BOARDING NEWS The boarders enjoyed a coach ride to Camden market on Saturday. They enjoyed walking around the market and trying new foods from all the stalls. It was such a lovely day, the sun was shining and street music was playing. We also watched the river cruises passing by. The day finished with a walk to take photos of the beautiful sunset and, a Uno tournament. On Sunday, the boarding Jubilee party was anticipated with much excitement. Some of the girls had enjoyed making red, white and blue strawberries dipped in chocolate and Miss Charlotte decorated the dining room in bunting to match. Catering did an amazing job, producing sandwiches and cakes for our cream tea and a good time was had by all the girls and staff. Following the cream tea many of the girls went out to play 'Texas' Tennis on the courts.
This evening, some of the boarders enjoyed cooking dishes from their own countries with our Head Chef, Gary, for our Boarders’ International Supper. On the menu were Mapu Tofu (China), Molletes and Salsa (Mexico) Tacos (Spain and Mexico), Jollof rice and chicken (Nigeria) and Uzbek soup (Uzbekistan). There was a fantastic atmosphere in the dining room and the food was very much enjoyed by all the boarders.
VALUES WEEK ART PROJECT As part of Values Week, students from both the Prep and Senior Schools had the opportunity to embark on an exciting Art project that encompassed this year’s central value of ‘character’. Working onto a variety of wooden disks, labels and letters, as well as considering key terms that can define one’s character, all students approached this project with great enthusiasm. This collaborative installation now forms a central feature within the Chapel – well done to all students involved, the overall installation is fantastic! Art Department
VALUES WEEK: YEARS 7 & 8 WALK TO CRANMORE On Thursday morning Year 7 and Year 8 set out on their Values Week walk with Cranmore. The St T's Year 7 students were bussed down to Cranmore first thing to begin their walk; the Year 8 students prepared to start their walk up on the St T's hill and then the 8 kilometre walk began! The students spent the morning wandering through the Surrey Hills enjoying the scenery with a brief stop for 'Breakeoke'; a Values Week tradition at St T's. As always, the girls did not disappoint and took part in Breakeoke with gusto, introducing the Cranmore Years 7 and 8 students to this Values Week celebration event with a lot of enthusiasm and willingness to have some fun singing at break time. The day finished with a BBQ lunch at both schools for the Years 7 and 8 students, along with an afternoon of activities for all the Years 7 and 8 students and staff to get involved in. Everyone had a wonderful day bringing together our two schools for this special event! Nikki, Senior Prefect: EST Partnership
Eco Tips of the Week: During Values Week we had Wildlife Aid come in and talk to us about iDot – which stands for I Do One Thing – which aims to encourage a gradual, sustained, behavioural change throughout the population. It can be embraced by any people, in any country; it takes a holistic approach to repairing the damage done to wildlife and the wider environment.

The tour will include 3 concerts and we will have the use of a coach for the duration of the visit. As usual we will have a packed itinerary. We will stay in a 4-star hotel near Taormina. From there we can visit Mount Etna, plus have a boat trip and explore the archaeological sites at Syracuse and experience the amazing history of the area. No doubt, there will be shopping time as well, and masses of fabulous Sicilian ice cream! All girls from Year 8 upwards in September 2022 are eligible to join the Choir and the tour.
SIXTH FORM NEWS This week has been our annual Values Week! Each day one of our school values themed activities were held at break times and lunch times. These activities ranged from 'breakeoke' to a house dance competition to raising money for a charity in Africa. During Whole School Assembly on Monday Morning, Leah Greeno (Values Prefect) explained all of the activities that were on offer; daily assemblies continued throughout the week with a different member of staff joining Leah's assembly every day to talk about an inspirational person who is an example of our school values: Community, Compassion, Intellect, Faith and Character. It was a wonderful week and was enjoyed by everyone. On Thursday, as part of our Values Week activities, girls from Years 9, 10 and 12 went on a Pilgrimage to Guildford Cathedral. It consisted of walking a scenic 19km to the Cathedral, whereupon we had a tour around the Cathedral and learnt about it’s history and uses today. I really enjoyed this challenging yet thoroughly enjoyable experience and it was lovely to get to know girls better in different year groups. In Year 12’s Careers Lesson on Monday we listened to a guest speaker from the Flight Training Agency. He gave us an insight into the qualities a pilot requires and how to train to be a pilot. It was very fascinating to have an understanding of this job. It focused on becoming a commercial pilot and how this job is a specialist pathway. It is always interesting to hear about different job roles in our Careers lessons, thank you to Mrs Randall for organising our Careers Programme. On Thursday, the current Year 12 girls wrote to the new Year 12 students who are joining us in September. The welcoming cards are a wonderful gesture that start a line of communication between the current and future Sixth Form students, before they meet face to face in September. This was a lovely way for the incoming Year 12 students to receive some friendly words from their Sixth Form peers next year and our Year 12 students were very happy to take part.
This term in Year 12 Enrichment lessons students have been working with the Politics Project to learn more about British politics, particularly at a local level. The girls explored their own political ideas by considering current affairs and issues which divide society. They then spent some time looking into Councillor Julia McShane’s political career and her role on Guildford Local Council prior to their Digital Surgery. Digital Surgeries address a key issue that defines our democratic system today; the breakdown in the relationship between young people and politicians. The Politics Project programme aims to transform the way that young people and politicians interact. Their goal is simple – they want every young person during their time at school to have a meaningful, informed interaction with their local, regional or national representatives. During the Digital Surgery, the girls asked a wide variety of questions ranging from environmental policies to the cost of living crisis. Julia McShane also asked some of her own questions in return which challenged the girls to consider whether 16-17 year olds should have the vote and what they learnt about themselves during lockdown. The girls found the experience interesting and enjoyed hearing about how involved Julia is in her local community. Miss Marsden Lastly, I wanted to celebrate the news that Year 13s finished their A-Level exams this week! Well done to all the Year 13 girls and enjoy a restful holiday! Emma W (Deputy Head Girl)
