Message from the Headmaster

This week we prepared diligently for what would be another exceptionally busy Open Morning which saw a record number of visitors attend the school. Our guests were suitably wowed by the incredible facilities, friendly staff and exceptionally talented pupils. The older students were excellent at guiding prospective parents around the school, and the guests were enormously impressed with the politeness and maturity of the boys. Thank you to the CPA for their help and support; it was a wonderful event that showcased Cranmore at its very best.

A special mention to the Cranmore pupils who took part in the Surrey Tennis tournaments last week. The boys did brilliantly by winning the event, it was an outstanding effort and I extend my congratulations on their success. Well done also to the pupils who have qualified for the IAPS swimming finals in individual and relay events. The competition will take place at the London Aquatic Centre in June and we wish them the very best of luck.

Year 1 enjoyed a visit to see the horses in the Equestrian Centre at St Teresa’s and Year 3 continued their cricket fixtures this week with the year group playing in eight teams against two different schools.

Looking forward, do save the date of 1st July as we will be hosting the very popular annual Crancamp. Thank you to the CPA for once again organising this event for the whole Cranmore community.

Open Day

We were delighted to welcome so many families to our Open Morning today. The pupils led tours around the School, popping in to engaging lessons and seeing matches being played.

Upper Prep Coronation Celebrations

On Friday 5th May, the whole school celebrated the coronation of King Charles III with a variety of activities during their lessons, our cake competition and sale at break time, and a themed lunch.

During their English lessons, pupils in Year 6 produced some beautiful cards containing messages or poems for the King. We have sent these off to Buckingham Palace in the hope of receiving some correspondence in return.

Year 2 Learning about Food Rations

As part of our unit on World War II, this week the Year 2 pupils learnt about food rations. They measured the different amounts of food and discussed whether or not that would be enough for a whole week. Overall, the pupils decided that rationing might be adequate as long as they planned their meals and did not always put butter on bread. Students also sampled a ration recipe from World War II for eggless sponge cake.

Coronation Cake Competition and Sale

Congratulations to the winners of the Coronation Cake Competition. The quality of the entries was so high that it was exceptionally difficult to choose, but the following cakes stood out. The following pupils received their prizes in assembly this week.

Reception Jennifer G (RLP)

Year 1 Leo A (1CG)

Year 2 Imogen H (2CJ)

Year 3 Colson F (3RF) and Thomas C (3CS)

Year 4 Elliott W (4AV)

Year 5 Jasper H (5MP) and Landon D (5CD)

Year 6 Sebie T (6EF)

Coronation Celebrations in Nursery and Lower Prep

To celebrate the coronation of King Charles III, Year 2 had their own coronation concert. The concert started with the national anthem and then teachers began the proceedings with a rendition of Green, Green Grass. Jonty was a fabulous host with lots of jokes. Some pupils were sound technicians and played intro music that students had composed in their computing lesson. Pupils chose to perform poetry, jokes, songs and gymnastics. It was a wonderful celebration which made everyone feel very excited to watch the other coronation concert that took place in Windsor last weekend.

Nursery and Reception enjoyed going on parade with their coronation crowns.

Music News

Well done to Jason S in 2JC for winning his category at the Redhill & Reigate Music and Drama Festival. He played London Bells on the piano with fantastic dynamics and musical character.

Year 1’s Visit to the Horses at St Teresa’s

The Year 1 children visited the horses at St Teresa’s this week. They learnt about how the horses are looked after, were able to groom them and went for a wonderful walk in the sunshine through the fields.

This Week’s House Cup Winners Congratulations to Stokes House in the Lower Prep and Morton House in the Upper Prep for gaining the highest number of merits this week!

Surrey Champions

Sport Update

The Surrey Tennis Tournaments took place last week at St George's School. Harry C and Noah M represented Cranmore U10s and did brilliantly in winning the event. After finishing 2nd in their pool of 5 schools they proceeded into the knockout stages. The pair won the quarter-final 10-3 against Hoe Bridge, beat Feltonfleet 10-4 in the semi-final and were crowned champions against Harrodian 11-9. It was an outstanding effort from both boys. Well done!

Despite the recent poor weather, we have still had many cricket matches taking place. A highlight was a dominant display by our U11 year group against Downsend with 4 matches won by Cranmore. Whole year group fixtures have taken place against Rokeby at ages U8s to U11s, with additional matches for our U8s against Downsend.

Our Lady of Fatima

Thought for the week:

How will you spread peace?

Prayer for Peace

Our Lady of Fatima, Today we pray for your Son to come to our aid and end the suffering and wars throughout the world. Help us to be like the children at Fatima; loving, trusting and faithful. May we pray to bring peace to our own world in our own small way by choosing to love and trust in the Lord. Amen.

REFLECT

May 13th marks the anniversary of the first of six apparitions of the Virgin Mary to three shepherd children of Fátima, Portugal. Lucia dos Santos (aged 9) and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto (aged 8 and 6, respectively) were tending sheep in central Portugal in 1917 when they had a vision of a woman surrounded by light who identified herself as the Lady of the Rosary. She exhorted them to pray the rosary for world peace.

Let us Pray: Our Father

Hail Mary

1 minute silence

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team
Do not be afraid to take a chance on peace, to teach peace.”
