Message from the Headmaster
It has been an action-packed week at Cranmore with plays, theatre productions, music competitions and several educational visits. Over the course of the next two weeks we are holding our annual Young Musician competition and look forward to the final performances. Continuing with the musical theme, rehearsals are taking place for the Proms in the Paddock next Thursday; pupils are extremely excited about displaying their talent for parents and guests.
Year 7 and 8 pupils enjoyed an immersive languages afternoon this week, watching a live performance by visiting theatre company, Onatti. Year 7 also benefited from a live performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream this morning by the Guildford Shakespeare Company, which complemented their study of this text. In addition, three of our Year 7 pupils received awards in the national Poetry By Heart competition. Congratulations to Bertie, Clarence and Adrian.
Congratulations to Year 9 pupil Josh S who has been selected to represent the England U14s playing Ice Hockey this weekend in Slovakia. We wish you the best of luck, Josh.
5 JUNE 2023Onatti French Production for Years 7 and 8
Years 7 and 8 enjoyed an entertaining visit from Onatti who performed a sketch in English and French. The subject was a stay in a French hospital in which an English school pupil on a school skiing trip had to go to hospital with a suspected broken leg. Our pupils enjoyed the interactive nature of the session, which brought their French language learning to life.
‘I thought it was very inspiring, funny and entertaining. I enjoyed learning new words in French.’ Harry
P‘It was interesting and helped me understand French a bit better.’ Daniel

Sport Update
Swimming - Ranked Number 1 school in Surrey - IAPS Nationals - London Aquatic Centre
Cranmore qualified for the IAPS National Swimming Finals which took place at the iconic venue, The London Aquatic Centre in the Olympic Park. It was an amazing achievement to have 5 relay teams qualifying from U11 to U13, in 7 individual events with a total of 13 swimmers. Every relay team swam faster than their qualifying time, which is all one can ask for. The U13s relay team swam exceptionally well with a change of personnel and change of swimming strokes on the day.
The individual finalists who took part (Jack P 50m Freestyle, Ben M 50m Breaststroke, Freddie R 50m Breaststroke) all finished in the top 20. We had four finalists on the day. Charlie S swam 25m Freestyle and came 2nd winning a silver medal, an amazing achievement by Charlie – well done. Henry C came 5th in the 50m fly, Daniel B came in 7th in the 50m Backstroke, Jojo S came 4th in the 50m Freestyle, narrowly missing a medal.
Cranmore finished 10th in the country out of 91 schools, which ranks us as the number 1 swimming school in Surrey – an outstanding performance. We are incredibly proud of every one of them as they should be also. It was a phenomenal team effort and the support for each other throughout the event was evident.

U14s tie in cricket match with an unbeaten St John's
Our U14s played a T20 match against an unbeaten St John's side on Tuesday. In what turned out to be a great match, the result came down to the wire. St John's batted first securing a score of 140 for 6 from 20 overs. Cranmore in return, started very well with an opening partnership of over 90. Cranmore were 94-0. As the match came to its finale, Cranmore needed 4 runs to win from 4 balls. In the end, Cranmore finished with the score being 140 for 5 and the game resulting in a tie. Well done to all involved in what was a brilliant match.
The U14 2nd XI and 3rd XI were also in action against St John's with our U13s having four matches against Parkside and Cranleigh. The U14s also had a golf match on Monday and our U13s played tennis against Kingswood House in the middle of the week, winning 8-0.
