Project Value: £530k Key Project Elements Geotechnical Survey Environmental Investigation Topographic Survey Foundation Design Engineering Recommendations Environmental Risk Assessment Human Health Risk Assessment Remedial Design
CRA was commissioned to undertake a combined geotechnical and environmental investigation for proposed redevelopment and pipeline installation works at an operational Gas Terminal in the UK. The project comprised the drilling of 30 boreholes up to 35m deep, excavating 10 trial pits to 3.5m, installation of groundwater monitoring wells, collection of soil and groundwater samples, a topographical survey, and production of interpretive reports. The investigation was undertaken both within the operational Gas Terminal process areas and on adjacent land which included: clifftop, beach and agricultural land. The drilling locations required a high level of technical expertise and presented uniquehealth and safety risks. The geotechnical investigation was undertaken to determine soil properties on and off site, and to provide recommendations for engineering, design and construction works. CRA’s work included producing stratigraphic logs; in-situ geotechnical testing; collection of disturbed and undisturbed soil samples; rock coring and sampling; resistivity testing; groundwater sampling and analysis; seismic refraction testing; geotechnical classification and testing of soil and rock samples; and geotechnical reporting and engineering recommendations. The environmental investigation was undertaken to identify areas of contamination, determine the extent of contamination, determine the environmental and human health risk implications and recommend remedial measures.. Throughout the project CRA provided advice and support to the client with regards to regulatory liaison.
