Message from the Headmaster
Our pupils have taken part in an array of exciting events this week. Our talented Saxophone Group and Wind Band performed at St Teresa’s. The cast, technical crews and musicians have rehearsed enthusiastically for our Senior production of We Will Rock You. I enjoyed last night’s performance and look forward to an encore this evening. Productions involve many people and require a huge amount of commitment; I am very grateful to Mrs Hanson and to the staff, pupils and parents.
The whole school celebrated Founder’s Day Mass in the Sports Hall this Thursday. Our musicians played wonderfully, and it was joyous to hear superb singing by our choirs in front of pupils, parents, staff and governors. I look forward to seeing the Crancampers on the Henderson Fields on Saturday and next week we will have an abundance of activities including Moving Up Day, Sports Days and Prize Giving.
I hope you have an enjoyable weekend.
Mr Everitt 26 JUNE 2023Senior pupils performed brilliantly in their production of Ben Elton’s We Will Rock You this week. Congratulations to all who worked so hard to make this show a success. It was lovely to collaborate once again with the girls at St Teresa’s for this production.
Year 7 Residential
Year 7 enjoyed a two-day visit to Calshot Activity Centre on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th June. Situated on a spot close to Southampton, Calshot offered the pupils a range of activities including rock climbing, kayaking, archery and track cycling. We were blessed by beautiful weather. When the boys were not busy participating in the different activities, they were able to enjoy being on the beach, chatting, relaxing, skimming stones, playing football and watching an array of vessels sail past.
Mr ChapmanMcLaren Talk
Pupils in Years 8 and 9 attended a STEM Talk last Friday by Mr Kenny Kong, the Reliability Engineer at McLaren Racing. The sessions covered a wide range of topics including automotive engineering, sales and marketing, design & technology, F1 racing, sustainability & eco-friendly systems and career opportunities with McLaren.
Mr Kong from McLaren came and visited us and we got to hold car parts from F1 cars including Lando Norris’ floor and Carlos Sainz’ crumpled exhaust! He explained what down force is and showed us lap times which vary from the 2021 to the 2023 car and how the wings create down force and drag. We also got to ask him questions about why an F1 car porpoises. It was a very interesting visit.
Toby H (Year 8) This Week’s House Cup Winners Congratulations to Morton House who were this week’s winners across the whole school!Sport Update
On Monday, three Senior pupils played in the HG Trophy at the Warwickshire Golf and Country Club. The whole day event, ran by the Independent Schools Golf Association, included the best age grade golfers in the country. Our boys performed exceptionally well, which bodes well for our golf programme going forward. Well done to Daniel D, Ollie McB and Oliver W.
Cranmore's rowing programme successfully competed at Egham regatta over the weekend. Those who took part showed great progression, successfully navigating the challenging course. The boys competed well in the junior quadruple and double sculls. They also had to commit time to learning how to load and unload the boats on the trailer, a task which they completed seamlessly. On the day, the boys contended with both the heat and a strong cross wind but performed very well throughout.
Well done to all the boys who have participated in the rowing programme this year. Additional congratulations to the competitive oarsmen this season all of whom should be proud of what they have achieved whilst representing the school.
Sport Update
Last week, we had eight senior sides playing cricket against our local friends, Downsend. Across the two afternoons, we had wins for the U14 1st XI, U13 1st XI, U13 2nd XI, U13 3rd XI and U13 4th XI. Well done to all. The U14 1st XI had a great match against King Edwards's Whitley which was decided by the last ball and the U14 2nd XI had a comprehensive win. On Saturday, both the U13 1st XI and the U13 2nd XI won against St Thomas's. Four cricket sides also played Feltonfleet on Wednesday.
Year 8 pupil, Carter S was selected to play for Anglo Saxons South Hockey team last weekend to compete at a national tournament in Nottingham. The representative side, which was made up of the best players in the SouthEast Region, played six matches across three days. The long weekend finished with the Saxons getting to the Final. Carter got a penalty flick for his team to go level, before getting an assist for the winning goal. To win this competition is a huge achievement as it involves the best teams in the UK. The triumph was after Carter's club side, which Ollie McB also plays for, won the Surrey East Regionals League. Well done to both boys.
