Cranmore Sport Scholarship Programme
Wellbeing and Performance
Variety with Excellence
A very warm welcome to Cranmore’s Sport Scholarship Programme.
Every scholar has the opportunity to excel whilst at Cranmore due to the experience and expertise within the Sports Department, the incredible facilities at the school, and the specialist coaching from our associated partners. The bespoke scholarship programme includes a weekly athletic development and skill acquisition session, a termly workshop covering essential athletic topics, plus one-on-one and family meetings to create a positive supportive environment for the scholar. Additional S&C sessions are available for pupils in Year 9 to Year 11.
Paul Hodgson Director of Sport
A major strength of the Cranmore programme is the prioritisation of mental health and wellbeing. The scholar’s individual mentor will be able to provide advice and support, allowing the individual to thrive whilst balancing education and other interests.
The scholar has access to a designated area on the Cranmore VLE which has many useful resources, including coaching videos, seminar and workshop information, guest speaker overviews and S&C exercises.
We wish all those who participate in this programme every success with your sporting future and we are certain that with our support, we can help you to fulfil your potential.

PCDEs (Psychological Characteristics of Developing Excellence) are factors that contribute to the ability to achieve increased performance. The pathway to excellence is usually complex, therefore the athlete must optimise every development opportunity. They must develop the resilience to adapt to setbacks and ultimately, maximise their potential.
The Scholarship Programme will ensure that the young performers have the best chance of being successful, by equipping them with the following character traits that enhance learning and development:
• Focus and Distraction Control
• Commitment
• Effective and Controllable Imagery
• Realistic Performance Evaluations
• Quality Practice
• Goal Setting
• Coping with Pressure
• Planning and Organisation
Athletic Development and Skill Acquisition
The weekly one hour session will enable the scholar to safely develop athletically and also master their sporting skills.
Physical literacy, fundamental movement skills and functional fitness will make up the athletic development part of the session. Increasing strength, power and speed will result from the specially designed S&C programme. Also, utilising disciplined movement patterns will prepare the scholar for resistance training in the future.
Skill acquisition will take place in the format of one-on-one and small group sessions. Technical improvement and skill development will make up this part of the session.
