, on j.ofarrell@st-teresas.com.

LOVE LANGUAGES AT CITY OF LONDON FREEMEN’S SCHOOL On Tuesday 14 June 2022 a group of nine Year 8 girls took part in a language competition called "Love Languages" at City of London Freemen's School. The aim of the competition is to let pupils with a passion for languages perform songs, dances, poetry, plays etc. in a foreign language. Over 120 pupils from Year 5 up to Year 8 from different 13 schools in total took part in this competition. Our school signed up with a play and a song in German and with Ms Corbat's help the girls wrote a story and a script. After only a handful of rehearsals Darcey, Franny, Issy, Khanyi, Felicity, Klara, Eleanor, Abi and Isa managed to show an almost perfect performance and received the judge's choice award. The girls had a lot of fun and Ms Corbat is very proud of their achievement. Gut gemacht!!

SIXTH FORM NEWS Firstly, I would like to say well done to everyone for completing their summer exams last week. I know we all worked very hard and it will be reflected through your results. Before lessons began on Monday morning, Pippa and I organised a surprise breakfast for the Year 12 students after finishing their summer exams. The breakfast consisted of cinnamon buns and delicious juices as a treat! All the girls thoroughly enjoyed this well -deserved start to the week!
On Tuesday, Year 10 Day in the Life event in the Sixth Form Centre commenced. The day began with Miss Pitchford giving a talk about what it is like in the Sixth Form and Ms Clarke, Pippa and I spoke about the many events that are held throughout the year for the sixth formers. The Year 10 girls experienced having Sixth Form style lessons and sampled new subjects such as Psychology, Business, Economics and Politics. They also enjoyed having an Enrichment Session led by Miss Pitchford in the Reading Room. At lunchtime, the Year 12 students joined them for a delicious barbeque on the Sixth Form Lawn.
During Year 12’s Enrichment Session on Thursday afternoon we completed Session 2 of the Politics Project. This was run by Ms Marsden and we developed a greater understanding of the importance of local, regional and national issues. We then came up with questions we will ask Julia McShane, the Guildford Councillor who is coming in to school during our Enrichment Lesson on Thursday next week. On Wednesday and Thursday, the Year 12 Art A Level students had their art examination. The art produced ranged from photography to textiles to fine art; I wish them luck for their results in due course. The Events Committee have been busily planning a Survival Party which will take place on Wednesday 29 June. I hope everyone has a wonderful week and enjoy your weekend! I look forward to updating you on what went on in Values Week next week! Emma W (Deputy Head Girl)

This week we have some very exciting news! We had the NSEA competition on Sunday 12th June. The team representing the school came 4th in the 60cm class! Now they have qualified for the championships! Apart from that all the ponies have been enjoying the sun and lazing around. The pony of the week this week is… Oliver! ~ Libby C
NSEA Results On Sunday 12th June, five riders headed to Felbridge to compete in the show jumping as teams and individuals. In the 70cm and 80cm classes, Lottie B (70cm) and Lilly S (80cm) both rode brilliantly with two double clears! In the grassroot classes, Jess R, Pernille A and Molly M rode as a team in the 50cm and 60cm. Unfortunately they missed out on the placings in the 50cm, but came 4th as a team in the 60cm! Well done to you all!!
This Week Last week we recalled the great outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost when the disciples first received their Mission to ‘go out’ and share the good news of God’s love with the world. There are those who argue that our faith is an internal, private and personal matter. Sadly, this is a mistake. If we keep our faith locked up behind the closed doors of the Upper Rooms of our heart, we will confine and restrict God’s plans for our lives. Instead we are called to throw open the doors and go out to share in the adventures God has in mind for us. And we do this particularly well when we engage in acts of charity where we give of our gifts, talents and abilities for others. We have a great opportunity to do precisely that as part of our charitable project for Values Week next week where we will be supporting New Dawn African Girl, a charity, set up by Ms Hobkinson,, the Senior School Head of Geography, to transform the lives of girls in Kenya. The charity aim is to rescue girls from oppression and give them education and hope for the future. Many of the girls in the town of Isiolo, where the charity is based, face terrible challenges - FGM, forced marriage, being orphaned by HIV/Aids or famine and drought, the dangers of living on the street and grinding poverty.. Despite this, the charity have already transformed the lives of many girls. They have also successfully purchased land, built premises and dug a bore hole. Now they need a pump, solar panels and a water storage tank., and that is where we can help. Next week the whole school community will be asked to make a donation of £1 per litre and to carry the water along Baker Street ( a mere fraction of what the girls in Isiolo are required to do every day). We then hope to raise the £1000 needed to purchase this new equipment. Full details will be sent out in a letter, including how you can donate via our JustGiving site. Thank you for giving generously and for supporting this wonderful charity!
