BOARDING NEWS On Saturday, the boarders had an early brunch, then took part in Sports Day. They then went into Guildford for a spot of shopping. On Sunday, the girls headed to church and then enjoyed the afternoon playing basketball. This week we have welcomed some Year 6 girls to do a taster session in Boarding - They really enjoyed their stay. They ate lots of food and played card games. In the morning they loved the fact they could just wake up, eat breakfast then walk to school! If your daughter is interested in doing a taster night in boarding, please do contact Mrs Gautier on t.gautier@st-teresas.com. She will be happy to help. (Limited nights available, depending on demand). Next weekend is our last of the school year. We will be saying a lot of goodbyes. So, to make it more memorable we have booked a fun packed weekend - Air hop, ABBA Theatre show and Glamping! Mrs Zoe Wragg Deputy Head of Boarding

BUMPER ACCUMULATOR ROLLOVER JACKPOT QUIZ OF THE YEAR Just when you thought it was safe to hang up your quizzing socks until September the quiz fairies have been beavering away to bring you….

THE BUMPER QUIZ OF THE YEAR At this moment everything hangs in the balance and with a massive 50 general knowledge questions it is distinctly possible for any House, Year Group or Individual to be crowned "St Teresa's Genius 2022". Yes indeed, it could be you! Here is your link https://forms.office.com/r/AxdAKtatWE As ever - good luck. Answers must be in by close of play next Wednesday in time for announcement of the champions before the end of term. Mr Neate

MATHS During our values week, Year 7 prepared and took over a Mathematics lesson. It was an invaluable experience for the girls and here is what one of the Year 7 students said… “I absolutely loved becoming a teacher for 20 minutes. My main highlights were helping doing the registration as I enjoyed calling out everyone’s names. Of course, I made sure that everyone called me ‘Miss G.’ Although I did truly enjoy teaching, I now understand how hard it is to be a teacher. So, after this experience it has made me appreciate much more how much work/effort our teachers put into our lessons so that we can learn and enjoy our lessons.” Gabriella G Year 7 On Tuesday the 14th of June, Set 1 in Maths went to Cranmore to do a Maths challenge. We left school at 1:45, and got to Cranmore just before 2:15. We went on minibuses. We were put in to St Teresa’s pairs and then placed with another pair from Cranmore. One of the teams was called Firework. There were a few sections of the challenge. The first was where we needed to walk around the room, and see the pieces of paper the teachers had stuck on the wall, on chairs and in various other places. They all had four pictures on them, and one square with letters in it. All of the pictures related to the same thing, and the letters made up the thing. We had to try and guess what the thing was. We were not allowed to leave our tables unattended, so while two or three people went to look at the pictures around the room, at least one would stay and work on the question sheet. Another activity was the group quiz. The group quiz was a bunch of challenging questions that we all had to answer together as a group. The last activity was the chain solvers. In the chain solver, we had to work out the first question in order to be able to work out the second and so on. This was quite tough because if you had got the first one wrong, then all of them would be wrong. I think that the chain solver was the toughest out of all of the activities because it had very complicated questions and if you got one wrong, then all of the ones after that would be wrong as well so it was very easy to mess up on that activity. My favourite part was the brownies and being there with my friends. I enjoyed working in group and using teamwork with my teammates. I think this event was great fun, and a good idea. Even though my team didn’t come first, it was lots of fun, and I would like to do it again.

NIGHTJAR WALKS recommended by Mrs Cawley The walks take place in the Surrey Hills area of outstanding natural beauty not far from Leith Hill and Holmbury Hill. Each session starts at 8pm and finishes around 11pm. Each session is priced at £25 per person and children under 16 are free of charge. A large portion of the proceeds goes to conservation charities such as the RSPB, The Wildlife Trust, Butterfly Conservation, British Dragonfly Society, Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust and Bumblebee Conservation Trust. I recommend having warm clothes to hand as temperatures can fall quickly once night comes in. It's also a good idea to have a lotion type insect repellent available should the need arise.

