Message from the Headmaster

Our families have recently received a copy of our Cranmorian which gives a wonderful insight into the many events that took place throughout the previous academic year. This year will prove to be equally exciting with many opportunities for our pupils. Our dedicated CPA also have many events planned for our parents which started with the quiz last Friday evening. Everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed the event, not least the winning SLT team; I will say no more! We are looking forward to the ever popular annual fireworks which will take place on Saturday 5th November. In addition, there are plans for a spring ball and camping in the summer term. My sincere gratitude to all the volunteers who work incredibly hard to organise these events.

I was pleased to see that the U13 footballers were victorious in all of their school fixtures this week. Our U14 players participated in competitive matches which were a great opportunity for them to experience football at a higher level and build on their skills. The importance and benefits of teamwork were promoted in teambuilding sessions for Years 7 and 9 this week. Our CCF programme is underway with taster sessions for pupils in Year 8 and a presentation for our parents. Preparations for the rugby season have also begun with lunchtime development sessions for senior pupils.

The very best of luck to our skiers this week at the ESSKIA nationals in Norwich.

Celebrating National Poetry Day

Year 7 and 8 pupils have worked hard to write poems on the theme of the Environment for this year’s National Poetry Day. We were inundated with imaginative entries that included collages of rubbish and leaves, acrostic poems and some thoughtful reflections on the impact of climate change.

11 pupils received Distinctions for their Highly Commended compositions:

Year 8 Toby H Omar S Willoughby G

The 4 overall winners were Zack K, Toby H, Daniel B and Teddy M, who all wrote sensitive pieces packed full of memorable poetic imagery. Each boy will receive a book prize in Assembly. Well done to all who took part.

Sports Roundup

Our rowing programme has started exceptionally well under the new leadership of Mr House. Years 7, 8 and 9 have the opportunity to row on the Thames on the respective Games afternoons using Walton Rowing club. Land based training also takes place in Games lessons and after school training on Mondays. Physical and athletic testing has been taking place in our before school Scholarship and Performance session. The Athletic Development Centre has been put to good use, whilst our Head of Football uses the opportunity to discuss football tactics and strategies. The rugby pre season skill sessions started last week which take place on Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtime. We had some competitive U14 fixtures vs Downsend and some impressive performances against Kings House.

Sacraments

Thought for the week:

Will you accept the love and gifts of God given through the sacraments?

Sacraments

Lord Jesus Christ, when I am uncertain about what I should do, guide me along your path. You keep my path straight. When I do not know which way to turn, teach me your ways. Help me to be attentive to your voice as you guide me through life. Your word is a lamp for my feet. Shine the light of your love into my confusion. Bring clarity to my mind.

Through your mighty name.

Amen.

REFLECTION

Children in Year 3 are invited to approach their parish priest, if they are interested in preparing for their First Holy Communion this school year. Children in Year 9 are also invited to contact their parish priest regarding preparation for Confirmation. If you missed First Holy Communion or Confirmation preparations over recent years then you are also welcome to contact your parish. In the words of Pope Francis, “Making your First Communion shows that you want to be closer to Jesus every day, to grow in friendship with Him and to lead other people to share in the joy He wants us to feel.”

Let us Pray: Our Father Hail Mary 1 minute silence

The seven sacraments touch all stages and all important moments of Christian life.”

Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1210

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
