June Sports News An incredible number of pupils have represented Cranmore playing in sport fixtures this term. There have been over 200 cricket matches, 80 plus pupils have played tennis against opposing schools, and the golf squad have been taking part in local tournaments. Six House Sports Days took place this year instead of the normal two, with pupils participating within their Year groups. Pupils trained and prepared very well for the events allowing for some superb races to unfold. The commitment, effort and sporting values shown by every pupil was brilliant. It was also fantastic to have parents in attendance to spectate and it certainly added to the spectacle. Thank you to Mrs Attree, Miss Moore and the rest of the department for organising these memorable occasions. All Year groups’ House scores were added together to have an overall winner. Congratulations to Radford who are the 2021 House Sports Day winners! Throughout the cricket season there were some great performances from all age groups. Notable highlights were our 1 st XI vs Whitgift, the U11s tournament win at Thomas’s, U10s vs St George’s, U10 girls vs Manor House and St Teresa’s, U9s vs Downsend and U8s vs Donhead. Also, the U11s had a great run in The Surrey Cup. With our mantra being ‘Sport for all’, it was superb to be able to put out 26 teams across all age groups. A big thank you to Mr Down for planning and leading our fantastic cricket season. Following on from our excellent cricket season, it is great that our Effingham Cricket Development Centre (ECDC) will be running again throughout the autumn and winter months. Using our amazing Sports Hall and indoor cricket nets, the evening and Saturday morning coaching sessions will help to develop any aspiring cricketers. Cranmore June Sports News Continued from page 1…… Jackson B in Year 5 was again part of the Effingham Trust Equestrian Team. The NSEA show jumping event was held at Felbridge, Sussex. The team participated in the 60cm and 70cm categories. Jackson performed very well with double clears helping the team to win both classes, qualifying them for the Regional Finals at the end of the year. Jackson has had a great season and I am pleased to say that he has been awarded best NSEA Grassroots Rider for this school year. Well done, Jackson. Through our curriculum and co-curricular programme, it is great that there is a huge variety of activities that take place including over 25 different sports. Year 6 & 7 had the opportunity to try out orienteering which used many different areas on our fantastic school grounds. The event included shuttle races whilst getting familiar with the different map symbols, smaller races which included map reading to coordinate different routes through a cone course, then, finally, the big pairs race across the whole school. There are many Sport Camps taking place at Cranmore this summer. Cranmore Lower Prep Sports News– June Lower Prep June Newsletter This month we have seen even more sport in the Lower Prep department. All year groups were working hard in their athletics lessons in preparation for their sports days. We also had even more U8 matches and every pupil bowled, batted and fielded very well, so a huge well done to all of those pupils involved. In our games lessons this month, the main focus has still been on cricket. We have had lots of match play and we have been working on running between the wickets. We have seen a huge improvement in each year group’s cricket and the enthusiasm for the sport continues. In our PE lessons this month, the pupils have been doing athletics and tennis. In athletics we have been going over how to maintain a good speed over a longer distance and how to react quickly when the teacher says ‘GO’ to start a race. In tennis we have been focusing on our stance when waiting for the ball and also our forearm. All pupils have thoroughly enjoyed
playing tennis as it is a new sport for them to master and they have all enjoyed learning something new. We have also had our sports days this month, which are always exciting events. In the Lower Prep school, the pupils showed determination and excitement - and gave lots of encouragement to their peers! We were blown away at how the pupils performed in every event; there were some amazing throws, some very big jumps and some very speedy running. A big well done to every pupil in the Lower Prep school for their attitude and their focus during lessons to prepare for sports day. Over the past academic year, we have covered football, rugby, swimming, netball, cricket, tennis, athletics, gymnastics and dance. We have had a fantastic year and we have covered lots of sport and fixtures. Have a great summer and we look forward to carrying on with even more sport in September. Ms Moore
