Message from the Headmaster

Earlier this week we had a busy couple of days, with over a hundred pupils sitting their 11+ assessment at Cranmore. The external hopefuls thoroughly enjoyed their interviews and visiting the school to get better acquainted with our impressive facilities.

The Year 9 pupils from Cranmore and St Teresa’s came together on Thursday afternoon for an informative discussion on consent, organised by the Head of PSHE from both schools. Students worked in groups and discussed scenarios to help them understand different perspectives and to give them the necessary tools as they get older.

We are looking forward to meeting pupils and their parents at the GCSE options evening on Monday 5th December. It will be an ideal opportunity to take a closer look at the curriculum and subject choices for the year ahead.

Pupils are preparing diligently for the end of term celebrations. Like you, I am really looking forward to the Nativity performances and Carol Services in the final two weeks of term.

21 NOVEMBER
Mr

It was a pleasure for the Senior Leadership Team to interview all the candidates seeking to join the Senior School in September 2023, in the last week. It was equally inspiring to see over 100 boys sit the assessment papers on Monday and Tuesday of this week. There is plenty of marking ahead, but also great potential waiting to be released!

Scholarship assessments also took place for Sport, Music, Drama and Art. Over 40 internal and external candidates were assessed on many of our core sports and experienced our PE Aptitude tests. The effort and talent on show was excellent. 7 children auditioned for a Cranmore Music Scholarship. Despite being only 11 years old, it was wonderful to hear some of those children playing at Grade 5 level and beyond; all the candidates performed several pieces and were also tested in sight-reading and aural. We were very impressed with the effort and preparation which candidates for the drama scholarships put into their auditions.

PSHE CONSENTTALK

On Thursday afternoon, the Year 9 from St Teresa’s joined Cranmore's Year 9 for a joint lesson on consent. They developed their knowledge following on from the Schools Consent Project workshops. They learnt about the law of consent and discussed key terminology. Working in groups, they gave advice to characters in real life scenarios.

Music News

It was a pleasure to listen to the piano pupils of Mrs Geddes in an afternoon concert. There was a range of ages and standards on show and I must congratulate all of the boys for their excellent performances. A big thank you to Mrs Geddes for organising and running this event.

My congratulations to young chorister, Dylan C Year 7 who sang ‘Close Every Door’ by Andrew Lloyd Webber, so beautifully in senior assembly. He was awarded a Distinction for his excellence.

We were pleased to hear that an ex Cranmore pupil, Thomas M, was playing at his local service for Remembrance Day. He played The Last Post and hymns on his bugle and trumpet.

Congratulations to the following pupils on their piano exam results: Artom E (8MH) Grade 3 piano with Pass Michael B (9CS) Grade 6 piano

Sports Roundup

We've had lots of rugby across all age groups against the following schools Ewell Castle, Feltonfleet, Hoe Bridge, Danes Hill and Cranleigh. Congratulations to our U14 As and Bs who won both their matches with dominant displays.

We had our first ever U8s to U14s swimming gala on Wednesday with over 50+ Cranmore swimmers competing. The Swim Squad were up against ACS Cobham who have a very prestigious and reputable swimming programme. The atmosphere was electric poolside with many spectators in attendance and I'm very pleased to say that Cranmore managed to secure a very convincing win.

Year 7 pupil Daniel B has been representing Surrey at cross country this season. Last weekend he ran at the national cross-country in the Midlands. Daniel did extremely well finishing 12th overall.

This week, we welcomed over 40+ pupils for our sports scholarship assessment. Both internal and external candidates were assessed in many of our core sports and experienced our PE Aptitude tests. The effort and talent on show was excellent.

Last Friday, Cranmore U11s won the Surrey Cup Final in a dominant display against Rokeby. The match hosted at Charterhouse was a great spectacle for the sport, with Cranmore playing some superb football. Cranmore scored in the first few minutes and went on to control the game. By half time it was 3 - 0 to Cranmore. From goalkeeper to outfield players, everyone contributed to an excellent display, with the final score being 5 1 to Cranmore. Well done all!

The Eco Council team, along with the assistance of the maintenance team, have begun the planting of 120 new trees on the school site. It will be of great support for improving the school’s biodiversity and leaves a long lasting legacy. We are grateful to the Woodland Trust who provided the saplings, all of which were delivered via the “Queen’s Green Canopy”, a legacy campaign started by the late Queen Elizabeth, and now continued by King Charles in her memory.

“I really enjoyed this, and we have cleared some more areas in places such as the Forest School so we can create a garden in an effort to decrease Cranmore's carbon footprint.” Tom Walker

“I enjoyed planting trees as it was a useful task for me to reflect. During the reflection I realised that we need to go bigger and use our powerful imaginations to find new ideas to solve our home climate, along with the adults in our lives.” Artom Elahi

“I was very pleased once we had planted the trees because those tiny little saplings will turn into reasonably big trees. When we’re older it will be amazing to say we were part of the eco council that planted these magnificent trees. In the end we planted silver birch, cherry and dogwood.” Billy Craigen

Good luck to our U11s football team who are competing in the National IAPS this Sunday and also to U13s who play in the Surrey Cup Final on Monday. Mr Hodgson, Director of Mrs Sanders Eco Council Update

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
