SPORTS NEWS From Director of Sport Paul Hodgson May Sports News The first half of the Summer term has been a very busy period , with over 100 cricket fixtures played to date. Additionally, more than 70 pupils have represented Cranmore in tennis matches against opposing schools and members of the golf squad have taken part in local golf tournaments. The inconsistent British weather has meant that some Games lessons have taken place indoors, but our amazing five cricket nets and superb bowling machines have meant the skills sessions have been great for individual skill development. This time of year has meant that the older pupils participate in golf as part of the PE lessons, and our Henderson Fields and 9hole golf course provide a great sport facility for the pupils to develop their talents. Jackson B competed with the Effingham Trust Equestrian team in the ‘Eventers Challenge’ at Coombelands. The team did superbly well and ended up finishing in first place. The timetabled weekly swimming lessons are still a highlight for many pupils; more than 50 pupils are swim squad members and have been attending swimming training each week. This bodes

well for Cranmore next term when galas and competitions return. The weekly Chelsea Pre-Development Centre has now been running for several weeks at Cranmore with around 40 of the most talented local football players attending. Similarly, the Effingham Hockey Development Centre (EHDC) has been taking place on Wednesday evenings with ever more players attending weekly (docjuniorswhc@gmail.com). The Effingham Cricket Development Centre (ECDC) will also return next term.

Finally, ESTA 1-to-1 and small group tennis lessons have been popular, taking place two evenings a week on our fantastic tennis courts (esta@effinghamschools.org).

Cranmore Lower Prep Sports News– May Lower Prep Sport Newsletter – May In Lower Prep this month, we have had a packed timetable of sport, including our first cricket matches with our Under 8s. In the past few weeks, from Reception to Year 3, we have been focusing on our cricket. The pupils have been making sure they have a straight arm when bowling and that they are accurately aiming the ball towards the wickets. Our U8s, have had some superb matches over the past few weeks and we have seen some amazing cricket across all teams. The U8s had very good teamwork and they all supported each other very well throughout their games. A big well done to our U8s. In our PE lessons this half term we have had a big focus on Athletics. Each year group has been able to have a taste of long jump, throwing, sprinting, long distance running, relays and obstacle courses. The pupils were particularly excited to use the long jump pit- so they could jump into the sand! We have worked on reactions, sprint starts and also on jumping off one foot and landing with two in long jump. All pupils have

done really well and these lessons will gear them up for their year group Sports Day next half term, which we are very excited for. Our extra-curricular clubs are going extremely well and even though there has been lots of rain this half term, this has not dampened the pupil’s spirits. There has been some great football with Chelsea football, some great tennis and cricket with our professional coaches. Our internal clubs, rounders and athletics have been very good and of course boogie dance with Miss Gallop on a Friday lunchtime has been very well received by the pupils! We cannot wait for next half term where there will be lots of sport happening. Of course, we cannot forget our year group Sports Days will be taking place and in the PE department we are very excited for these to go ahead. Finally, let us hope we have beautiful sunshine next half term as I think we have had enough rain for one half term.
