Prep Chronicle 16 January 2023

Our focus this week in assembly was on Christian unity. We recognised that we are all different, with unique skills, talents and life experiences, and that we should share them with each other. The key to a thriving environment is how we come together and use our wisdom and gifts to enhance and support our community to make it even better.

The Pied Piper Theatre Company visited Cranmore on Wednesday to help inspire the younger pupils with live performing arts. The pupils were treated to a wonderful performance of Burglar Bill. Although the cold weather impacted on a number of school fixtures with frozen pitches, we were fortunate that our indoor and outdoor facilities enabled the pupils to stay active. Let’s hope for some warmer weather in the coming days and a return to normality.

One future date for the diary, which was shared by our CPA, is 25th March when we will be hosting the Cranmore Ball. It promises to be a fantastic evening celebrating our 55th year and I look forward to seeing many of you there. Thank you to the CPA for their hard work in planning for this exciting future event.

Pied Piper Theatre Company Visit to Lower Prep

On Wednesday, Lower Prep were delighted to welcome back the Pied Piper Theatre Company. The children were enthralled by the production of ‘Burglar Bill’, inspired by Janet and Allan Ahlberg's beautiful picture book. The sounds of laughter emanating from the Auditorium were a delight to hear. The children were immersed in the story and the fun characters were brought to life on stage with an exciting set design, puppets, and original music and songs. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to experience a real theatre company and I know the visit will be inspiring lots of creative writing. Miss Gallop

Reception News

To start the week, Reception had a fabulous session with Ellie at Forest School. The children investigated what was in the ice balloons and wondered how long it would take them to melt. The children also searched for signs of winter using binoculars. So much fun was had by all!

Sports Update

Despite the vast amount of rain last Saturday, Cranmore still managed to host several fixtures. Many schools in the area had to cancel matches due to waterlogged pitches, but our amazing Henderson Fields remained playable. Thank you to our grounds staff who look after our pitches so impeccably and to the sports staff for making it a very positive sporting experience for the pupils, in spite of the challenging weather. In terms of the matches that took place, our U10 teams had some great rugby matches against Kings House.

The frost this week has meant that several fixtures have been postponed. However, Games lessons have continued as normal using all of our brilliant facilities. It has been a great opportunity to develop skills in our core sports, whilst participating in a variety of other activities.

Our U9s have managed two fixture blocks against Downsend and Rokeby showcasing some excellent rugby skills and determined performances.

Thought for the week:

Unity

How will you do good?

Prayer for Christian Unity

Lord Jesus, who prayed that we might all be one, we pray to you for the unity of Christians, according to your will, according to your means. May your Spirit enable us to experience the suffering caused by division, to see our sin and to hope beyond all hope. Amen.

REFLECTION

This is the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. We take time to pray for deeper unity between all Christians. We also reflect on the life of Stephen Lawrence, as we seek to build a world free from prejudice and full of hope. Pope Francis invites Christians to continue to journey together “in seeking God boldly” and to “keep our gaze ever fixed on Christ,” while remaining “close to one another in prayer.”

Let us Pray: Our Father Hail Mary 1 minute silence

“We are making this journey not as those who already possess God, but as those who continue to seek Him.”

Pope Francis

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
