Our focus this week was on remembrance and the nobility of those sacrificing themselves for others. Throughout the Prep and Senior schools there were some stirring assemblies with poetry from Brooke, Owen and McCrae reminding us of the human cost of war and the sacrifice that others have made to secure our freedom. We prayed for our peace, our armed forces and those in conflict. We appreciated that we may not be able to change the outcome of what may seem like distant wars, but within our own sphere of influence, each of us can show kindness and compassion towards others.
Huge congratulations to the CPA, and all the parents and staff, who contributed to the overwhelmingly successful Cranmore Fireworks last weekend. Thankfully, the weather was kind to us and ensured we were all relatively dry, if a bit muddy! It was a wonderful display and a delight to see such a strong community presence on the night.
I would like to thank all those who contributed to the fundraising of £1,071 for Action in Africa and for your support for the Romanian Shoebox Appeal. I know the generous gifts will be greatly appreciated by children at Christmas time.
We had the wonderful news this week that the Cranmore U11s have made it through to the Surrey Cup Final after beating Micklefield School 5 4. Cranmore now have both the U11s and U13s in the Surrey Cup Final which is the first time in our school's history. Finally, the very best of luck to all the pupils taking part in the Henkes Shield tomorrow. This event against Rokeby started in 1983 and has always been a terrific end to the football season.
Message from the HeadmasterArt Department News
complex structure of plant forms. They were tasked to keep their pen on the paper and their eyes on the plant until they had finished! Many were pleasantly surprised by their outcomes. They have begun to work these into their drawing using mark making inspired by the dynamic sketchbooks of Helen Wells.
Seb G (5FS) took it upon himself to independently create a very advanced piece of layered, abstract artwork this week. He explains what it means here:
This picture reminds me of a storm in a back garden because everything is wild and the background is gloomy. I used acrylic paint and markers, oil pastels, general markers and ink. It took me two days to complete.

This week, Year 4 learnt about different cakes which are eaten in France, Spain and Germany. They were also lucky enough to make some French Madeleines with a hint of lemon. Legend has it that a young girl called Madeleine, stood in as pastry chef to the Duke of Lorraine, Stanislas Leszczyński, and the only thing she knew how to make was her grandmother's recipe. Everyone loved them, and the 'Madeleine' was born.

Upper Prep School Council News Mrs Sanders Our Upper Prep School Council reps have been appointed and are ready for action. They are excited to start working together. Watch this space for more news Mrs SpoonerIn English Year 2 pupils have been learning about imperative/ bossy verbs. To fit in with our topic, China, the children wrote instructions using bossy verbs to make Chinese lanterns and as a result they were able to follow the instructions written and make their own lanterns which turned out beautifully.
As always, Year 2 had a wonderful time at Forest School last Thursday. We started the lesson by looking at all the different mushrooms that have started growing on Henderson Fields. There were mushrooms that were as big as our faces, mushrooms that looked like turtle shells and mushrooms in the shape of a bowl. During our session, some students made sculptures using clay and others went on a scavenger hunt for different, autumn leaves. In the coming weeks, students are going to use these leaves to make lanterns, which links nicely to our geography unit, China.
Mrs James, Mrs Carpenter and Mrs Stefano Year 2 enjoy making Chinese Lanterns and visiting Forest SchoolNursery and Reception News
The Nursery children were very excited to tell us all about their exciting experience at the Cranmore Fireworks event. They have really enjoyed creating firework pictures using mixed media for our display. At Forest School this week the children really enjoyed searching for different mini beasts and using the binoculars and bug magnifiers to have a closer examination! Some of the girls participated in imaginary play and had a lovely time manipulating the playdough to make cookies and cakes for baking. The children have been learning about Remembrance and engaged in a lovely craft activity making their own poppies, which enabled them to practise their scissor skills.
Ms Luke, Head of NurseryThis week in Reception we have really enjoyed using the ‘2 paint’ program in ICT. We used the paint tool to shade in woodland animals. We had to focus so hard and click at the right time. Super job children!
Fireworks in Year 1
On Friday last week, the children in 1CG created fireworks in DT. They made them themselves from tubes with elastic bands for propulsion. Then they went and tested them outside. They had a lot of fun!
