Message from the Headmaster
On Sunday morning, I had the pleasure of attending a family service at Ockham Church. The Cranmore community was there to support the Junior Chamber Choir who sang beautifully throughout. It was a lovely occasion as we celebrated Advent and some of the pupils and staff were treated to a tour of the church to see the tower clock and the chiming bells which were made in 1719.
Our Nativities in the Lower Prep were delightfully entertaining, and it was lovely to see so many families there to support the children. Thank you to all the pupils and teachers for their unwavering energy and dedication in preparation for the performances. The combination of angels, mince pies, and of course the donkey, certainly put everyone in a festive mood.
I am looking forward to seeing parents at the Carol Services next week. It is always a fitting celebration as term draws to an end and the festive holiday begins.

Year 5 Trip to see A Christmas Carol at the Rose Theatre
Pupils in Year 5 have been investigating how height is shown on a map and, to help with their understanding, made three dimensional hills to show colour shading, contour lines and spot heights.
On Monday afternoon, Year 5 watched a production of A Christmas Carol at the Rose Theatre. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the performance which brought this well-known story to life with exciting special effects.

Early Years Nativity
The EYFS and Year 1 gave a wonderful performance of ‘A Little Nativity’ on Thursday morning. We were so impressed at the confidence from Year 1 to deliver their lines so clearly, and the singing and acting from the EYFS really gave that extra special magic to the event and reminded everyone of the real meaning of Christmas. A huge thank you to everyone involved.
Year 2 and 3 Nativity
Years 2
and 3 gave us a fantastic rendition of their Nativity this year with ‘The Inn Crowd’. From the snoring donkey to the beautiful dancing angels, all the children performed with the utmost poise and professionalism. We were incredibly proud of them all and a big thank you to all the staff for their hard work behind the scenes.
Year 2 learn about the Chinese Language
On Friday, Year 2 had a very special visitor, Mrs Schooling. Mrs Schooling taught Year 2 about the different languages and dialects spoken in China. Then, she taught pupils how to say different Chinese greetings, numbers to ten, countries and ‘Merry Christmas’. Mrs Schooling also showed us the symbols used for different Chinese words; it was really interesting to see how words are built up using different symbols. The Schooling family have generously donated the book First Thousand Words in Chinese. The children in Year 2 are really looking forward to exploring the book and hopefully learning some more Chinese words.
This Week’s House Cup Winners
Congratulations to Bowen House in both the Lower Prep and the Upper Prep for gaining the highest number of merits this week!
謝謝 Xièxiè Mrs Schooling!

Music News
On Sunday the Junior Chamber Choir sang at All Saint’s Church in Ockham. They sung two songs beautifully and it was a wonderful event for all. Thank you to the choir who have worked so hard this term and have brought so much enthusiasm and quality. Also thank you to the parents for your endless support and ensuring your children arrive at school every week for the 8am rehearsals! Thank you to Mr Everitt for doing a reading in the service.
I am looking forward to more rehearsals in January.
Congratulations to Theo G in Year 5 who won the gold disc in the termly M-Tech project. M-Tech were blown away by the quality and really proud. Well done, Theo!
Christmas Recorder Concert
St. Theresa’s Prep School kindly hosted my Christmas Student Concert this year - a small but lively event attended by several families and grandparents. Freddie, Samuel and Henry Brackley took part along with Max Choudhry, Elizabeth Cope and Ollie Pearce. We all enjoyed singing carols accompanied by the Recorder Ensemble and the children all gave confident solo performances which included “Walking in the Air” from The Snowman. All very seasonal!

Sports Roundup
Year 3 had an exciting PE lesson this week playing 'The Floor is Lava.' Pupils had to combine the gymnastic and movement skills that they had recently been learning to complete the challenging course devised by Miss Moore.
Rugby matches have taken place against Feltonfleet, Hawthorns, Danes Hill, St Georges, Dunottar and Sevenoaks. Plus, there was a thrilling U14s match against St Johns.
Recently, three Senior Cranmore pupils represented the Surrey U13 squash team in the preliminary stages of the County Championship. George P (Year 7), Omar S (Year 8) and Sam B (Year 8) were selected from the Surrey Squash Squad to play in matches against both Kent and Sussex. Surrey won the matches convincingly and have now qualified for the March Finals which will take place in Nottingham.

Thought for the week:
How do you celebrate the mother figures in your life?
Immaculate Mother
Immaculate Mary, thy praises we sing, Thou reignst now in Heaven with Jesus our King. Ave, Ave, Ave Maria! Ave, Ave, Ave Maria! In Heaven the Blessed thy glory proclaim, On earth we thy children invoke thy fair name. Ave, Ave, Ave Maria! Ave, Ave, Ave Maria! We pray for our mother, the Church upon earth And bless, dearest Lady, the land of our birth. Ave, Ave, Ave Maria! Ave, Ave, Ave Maria!
REFLECTION
This week we celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The doctrine of the Immaculate Conception teaches us that Mary, the mother of Christ, was conceived without sin and her conception was thus immaculate. Mary's sinless conception is the reason why we speak of Mary as being ‘full of grace’.
Let us Pray: Our Father Hail Mary 1 minute silence
“The uncontaminated beauty of our Mother is incomparable. Let us entrust ourselves to her and say 'no' to sin and 'yes' to Grace once and for all.”
Pope Francis
In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
