Message from the Headmaster

Throughout the week, we helped raise awareness during Anti Bullying Week of the importance of supporting others and those in need. On Friday, we continued with this theme as pupils and staff took part in Odd Socks Day and made donations to the Anti Bullying Alliance. I would also like to thank all those families who contributed to the Shoe Box Appeal in support of such a worthy cause.

The Effingham Reading Challenge 2022 23 for pupils which is running across Cranmore and St Teresa’s has begun. There are a number of fascinating books to choose from and I know pupils will be captivated with the stories; we look forward to finding out which book will be the overall winner.

I would like to congratulate all the Cranmore pupils who took part in the Henkes Shield on Saturday. It was another competitive spectacle and I am delighted that we have managed to tip the balance of successful victories in our favour. Another notable success was achieved by the Cranmore U9 and U11 ski teams which competed at the Surrey Championships. There were some outstanding individual performances with the teams winning gold in their category. Well done to everyone involved. The Cranmore ski squad

Year 4 History

4FH have been learning about how the Ancient Egyptians made papyrus paper from the papyrus plant, by cutting the stem into thin strips, soaking the strips in water and then interleaving them. We have had great fun making

Year 4 students have studied the work of Vincent Van Gogh in more detail, learning about his life as an mark making artist and the time he spent in France when his mental health was in decline. They have been copying his painting ‘The Garden at Arles’ in oil pastel, learning to apply mark making to explore his process. Developing a sense of understanding how Van Gogh could portray texture, mood and the weather encompasses our school value of ‘Intellect’ which we are reflecting on this term.

Ms Hart Mrs Sanders

We are pleased to announce the Effingham Reading Challenge 2022 23 which is running across Cranmore and St Teresa’s for pupils in Year 4 upwards. We have selected five fantastic books all of which have been released over the last year. Pupils can read three of the books for a Bronze certificate, four for a Silver certificate and five for a Gold certificate. Pupils who would like to take part should go and see Mrs Watkinson in the Cranmore library or Mrs Clarke in the St Teresa’s library. We look forward to finding out which book will be the overall winner!

Reception News

Reception

Year 1 went to Forest School and had a fabulous time! They went on a bug hunt and made tree mobiles. Then they had some lovely, warm hot chocolate and a biscuit. Mrs Bowen and Mrs Green Year 1’s visit to Forest School pupils have been working so hard this week on making and writing of CVC words. We were so pleased with how much effort the children put in, really focusing on their cursive handwriting. Some of the children got to show Miss Gallop and she was very impressed. Well done, children! Miss Hurl and Mrs Prothero

It is National Nursery Rhyme week and the Pre Nursery children have really enjoyed joining in with different nursery rhymes and engaging in various art activities, making spiders and sheep, and baking current buns! The Nursery children had a fun time at Forest School: they made their own pizzas and cooked them on the camp fire. They experienced some lovely sensory play with baked beans in the tuff tray, describing what they could feel and smell. In French this week they continued to learn about colours and participated in a collage activity. The sound of the week is ‘g’ and they bought in some lovely items from home for show and tell. The children have been working very hard with their pencil control skills, learning to write their names.

Ms Thank you for the incredibly generous donations that we received for our Christmas Shoebox Appeal. Members of the Chaplaincy Team have helped to sort through the boxes and they have now been passed on, in readiness for delivery to Romania. Mr Heaver

Anti-bullying Week

For Anti bullying Week, in Year 1 we have been thinking of ways to ‘Choose Kindness’. As part of this, the children chose to write letters home to their families to say thank you for all the wonderful things they do. We hope parents enjoy receiving their special mail in the post!

being and who we can reach out to if we see this behaviour. In a follow up lesson, we produced posters in groups to raise awareness about Anti bullying Week and the power of reaching out.

Year 3 Forest School Outing

Year 3 were very grateful for a break in the rain and made the best of the opportunity at Forest school. They made tortilla wraps with their choice of fillings on the fire and found all sorts of fun things to do on the site.

Sports Roundup

Cranmore wins the Henkes Shield!

On Saturday, the 37th Henkes Shield took place with Cranmore taking the spoils with 5.5 points to Rokeby’s 2.5. This included 5 wins and a draw from the 8 matches. The triumph this year means that Cranmore have now overtaken Rokeby with 19 wins to 18. This is the first time Cranmore have been in the lead for over a decade.

On Sunday, the Surrey Schools Skiing Championships took place at Aldershot. Many individuals from our Ski Squad took part in this prestigious event. Cranmore had a very successful day with our U14s coming second, and both our U9s and U11s coming first. (Photograph on front cover).

This week saw the start of our rugby season. The excitement and enthusiasm have been very obvious for this change of core sports. On Wednesday, we were very fortunate to have Dorking’s RFC Director of Rugby, Armand Roux and Head of S&C Daniel Mackenzie to help with our U11s and U14s. The pupils gained so much from the visiting coaches that we will be sure to invite them back again soon.

Year 6 Games

On Saturday afternoon Cranmore pupils took part in the Biathlon Regional Qualifiers in Bracknell. All competitors did extremely well and we are now waiting to hear which individuals and teams qualify for the next stage.

Sports Roundup

We wish both our U11 and U13 football teams the very best of luck in their respective Surrey Cups.

Thought for the week:

Christ the King

Is it service or applause that matters to you?

Christ the King

O Lord our God, You alone are the Most Holy King. Forgive us, O Sovereign King, our sins against you.

Jesus, You are a King of Mercy. Have mercy on us, Lord, and forgive us. Amen.

POPE FRANCIS - REFLECTION ON CHRIST THE KING

Let us reflect on this: in front of Pilate, Christ says he is a king at the moment in which the crowd is against him; but when the crowd was following and acclaiming him, he remained distant from this acclamation. That is, Jesus is showing that he is sovereignly free from the desire of earthly fame and glory. And we let us ask ourselves do we know how to imitate him in this aspect? Do we know how to govern our tendency to be continuously sought after and approved, or do we do everything to be esteemed by others? So, I ask: what matters? Is it applause or service that matters about what we do, particularly concerning our Christian commitment?

Let us Pray: Our Father Hail Mary

1 minute silence

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
