Message from the Headmaster
Our focus this week was on remembrance and the nobility of those sacrificing themselves for others. Throughout the Prep and Senior schools there were some stirring assemblies with poetry from Brooke, Owen and McCrae reminding us of the human cost of war and the sacrifice that others have made to secure our freedom. We prayed for our peace, our armed forces and those in conflict. We appreciated that we may not be able to change the outcome of what may seem like distant wars, but within our own sphere of influence, each of us can show kindness and compassion towards others.
Huge congratulations to the CPA, and all the parents and staff, who contributed to the overwhelmingly successful Cranmore Fireworks last weekend. Thankfully, the weather was kind to us and ensured we were all relatively dry, if a bit muddy! It was a wonderful display and a delight to see such a strong community presence on the night.
I would like to thank all those who contributed to the fundraising of £1,071 for Action in Africa and for your support for the Romanian Shoebox Appeal. I know the generous gifts will be greatly appreciated by children at Christmas time.
Our Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award was launched on Wednesday evening with a presentation for Year 9 pupils and parents. We are proud to offer opportunities like this and the CCF activities for the enrichment of our pupils.
We had the wonderful news this week that the Cranmore U11s have made it through to the Surrey Cup Final after beating Micklefield School 5 4. Cranmore now have both the U11s and U13s in the Surrey Cup Final which is the first time in our school's history. Finally, the very best of luck to all the pupils taking part in the Henkes Shield tomorrow. This event against Rokeby started in 1983 and has always been a terrific end to the football season.
This week, Year 7 Drama have been exploring the role of the Greek Chorus.

Why does the delicious smell of cooking bacon permeate the whole house? How does Oxygen enter the blood from your lungs and how does your body absorb nutrients from the digestive system? It’s all down to Diffusion Year 7 pupils have been learning how particles spread out in gases and liquids, as a result of Brownian motion (random movement) and investigated factors affecting the rate of diffusion. Pupils enjoyed using M&Ms to demonstrate this process in their Chemistry lessons, watching the colour from the coating spreading out through water at different temperatures. The patterns were pretty cool too!
Dr Amanda Verny White, ChemistryAs our football season draws to a close, it is worth reflecting on what has been the most successful football season in the history of the school. Never before have we won 5 tournaments, played so many matches, had several unbeaten teams and of course, have both our U11s and U13s in the Surrey Cup Final. We still have the Henkes Shield to play tomorrow, an event which started in 1983 whereby 8 teams from Cranmore and Rokeby play against each other. Points are awarded for each individual match to then be tallied up to see which school is the overall winner. The Surrey Cup Finals take place next Friday and then, our U11s are attending the IAPS Nationals the following weekend having qualified last month.
A huge thank you and well done to our Head of Football, Mr Cox. His vision, work ethic and passion for the sport is incredible. The football programme that he has designed and leads, allows every teacher and coach to maximise the potential of all teams and individuals. Every pupil has had their talent developed by Mr Cox, both directly and via the rest of the department. The style of play and playing philosophy installed by Mr Cox, has been evident throughout the season and the 'Cranmore Style' of total football, has been showcased by all teams. It has also been great having ex Chelsea academy coach, Ben Mitchell as part of the team. His expertise and knowledge have certainly benefited every player. Thank you to all the sports teachers, academic teachers and coaches for their contribution towards this year's football programme.
