MANUFACTURING Due Diligence Phase I and II Metal Component Manufacturing Facility, West Yorkshire

Project Summary

Due Diligence Phase I and II Metal Component Manufacturing Facility, West Yorkshire

Key Project Elements • Phase I ESA • Phase II SI • Liability and Cost Negotiation • Remediation Plans

CRA was retained to conduct a detailed Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) at a metal component manufacturing facility in West Yorkshire as part of a due diligence assessment. The Phase I ESA undertaken at the site revealed that historical releases of chlorinated solvents and petroleum hydrocarbons from former chemical storage areas and above ground storage tanks had potentially occurred. The aim of the site investigation was to identify any potential groundwater contamination in the shallow gravel aquifer and to assess the potential for this contamination to migrate to the adjacent canal. The site investigation included; • • •

Installation of ten groundwater monitoring wells, and soil and groundwater sampling at depths of up to 6 metres; Sample collection and on-site analysis; and Off-site sample analysis (contract laboratory) for petroleum hydrocarbons, VOCs, semi-VOCs and metals.

The investigation identified contamination of the shallow gravel aquifer with VOCs (particularly trichloroethene and petroleum hydrocarbons). CRA produced a detailed report outlining potential remediation costs to enable the client to assess future environmental liability costs in the negotiations for the acquisition of the site. Subsequent works included detailed natural attenuation and receptor studies, and development of remedial plans.
