Message from the Headmaster

We are incredibly excited about our Science and Technology Centre which will open for pupils next term. I would like to extend an invitation to parents to join me after drop off or before pick up on Monday 27th March. It will be an opportunity to tour the labs and classrooms and explore the new facility that will be a wonderful addition to the Senior school at Cranmore.

We had several heart-warming and entertaining assemblies across the school this week with a focus on healthy life choices, enjoying the company of others and appreciating the importance of our parents, particularly with Mother’s Day this weekend.

Good luck to all those Year 9 pupils taking part in the training weekend for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Peak Expeditions will be overseeing the preparation during which the students will be camping overnight on the Henderson Fields and navigating the local countryside.

Huge congratulations to our U13 Hockey players who won the 2023 UKSA tournament on Wednesday afternoon.

Renaissance Challenge

In this week’s Renaissance Challenge meeting, the selected participants from Year 7 discussed the main aspects of the project while enjoying hot chocolate and pastries!

SCIENCE Week

The science department held a joint CSI family event at St Teresa's, inviting Year 8 families from both St Teresa's and Cranmore. They had to solve the burglary of the Epsom Derby trophy taken from Dr McShane's office. Examining blood, fingerprints, fibres and fluid from the crime scene they had to find the culprit.

7SM Assembly

On Wednesday, 7SM presented their assembly focussed on some of the science and technology that was used in the construction of the new Science and Technology Centre. We learned about the role of the sciences in minimising the impact of the building on the local ecosystem, the importance of the properties of materials and the correct analysis of stresses and strains in the structure. We were also treated to some intriguing facts, for example 23,500 bricks were used for the walls, there is 5 miles of wiring in the building and, a sign of the times, there are 50% more internet access points than there are lights!

Police Talk

On Tuesday 14th March, The Year 8 and 9's participated in a knife crime presentation with PC Bennetts, a Youth

On Monday Tom L, a former Cranmore student, participated in the Godalming Festival. He played in the organ section and won both his classes!

He will be returning to visit us next term to run an organ masterclass for our talented pianists.

We look forward to seeing him.

Sports Update

Hockey matches have taken place against Feltonfleet, KCS Wimbledon, Kingswood House and Shrewsbury House. Our U13s competed in the UKSA Schools Tournament on Wednesday and our U13s A to D played against Thomas's Clapham on Thursday.

Winners!

Our U13A Hockey team were the winners of the 2023 UKSA tournament. 16 teams were split into 4 pools with Cranmore having one of the toughest. The team progressed into the knockout stages, winning the quarter-final in sudden death penalty shuffles. Cranmore won the semi-final and then beat Bedes School in the final with another dramatic sudden death penalty shootout. The players were incredible throughout the day, showing great resilience and support for each other. We are so proud with their effort and this special achievement. Well done boys!

Our U12s Rugby 7s team have been preparing for their Surrey 7s at Wimbledon College.

Cranmore had 11 pupils representing the school at the Biathlon Nationals in Birmingham. We had some great individual and team performances, and every pupil should be proud of the effort. Henry C (Year 6) finished 2nd and Arlo W (Year 4) finished 3rd in their respective age categories, whilst Henry C, Eoghan F and David L finished 2nd in the team event. Superb achievement!

We had a great swimming gala against ACS Cobham on Tuesday with no fewer than 56 Cranmore pupils participating. Our U8s were particularly strong against their opponents with all other teams competing well. Well done everyone.

Mr House, Head of Strength and Conditioning continues to have a huge impact across all year groups. This week, Year 6 have been enjoying FMS whilst attempting various obstacle courses in the Athletic Development Centre.

Mother’s Day

Thought for the week:

How will you give thanks for the women in your life?

A Prayer for Mother’s Day

Good and gentle God, we pray in gratitude for our mothers and for all the women who have joined with you in the wonder of bringing forth new life. You who became human through a woman, grant to all mothers the courage they need to face the uncertain future that life with children always brings. Give them the strength to live and to be loved in return, not perfectly, but humanly. Give them the faithful support of family and friends as they care for the physical and spiritual growth of their children. Give them joy and delight in their children to sustain them through the trials of motherhood. Most of all, give them the wisdom to turn to you for help when they need it most.

Amen.

REFLECTION

This Sunday, for those whose mothers and grandmothers are still alive - cherish them! Hug and kiss them. Honour them. Thank them. For those whose mothers have gone home to the Lord, remember them in your thoughts and prayers.

Let us Pray: Our Father

Hail Mary

1 minute silence

Let us affectionately remember our mothers … even those who are no longer with us down here, but who live in our hearts .”
