Message from the Headmaster

We have continued with exams in the Senior School, with the Year 11 GCSE mock examinations this week. I am very grateful to our community for continuing to support the rearrangements for access to the school site. Last week, the pupils in Years 9 and 10 demonstrated a diligent approach to their assessments and I would like to thank parents for the important role they play in supporting their children.

In assembly, I reminded the pupils that exams can bring a mixture of emotions excitement, anticipation, and sometimes anxiety. I highlighted that when results are shared, regardless of the outcome, it allows both pupils and staff to focus on planning for the future as the feedback provides valuable insights into strengths and areas for improvement.

Cranmore beat Wellington College to progress through to the next round of the English Hockey Boys Cup

On what was a perfect afternoon for hockey and following a great warm-up, Cranmore made a solid start. Yash S converted from a penalty corner to open the scoring. After some eventful passages of play, the first half ended 1-0 to Cranmore. However, just after half-time, Wellington College scored two quick goals. The rest of the match was end-to-end and with 5 minutes to go, Matthew K fired home from a penalty corner to level the game. Both teams had clear chances to win at the death but both keepers were playing superbly well. With the full-time score being 2 -2, penalty shuffles followed. Some tense 1-on-1 encounters took place with Cranmore goalkeeper Aran H doing his best in goal and the Cranmore boys relatively calm under the pressure. After both teams scored 4 shuffles each, the match went to sudden death. Wellington's first shuffle was saved by Aran H. Charlie R approached the goal with 8 seconds on the clock, took the ball wide and from the narrowest of angles, slotted the ball home to seal victory by the barest of margins. Cranmore won 5-4 on shuffles after sudden death. Well done to all involved!

Our three U14 football teams played against Downsend on Tuesday with Cranmore winning two of the three matches. On Thursday, our two U15 teams played against Emanuel School. Our U13A and U12A rugby teams played away against Thomas's Clapham. Both age groups are in action against Reeds tomorrow.

What a Way to End 2024!

Cranmore School was thrilled to host the Talented Athlete Academy Winter Camp, bringing together over 25 aspiring student-athletes (aged 11–16) for an action-packed week of growth, learning, and achievement.

Daily Schedule Highlights:

From the moment athletes arrived at 9 am, their day was carefully structured to maximise their development:

Morning Workshops: These sessions covered vital topics such as mental health, nutrition, time management, and the professional mindset needed to succeed in sports and life.

Physical Development Sessions: Dedicated to effective warm-ups, focused training, and correct cool-downs, helping athletes develop over athleticism.

Key Life Skills Gained:

Through tailored workshops, participants explored themes like teamwork, leadership, match day preparation, and professional mindset skills that extend far beyond the playing field.

Itinerary in Action:

09:15: Engaging educational workshops

10:15: High-energy physical development session that focused on needs analysis, strength, agility in sport, mobility & robustness, speed & change of direction, speed & power, endurance and coordination & reaction speed

12:15: A well-earned lunch break

13:00: A second high-energy physical development session

We were blown away by the enthusiasm, effort, and progress made by every athlete who attended. This camp showcased what is possible when talent meets opportunity, and we couldn’t be prouder to have hosted such a transformative experience.

Thank You:

To the athletes, families, and the incredible Talented Athlete Academy team thank you for making this camp a resounding success.

Looking Ahead:

We can’t wait to welcome Talented Athlete Academy back for February Half Term where more athletes in 2025 pursue their goals of elite athletics. Keep an eye out for their sign-up page via listing their website.

This Week

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

This week we focus on the Baptism of Jesus.

A reading from the Gospel of Matthew

Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptised by John. But John tried to deter him, saying,“I need to be baptised by you, and do you come to me?”

Jesus replied,“Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfil all righteousness.” Then John consented.

As soon as Jesus was baptised, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said,“This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

The story of Jesus reminds us that each of us has a divine vocation or calling. May the Lord reveal His calling to each of you.
