SIXTH FORM NEWS This term as we enter into Autumn and see the leaves change from green to orange to brown we have launched the Autumn Term edition of the student magazine. The magazine committee believe it is extremely important to have contributions from the whole school community, so we have set up 3 competitions which are centred around the theme of Autumn for every year group to take part in. School Magazine Art Competition: We are looking for girls to submit any artwork they have created either in art classes, their own original pieces or photographs that they are proud of taking around the autumn theme. To submit competition entries please scan your work or take a clear picture and send it to student.magazine@st-teresas.com School Magazine Short Story Writing Competition: Another competition running is a short story for creative writers around autumn which must not exceed 500 words. To submit competition entries please scan your work or take a clear picture and send it to student.magazine@st-teresas.com School Magazine Reviews Competition: We also aim to include a section of reviews on inspiring books, films and music to be able to provide suggestions for other students. This entails sending a short paragraph to the Microsoft form below detailing what you enjoyed about your choice and a sentence or two of background information. https://forms.office.com/r/csb4P1RD5u The deadline for all of the competitions above is the 26th November 2021. We look forward to reading and viewing your amazing pieces of work. Imogen L, Deputy Head Girl

Y10 GCSE Dance Against all odds, the girls managed to pull off a fantastic performance at the Young Dancemaker’s platform in the Rhoda McGaw theatre in Woking. I am so proud of the girls for working together as a team to rehearse the choreography, communicate so proactively and remotely with myself and perform so beautifully and with such confidence in front of a huge audience.
Enrichment Society and the World Scholars Club continues each Thursday at 4:30pm in the Sixth Form Lecture Theatre. This week, Miss Marsden presented on whether politics need to change in the UK. This was the first of a two-part session led by Miss Marsden. Part one looked at the voting system in the UK (First Past the Post) and understanding that it doesn’t always reflect the views of the majority of the voters. Research suggests that younger voters are not disengaged from politics but feel under-represented by our current politicians. Those who attended completed a quiz online which gave an idea of political views and submitted our results online. The results show that if we had been voting in a general election, the Green Party would have won - this presents a conundrum for those in charge; is it right for people’s views to be ignored because the voting system is outdated? Part two of Miss Marsden’s presentation will take place on Thursday 2 December.
The schedule for this half term is printed here. As always, girls from all years are welcome to attend. A reminder that Academic Scholars from years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 12 are requested to attend a minimum of 3 Enrichment sessions each term. If any parents, guardians, or other family members, are interested in delivering a talk at Enrichment Society during the year, please email Mr O’Farrell on j.ofarrell@st-teresas.com. All areas of interest and expertise are welcome!
Eco Tips of the week : Each week we will share with you a tip to be more sustainable, this week we are sharing an initiative that sees crisp packets made into survival blankets. Did you know it takes 80 years for a crisp packet to decompose? Did you know that 150 of them can be ironed together and turned into a survival blanket for a homeless person and will help to keep their sleeping bag dry and insulated?
If you have any empty crisp packets please send your washed packets to 37 Marley’s way, Frome, Somerset! Ba113ng. Thank you

NSEA Competition Reports On the afternoon of Friday 12th November, girls from the NSEA and their ponies and parents travelled to Keysoe for the Championship Plate to compete in show jumping. The Friday held the warm up classes where we had two riding in the 70cm and three riding in the 80cm classes. It was a good start to the weekend! On the Saturday was the Championship classes! We had two teams competing in the 70cm class, the Navy team – Lottie, Lulu and Sofie, and the Green team – Antonia, Chloe and Inde. The Green team did great with two clear rounds, and came in 3rd place overall and Lulu placed 7th as an individual! Then the Navy team also did well with three clear rounds and the team placed 2nd overall! This meant that both teams were headed to the second round! In the second round, there were four teams in total and two of those were from St Teresa’s! Everyone rode brilliantly and the Green team came 4th and the Navy team held their place in 3rd, with Lulu placing 7th as an individual! In the 80cm class, the Pink team – Antonia, Chloe and Lulu – were the only team to represent St Teresa’s. The girls did a super job! The team came 6th in the first round on one clear and two four faults, with Antonia coming 1st as an individual! Then onto the second round, they all rode even better to have a final team placing of 3rd place and Antonia keeping the top spot of 1st place! Congratulations to everyone who went to ride and those who supported them!
This Week We are making a particular feature this year of our house patron saints. This week we turned our attention to St Ignatius of Loyola, the famous 16th Century Spanish saint. We focused on three key features of his work.
Firstly, we recalled that while he had a promising career as a soldier before him, a sever injury - by a cannonball no less - mean that Ignatius spent an enforced year recovering, during which time he read, reflected, prayed, wrote and began to recognise his call to be a warrior for Christ. His experience reminds us that however painful an experience, we are always encouraged to see such events as possible opportunities where God is providing for us an opening to a new direction. Ignatius, along with a group of similarly minded friends, founded the Society of Jesus, now known by their more popular name as the Jesuits. We were reminded that God rarely calls us to work in isolation. God calls us to be community, and to act as community. It is reassuring that the way we remember St Ignatius, along with our other patrons, is through our House system that encourages this sense of acting together as a community. And finally, we recalled that St Ignatius, through his writings and Spiritual Exercises, encourages us to enter wholehearted into God’s Word - the Scriptures - by engaging imaginatively. We had an experience of this in Chapel as we reflected on the account (John 8:2-11) where Jesus is confronted with a mob who are intent on stoning a woman to death. In a short reflection, we prayerfully focused on the faces of each group in the account—the angry crowd of self-appointed judges, the terrified woman, and, Jesus, who with words of wisdom, challenges the mob to recognise their won sin and, in a model of compassion, welcomes and exhorts the woman. May St Ignatius continue to encourage and inspire us in our journey through life.
Thank you to all those who contributed to our shoe box appeal. We collected 96 boxes that, together with the Prep School brought our total to 209 boxes.
