Message from the Headmaster

With many of the pupils sitting summer assessments next week, we reminded them of the importance of being calm, taking a balanced approach and just achieving their best. In assembly, we discussed that assessments are an opportunity to celebrate what we know, show the progress we have made and correct any misunderstandings to pave the way for further development.

Congratulations to our ski squad who attended the National Snowsports Championships last Friday and achieved excellent results in the U10, U11, and U12 categories. Equally impressive results were achieved at the IAPS Indoor Championships at U9, U11 and U14 level. Well done to the U11 swimmers who qualified for the ESSA Finals in Sheffield next month. There were further outstanding performances at the Surrey Athletics competition and on the Cranmore golf course.

We were treated to some exquisite musical performances throughout the week during the piano concerts held in the auditorium. Pupils played a range of pieces from classical and contemporary artists; it was inspiring to witness the talent on display and reassuring to know that the tradition of musical excellence at Cranmore continues.

Music News

My congratulations to all of the pupils who played so brilliantly in the two piano concerts this week. I am thrilled that so many of you clearly have a love for playing the piano. Keep working hard on your playing!

Congratulations to Bowen House who this week gained the highest number of merits.

Summer Assessments

This week pupils have been preparing for their summer assessments. Whilst not quite ‘end of year’ exams – we still have another half term! – these do represent an opportunity for pupils to display the progress that they have made over the course of the academic year. Pupils in Year 4 to 7 will take these assessments in the comfort of their form rooms, whilst pupils in Year 8&9 have the more formal setting of the Sports Hall, which provides a taste of the experience of external exams and is therefore an important part of the preparation process as pupils move towards the GSCE years.

Well done to all pupils for their diligent preparation and hard work throughout the year. We encourage all pupils to rest well and maintain a balanced approach next week. Parents of senior pupils might also like to attend the online session from Elevate, about managing stress and wellbeing, next Tuesday –details have been shared separately.

Sport Update

Our Rowing Performance Squad had another great session at Walton RC on Saturday afternoon. The various crews have been developing very well during both the water and land-based sessions. We have high hopes for the Senior Rowing Squad ahead of the Walton and Weybridge Regatta this Saturday. Good luck to all our rowers.

Year 7 Sports Scholar Daniel B competed at the Surrey Athletics last Saturday. Out of the four events he participated in, Daniel won 4 medals: 2 gold for the 800m and Javelin and 2 silver for shot put and discus. Furthermore, Daniel finished the 800m race with an incredible time of 2.18. Well done Daniel, we are super proud.

It was great to host our first golf match of the Summer on Monday evening. Feltonfleet proved worthy competition and there was some outstanding golf played. Thank you to our amazing facilities team for making sure the course looked fantastic.

Our ski squad have been very busy recently. A few pupils entered the National Snowsports Championships last Friday which produced some great results. Samuel B (Year 4) won the U10s, Elijah M (Year 6) came 3rd in the U11s, and Freddie B (Year 7) came 2nd in the U12s. Overall, the school won the Junior trophy. Following this success, Cranmore entered 3 age group teams into the IAPS Indoor Championships on Monday - U9s, U11s and U14s. The school produced some great runs with some very quick times, producing more great results. Rafferty CD (Year 4) came 1st in the Slalom with Samuel (Year 4) coming 2nd. Rocco H came 3rd in the U14s for both the Giant Slalom and Slalom. The most pleasing part was that overall, Cranmore finished: 1st in the U9s, Silver in the U11s and Gold in the U14s. A big congratulations for all involved.

Our U14 1st XI delivered a dominant display against Downsend on Tuesday with excellent batting performances from Jayden F (52) and Daniel D (49 not out). Lots of other cricket matches have taken place against schools including Danes Hill, KCJS, Northcote Lodge, RGS, Shrewsbury House, Homefield, and Aldro. Tennis matches have continued this week against Parkside and KCJS.

PE in Year 7 & 8 has rotated to Athletics this week. All pupils have had a chance to practice a 200m and shot put.

Play Your Way to Wimbledon

ESTA was delighted to host the annual Play Your Way To Wimbledon event on Friday 28th April. Our U14 boys and girls from both Cranmore and St Teresa's played some highly competitive singles matches with the eventual winners, Sam M and Lucia C, receiving their invitation through to the County Finals taking place in July. Well done to everyone who took part!

Thought for the week:

How will you spread the Word of Jesus?

Prayer for Ascension Day

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, right before your Ascension into heaven you told your apostles to be your witnesses to the ends of the earth upon receiving the Holy Spirit. May I be similarly inspired to spread your Gospel message in word and deed, according to your will for me. Amen

REFLECTION

Yesterday we gathered to celebrate the Ascension, the ascent of Jesus Christ into heaven on the 40th day after his Resurrection. The Ascension is the completion of the Easter mysteries of Jesus’ life, passion, death and resurrection, and it is the final step before the coming of the Holy Spir- it at Pentecost.

“The Feast of the Ascension tells us that Jesus, although He ascended to Heaven to dwell gloriously at the right hand of the Father, is still and is always among us: this is the source of our strength, our perseverance and our joy.”

Let us Pray: Our Father

Hail Mary

1 minute silence

In the Name of the Father and

of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
