Waste Hierarchy
CRA was commissioned by a food manufacturing company to develop and deliver a 1-day waste management training workshop. The objective of the workshop was to better equip company staff with an understanding of waste management principles and legislation, and to have the ability to classify and handle waste correctly. Furthermore, the workshop provided best practice guidance for compliance and described opportunities for waste minimisation. The delivery of the waste management training included a mixture of presentations and participative exercise, based on relevant company-specific manufacturing activities scenarios. The workshop was tailored to meet the needs of the company’s environmental and site waste managers, and included the following elements:
Introduction to waste management principles; Description of waste legislation in the UK; Compliance practices to meet legal requirements; Waste classification, controlled waste and management of hazardous waste; Monitoring performance and compliance controls; Adaptation of EMS tools for waste management ; and Identification of opportunities for improvement through the waste management hierarchy including waste minimisation and recycling.
