Message from the Headmaster

At the start of this week, Year 4 enjoyed taking part in a variety of activities on their residential trip to Dorset. They will no doubt need a well-earned rest this weekend. Congratulations to the U10 Tennis team, who finished runners-up in the Surrey Schools U10 league.

Reception and Year 1 participated in an interactive drama workshop. They were taken on an adventure to Neverland to help Peter Pan recover his treasure from Capitan Hook. In our School Reception area, we have a wonderful display of artwork by our youngest pupils. After they studied the artist Kandinsky, they painted their own impressive interpretation of his Concentric Circles.

The whole school celebrated Founder’s Day Mass in the Sports Hall this Thursday. Our musicians played wonderfully, and it was joyous to hear superb singing by our choirs in front of pupils, parents, staff and governors. Cranmore pupils also joined in a celebration last Thursday at Arundel Cathedral with Catholic schools from across the Diocese. I look forward to seeing the Crancampers on the Henderson Fields on Saturday and next week, we will have an abundance of activities including Moving Up Day, Sports Days and Prize Giving.

I hope you have an enjoyable weekend.

Year 4 Residential to New Barn, Dorset

Year 4 had an exciting residential trip to New Barn in Dorset. They took part in a variety of activities which taught them what life was like during the Iron Age, including grinding wheat to make flour and stirring milk to make butter!

Cranmore pupils joined in a celebration last Thursday at Arundel Cathedral with Catholic schools from across the Diocese. It was a wonderful occasion and the boys certainly represented Cranmore well. Daniel M (6WL) delivered our chosen sheep to the bishop. It was a good opportunity for some of our Chaplaincy Team boys to meet with the Chaplaincy Team at St Teresa’s.

Cookery Club

The pupils in Cookery Club have enjoyed making delicious sweet and savoury items this term including pizzas, rocky road, cheese scones, fruit crumble and sausage rolls. I hope they will enjoy making these recipes again at home for their family and friends to enjoy. Thank you to 6CP for requesting this club through the School Council.

Mrs Spooner

Reception and Year 1 participated in an interactive drama workshop this week with Perform. They were taken on an adventure to Neverland where they helped Peter Pan recover his treasure from Capitan Hook!

Nursery News

The Nursery children enjoyed their yoga session this week, following the instructions and were even able to do ‘partner poses.’ The children were asked what they would like their role play area to be and they chose a building site which has led to some lovely imaginary play. In French the children learnt to ask for an ice-cream and were lucky to have real ice-cream for a tasty treat!

Lower Prep Drama Workshop

In Year 2 we have been learning about extreme weather in geography. The children loved learning about blizzards, hurricanes and droughts. They were set challenges in small groups to design and make the strongest sledge that would not sink into the snow, design a house that could withstand a hurricane and create a poster encouraging people to save water in a drought. The children loved working together and testing out their creations.

Reception News

Reception had a wonderful session with Ellie at Forest School. We made spinners out of ‘wood cookies’ that we sensibly sawed with Ellie and decorated carefully. What a creative session we had!

Year
Miss Hurl and Mrs Prothero

It was wonderful to invite Mr Caister (French horn teacher) to join us in Upper Prep assembly on Monday. Cranmore is always looking for pupils to take lessons on orchestral instruments and, in particular, brass instruments. Mr Caister played some popular melodies to the staff and boys on his horn and spoke to them about this fine instrument. Any boys who would like a taster session on the French horn with Mr Caister, should approach Mr Harris before the end of term.

Congratulations to our pupils who performed so fabulously in the Grange Park opera production of Tosca last weekend!

Sport Update

Congratulations to the U10 Tennis team who finished runners-up in the Surrey Schools U10 league. They played in a nail-biting final which went down to a Championship tie break, in which they narrowly lost. Well done, boys. Please see the front cover for the photo.

In swimming lessons for the last two weeks the pupils have covered their personal survival topic, learning basic rescue techniques and safety around water.

Cricket matches took place against Feltonfleet, KCS Wimbledon, Rokeby and Parkside this week.

Thought for the week:

Message from our Chaplaincy Team

St Peter & St Paul

How will you live out your faith?

We pray together...

Saints Peter and Paul, Please pray for us and help us obtain the strength to stand up for what is right and good.

Amen.

REFLECTION

On 29th June, the Church celebrates the feast day of two great saints, Saint Peter and Saint Paul. On this day, we celebrate their memory. At the heart of their story is not their own gifts and abilities; at the centre is the encounter with Christ that changed their lives.

Let us Pray:

Our Father

Hail Mary

1 minute silence

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

“Peter and Paul bequeath to us the image of a Church entrusted to our hands, yet guided by the Lord with fidelity and tender love, for it is he who guides the Church.”
