Boarding has spent the last week celebrating International Women’s Day, in many varied ways such as writing quotes on the boarding notice to speaking about and drawing pictures of the women who inspire them.
The beautiful weather on Saturday meant that everyone in boarding enjoyed some time outside, whether it was visiting Kingston, walks, reading on the grass or simply relaxing and talking with friends.
PUBLIC SPEAKING HOUSE COMPETITION
Speakers from each House came together to discuss two thought-provoking topics: the best way to spend free time and the best age to be young. It was a fantastic chance to showcase our public speaking talent, and all the speakers did an excellent job of both convincing and entertaining the audience.
In the KS3 division, Sophie G and Rosie C from St. Tabitha House took first place, inspiring us to volunteer, look beyond ourselves, and make a positive impact on our communities a timely message as this year's school value is community!
In the KS4+ division, Claudia B and Malia G from St. Ignatius House claimed victory by highlighting the joys of being 6 years old: the innocence before school pressures and a steady income stream from the tooth fairy!
A big congratulations to all the speakers for their impressive presentations. We are already excited for next year’s event!
WORLD SCHOLARS CUP
St Teresa's hosted the World Scholars Cup London-Surrey regional round for the fifth year in a row. However, it was the first time that teams from all three schools within the Effingham Schools Trust participated!
Over 170 students and 20 teachers arrived early on Sunday morning ready to battle it out in either the junior or senior division in the four events of the competition. By the end of the first day, students in teams of three had completed the Team Debate, Collaborative writing and Scholars' Challenge events. Students returned on Sunday to compete in the Scholars' Bowl in the morning followed by the debate showcase in the afternoon which involved Malia G arguing for the negative team. Our girls also participated in the Scholars show, showcasing their talents in dance, singing and piano.
The closing ceremony saw the presentation of awards, Notable achievements included the team of Lottie B, Amelia B and Briony L finishing 2nd in the senior division and Ella J finishing as the 2nd champion scholar in the junior division. Most of our teams have qualified for the global round, and a trip is being planned to Ljubljana, Slovenia in July to participate!

COMPETITIONS
There is still time to enter the British Science Week Competitions currently running across the school!
Design a Zoo Enclosure! The theme for this year's science week is Adapt and Change. Can you design a zoo enclosure to reflect the natural behaviours of your favourite animal? Ideally the enclosure should reflect the wild environment that the animal comes from, which can be achieved by using furnishings, such as plants and rocks in the enclosure. You can also think about the ways in which your animal is adapted to its natural environment and how you can design a space for your animal to thrive. Entries should be on one side of A4 and be handed to Mr Stephens by 25th March 2025.
Science Short Story! This is your opportunity to turn your hand to writing a short story. Any science theme is fine, and your short story should be no more than 1000 words. Please email your short story to Mr Garlic by 25th March 2025.
Wildlife Photography! This is your opportunity to show off your photography skills. The theme is 'adapt and change'. Please submit your photographs to Miss Skilbeck by 25th March 2025.

Bible Reading
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.
A Reading from the Gospel of Matthew
Jesus said to his disciples, 'Be careful not to parade your good deeds before men to attract their notice; by doing this you will lose all reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give alms, do not have it trumpeted before you; this is what the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win men's admiration. I tell you solemnly, they have had their reward. But when you give alms, your left hand must not know what your right is doing; your almsgiving must be secret, and your Father who sees all that is done in secret will reward you.
Reflection
The season of Lent seems to go beyond our natural inclinations. To give things up, to go without. Yet Lent, this six week time of preparation is a time of renewal. A time to take stock of our lives. To think about giving up anything that is perhaps drawing us away from God and to take up things that can draw us closer to the one who created us. In our modern way of life , much can distract us from the divine that resides in us and who speaks to us. This Lent, take time to listen to the voice that reminds us we are loved, we are made in His Sacred image and we have a purpose.
Prayer
Lord,
In this holy season of Lent, may we turn back to you with all our hearts, in prayer, in fasting, and in giving alms to the poor; that our sins be forgiven and our hearts mended.
Amen "Pray, hope and don't worry. Anxiety doesn't help at all. Our Merciful Lord will listen to your prayer." ~ St Padre Pio