Eco Tips of the Week: When we are back in September we will be having a sale of stationery and books so if you have anything you would like to donate please let us know.

Sicily Choir Trip

Following 12 years of successful Senior Choir tours to Umbria, Florence, Venice,Vienna, Paris, Lake Garda and Barcelona, Athens and Malta, the 2022 Choir tour will be re-visiting the magical and beautiful island of Sicily! The tour will include 3 concerts and we will have the use of a coach for the duration of the visit. As usual we will have a packed itinerary. We will stay in a 4-star hotel near Taormina. From there we can visit Mount Etna, plus have a boat trip and explore the archaeological sites at Syracuse and experience the amazing history of the area. No doubt, there will be shopping time as well, and masses of fabulous Sicilian ice cream! All girls from Year 8 upwards in September 2022 are eligible to join the Choir and the tour.

SIXTH FORM NEWS On Monday morning, myself, Pippa, Charlotte and the Student Council Representatives presented our whole school assembly. The Student Council Representatives from each year group told the rest of the school about what they have achieved in their weekly Student Council meetings this term. The Student Council is a student body with two representatives from each year group who think of ideas and solutions to make St T’s an even better school! In Year 12’s Careers lesson on Monday morning, Mrs Randall led the lesson, and we all did an activity to help us to see the differences between courses in different universities. We completed a table where we wrote down the University and the modules studied for your chosen course. This was very useful and added to making decisions for our short list of University options. On Wednesday the Events Committee organised a survival party for Year 12 as a treat after finishing their Summer Exams. We all enjoyed playing games together, a piñata and a delicious barbeque lunch. Everyone found the piñatas great fun, and it was a fantastic activity where the whole of Year 12 were able to get involved. After the games, Gary and the catering team presented us with a delicious barbeque. I would like to say thank you very much to Harrison’s for making such a delicious lunch, especially the chocolate brownies and strawberries for dessert! I would also like to say thank you and well done to Miss Pitchford, Pippa and Klara who helped to organise this event.

In Year 12’s enrichment lesson on Thursday, we discussed the recent US Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade. This was very interesting, and we all had an interesting discussion on different ideas and issues around this important case. On Friday, the Sixth Form invited the Year 7 students for breakfast in the Sixth Form Centre. The Year 7 girls thoroughly enjoyed talking to the Year 12 girls and chatting about various topics. Everyone had delicious pastries and it was fantastic for the lower school to integrate with the older girls.

NSEA News We are wishing the team that were at Hickstead on Friday the best of luck!!

This Week It was a joy for us on Wednesday to join together with the whole school community, along with parishioners from our local parish, to celebrate the Solemnity of St Peter and St Paul. Huge thanks go to all those who contributed to our celebration. Neither Peter nor Paul, at the beginning of their accounts, fit into the usual pattern of what we imagine a follower of Christ to be like. Simon was given the nickname Peter by Jesus at the moment Jesus chose him to be the leader of the apostles and the first Pope. Peter (although ‘Rocky’ is perhaps a better translation!) was to be the foundation stone upon which the Church was to be built. God often ‘chooses wonky tools to draw His straight lines’ and Peter was no exception. His enthusiastic outbursts pepper the scriptures as do his all to evident faults, even to the point of betraying his friendship with Jesus. Yet he was chosen and, after Pentecost, became the exemplary apostles, who, after a life of mission, travelled to Rome, the centre of the world, to spread the good news of God’s love for all people and where he died a martyr’s death. Paul, or Saul, to use his Hebrew name, had an still more ignominious start. As the most ardent persecutor of the early followers of Jesus, he had Stephen, the first martyr, put to death. Only after his Damascus Road experience did he slowly come to faith. Again, with an unmatched courage, he travelled to Asia Minor establishing Church communities wherever he landed. Nothing could prevent him from sharing that same Gospel message. If we ever doubt that God would choose someone like us, we have only to look at the example of Peter and Paul, those two great pillars of the Church who left their old lives behind and found the fullness of joy and peace in the vocation that Jesus had chosen for them. We pray that we, like them, would pursue our vocation, whatever it may be.
