Message from the Head of Prep

Upper Prep began their week with a wonderful assembly with Mr Peach. In PSHE, the children have been celebrating our differences and now they move on to thinking about dreams and goals. Mr Peach introduced their new topic and explained the importance of perseverance, especially when working towards their goals. They were reminded that it is common to seek a quick reward but to achieve great things they would need to keep persevering even when times were tough.

Well done to our new Lower Prep and Upper Prep House Captains and Vice Captains. It was a pleasure to present them with their badges in assembly and I am sure they will enjoy the responsibility that comes with the role. Thank you again to everyone for their support in avoiding movement around the Sports Hall for the duration of mocks. Please remember that these arrangements will remain in place for one more week.

School Council meetings take place over the coming weeks and I look forward to hearing our councillors share the ideas from their classes. The creativity of the children never fails to disappoint and we will see how their input can help to shape our school.

The children had a special treat at Forest School this week: they went on a Wassailing walk. This is a twelfth night tradition practised throughout Britain in areas where there are fruit orchards in particular. This tradition was performed in times when a good harvest was needed and essential for survival. The session finished with warm apple juice and toast on the fire.

In RE this week, the children listened to the story of The Good Samaritan. They talked about the importance of helping each other and being kind to everyone. At the end of their learning they had fun recapping the story using the sequencing cards.

The children have been enjoying mark making in the tuff trays, using their fingers in snow to copy the patterns on their cards.

Year 1 News

Year 1 practised following step-by-step instructions to make a jam sandwich, which we later enjoyed eating. It was delicious!

We discovered how important it is to put the instructions in the correct order; otherwise, things can get pretty messy!

This Week’s House Cup Winners

Congratulations to Borelli House in the Lower Prep and Stokes House in the Upper Prep who gained the highest number of merits this week!

All age groups, from U8s to U11s, have been in action this week. Both Year 4 and Year 6 played against Downsend. From nine matches, Cranmore won seven and drew two. U9s also played against Parkside and Kings College Junior School on Thursday. This afternoon, our U10s played against Parkside with our U10A team playing in the Shrewsbury House tournament tomorrow.

This Week

This week we focus on the Baptism of Jesus.

A reading from the Gospel of Matthew

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptised by John. But John tried to deter him, saying,“I need to be baptised by you, and do you come to me?”

Jesus replied,“Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfil all righteousness.” Then John consented.

As soon as Jesus was baptised, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said,“This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

The story of Jesus reminds us that each of us has a divine vocation or calling. May the Lord reveal His calling to each of you.
