Message from the Headmaster

Congratulations to the Cranmore U11 team on their incredible victory at the National Football Finals on Sunday afternoon. I am thrilled that the boys showed their true potential throughout the competition and held their nerve on penalties for a deserved victory against Millfield to conclude the tournament. I am so proud of all the boys who took part and can now call themselves National Champions!

The CPA Quiz last Friday evening was a great success with plenty of fun, laughter and a little competition as teams vied to be champions for the evening. As always, I was very proud of the sportsmanship shown by all the adults and slightly relieved after the staff team won following the final tie-breaking question. Thank you to the CPA for their enormous effort in organising the event, which enabled our community to come together.

Well done to our Senior School pupils on their performance in the production of Oliver! I was extremely impressed by how their energy, effort and skill during the performances brought the story to life. For many of the cast it was their first Cranmore performance, and they displayed immense talent and dedication to crafting their performance skills.

Next week promises to be exciting with the Spring Soiree, Rosslyn Park Sevens, and a STEM trip to compete in the Faraday Challenge. There is much to look forward to before the end of term.

17 MARCH 2025

The cast and crew of Cranmore’s senior production of the musical Oliver! have been hard at work over the past few months and this culminated in two stunning performances this week.

A special mention should go to Oscar T and Morgan D for their stellar performances as Oliver, which captured the courage and innocence of the character, topped off with an astounding rendition of 'Where is Love?' that received a huge applause from those watching. All the pupils who were involved can be very proud of what they have achieved and the way they have represented the school this week.

9CM Assembly

‘National Let’s Laugh Day’ is a fun and light hearted reminder of the powerful benefits laughter brings to our well-being. During the 9CM form assembly on Wednesday 19th March, the pupils explored and discussed how laughter can boost our immune system, promote better sleep, and contribute to a more positive and supportive community. By laughing together, we not only feel happier but also strengthen our bodies and relationships.

Congratulations to Morton House for gaining the highest number of merits this week!

Science Week Assembly

Last week, 10MR presented the Science Week assembly on this year’s theme, Change and Adapt. The boys were thrilled and excited to showcase how human life has evolved over time - from early evolution to modern life, filled with new technologies. They highlighted advancements such as the invention of antibiotics, revolutions in the medical industry, touchscreens, electric cars, drones, AI assistants, species adaptation, high-speed trains, wildlife restoration, Mars rovers, telescopes, and new space technologies. The assembly reached an even more exciting ‘wow’ moment when the experiment for making Elephant Toothpaste shot up spectacularly, bursting with vibrant colours!

Sixth Form Offer Holders Day

Our Year 11 pupils had a fantastic evening at the Effingham Sixth Form Offer Holders’ event, taking part in engaging team-building activities and rounding off the night with a well-deserved pizza party. A brilliant opportunity to connect with future classmates and make new friendships!

Top 10 in the Squash National Finals

Our U16s squash squad, having qualified both locally and regionally, travelled to Birmingham to take part in the National Squash Finals. The three opposing schools were Kings Taunton (Somerset); William Farrs (Lincolnshire); and Altrincham School (Manchester). Sixteen schools had made the final day, and the five Cranmore players played some superb squash. Two wins and a loss, meant that Cranmore finished the day with a top 10 ranking. Well done to Year 11 pupils Jayden F, Aayan A, William B, Oliver W and Year 10 pupil Omar S.

Hockey fixtures have taken place against Kings College school, Danes Hill, Reeds, and Charterhouse. Our U13s rugby team played in the Feltonfleet 7s on Saturday and there was a swimming gala against ACS Cobham on Tuesday. Finally regarding our rowing programme, it has been great for our rowers who have been able to get on the Thames over the last few weeks.

National Champions!

On Sunday 16th March, the U11A Football team travelled to Millfield Prep for the U11 IAPS National Football Finals. The team qualified back in October, but the original finals date was postponed due to bad weather. After winning the group stage with three wins and a draw, Cranmore topped the group with 10 points and progressed into the quarter finals against Lambrook school. After a tense game, the score was poised at 0-0. There was no change after 4 minutes of golden goal, so the dreaded penalty shootout loomed. However, three fantastic penalties from Cranmore and one brilliant save saw Cranmore progress to the semi-final. A similar story here, where we played a local school, Parkside. After 18 minutes of no goals scored, it was back to penalties. Confidence was high and rightly so, as another 100% record from the spot and another fine save saw Cranmore progress into the National Final.

We were matched up against the hosts, Millfield Prep, a strong and physical team. The Cranmore boys played with grit and determination and although they dominated the game, still couldn't find that decisive goal. So, a third penalty shootout was required. Once again, three perfect penalties from Cranmore and a fine save, saw Cranmore win the match and they were crowned as U11 IAPS National Champions for the first time in the school's history! This was a huge achievement for the boys and for everyone involved.

I would like to pass on my heartfelt thanks to Mr Down for his time and effort in taking the team this season. The boys represented the school with distinction on the day, showing great sportsmanship throughout, shaking hands with our opponents before celebrating their success in all three of the knockout matches.

Well done, boys - you have made history!

Cox, Head of Football

A Message from our Chaplaincy Team

This Week

A Reading from the Gospel of John

None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.

“I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them. I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.

Reflection

Let us pause and remember that Lent is a period of sanctification, an old fashioned word that means to be put aside or made holy. This Lent and as we approach Easter, I encourage you all to reflect on your life and to ask yourself is there something you can give up or something you can take up that will help you become the best that you can be. Blessed Carlo Acutis, who is to be canonised this April, understood the pressures we all feel but he also recognised that only in Jesus can our hearts find the peace we so desperately seek.

Prayer

Let us pray

God our Father, we give thanks for the season of Lent.

Give us the honesty to recognise what we need to change in our lives.

Help us to make choices in our lives that make space for You.

And guide us to become the good person you created us to be.

We make our prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.

"Happiness is to look to God, sadness is to look to oneself". Blessed Carlo Acutis
