Finally there seems to be a sense of spring in the air and the evenings are growing lighter. We marked the start of Lent with a special Ash Wednesday service for all of Prep and Father Charles was once again blown away by the children’s singing. Their rendition of ‘Longing for Light’ was particularly impressive. Our musicians have been working hard and many children have been busy today with their ABRSM exams. We look forward to hearing about their results in due course.
Thank you to everyone involved in making our Book Week celebrations so special. An enormous amount of work goes into organising the various author visits, book-themed quizzes, lesson activities and an incredible World Book Day menu for lunch. I know that the talks by our visiting authors, Sophy Henn and Steve Cole, were particularly popular. Thanks must also go to our families for the amazing costumes that the children wore today.
This morning, Mr Everitt and I were able to meet with the CPA for their AGM. Thank you to those who play such an important part in our school community in running this organisation. It was lovely to be able to spend time with them and we are already excited about next Friday’s CPA Quiz which I am sure will be another fantastic evening.

Book Week: Sophy Henn Author Visit to Lower Prep
On Monday, the author Sophy Henn delighted pupils from Nursery to Year 2 with a series of interactive sessions during which she read from a number of books which she has written and demonstrated how she creates her own illustrations.
Pupils were invited to draw their own characters and learnt about the creative process of writing and designing a book. Pupils were engaged throughout and their love of books was reignited as we celebrate Book Week as a school.
Book Week: Steve Cole Author Visit to Year 3 and Upper Prep
On Tuesday, Years 3 to 6 were treated to energetic and thoroughly entertaining presentations by Steve Cole, author of over 200 books, including the Astrosaurs series, Dr Who novels and collaborations with astronaut Tim Peake.
Steve encouraged the pupils to use their imaginations and write their ideas down. He even played some songs he had written on the ukelele and the pupils enthusiastically joined in.
Primary Maths Bonus Challenge
Students successfully answered a variety of multiple choice mathematics problems in the Primary Maths Challenge and those students scoring 20 or above out of 25 marks participated in the PMC Bonus Round, which took place during the week beginning 3rd February 2025.
Three students from Cranmore were awarded the following certificates and lapel badges:
• Hugo P received a Silver certificate
• Fabian H received a Bronze certificate
• Nico V-J received a Participation certificate
Each student enjoyed taking part in the challenge and most importantly, it showed them that maths can be fun. The Maths Department is extremely proud of each student’s success.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team
This Week
A Reading from St Paul’s letter to the Ephesians
Never have grudges against others, or lose your temper, or raise your voice to anybody, or call each other names, or allow any sort of spitefulness. Be friends with one another, and kind, forgiving each other as readily as God forgave you in Christ. Try, then, to imitate God as children of his that he loves and follow Christ, loving as he loved you.
Reflection
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, we had our service this week. For many, our first reaction when we hear Lent is to ask, ‘What are you giving up?’ with the usual answer being sweets, chocolate, cake and other treats. This is often the way we introduce the idea to young children, but perhaps, as we grow, our understanding of Lent should also grow.
During Lent we are asked to do three things, to and to give. We are encouraged to reflect with deep honesty about three possible areas of our lives where we could focus our hearts and minds this Lent.
By focusing in this way we can make sure that we use this season of Lent to leave behind that which hinders us, and to work towards becoming the people we are called to be. Have a good Lent!
Prayer
Lord,
as we begin this holy season of Lent, may we turn back to you with all our hearts, in prayer, in fasting, and in giving alms to the poor; that our sins be forgiven and our hearts mended.
Amen
